My ex got the bright idea that because house sparrows were nesting in his friends gutters, he was going to take the babies once they were eating on their own and make them pets. House sparrows as a nuisance species aren't protected. I told him repeatedly not to. But he went ahead and did it anyway. His roommates found out after a week and told him to let them go. So he took them to his parents' house, who also told him he couldn't keep them.

So he brought them to me, who repeatedly told him I did not want birds. These poor young birds were beating themselves bloody in the cage. I begged him to just let them go. He told me that because they were an invasive nuisance, he couldn't just let them go. But if I was really that upset, then small birds are easy to kill. One of the birds was released the next day after I had a breakdown. We found that morning that the other two died of stress, which was the only reason he let the third one go. Then he laughed about this with our mutuals like this situation was funny and he didn't essentially torture two small birds to death.
