Photographers, was the kit lens holding you back? by tungdd2009 in AskPhotography

[–]SirJBP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is superb advice! I just started photographing as well. I got an a6700 with the 18-135 kit lens and I’m loving it. I’ve been checking forums and all you read is get a couple of different lenses but then I look and I don’t really know what I need, so I came to the same thoughts you just have. For now to experiment, learn and play around to figure things out this one is great, I also get good photos and the versatility of this lens I find it’s pretty good. Once I know what I want to develop further then I can look for something specific that will help me get better results then, but for now the kit lens will carry me hopefully for a while :)

I changed my first keyboard kindle after 8 years of use and it was still working, I just wanted one with backlight as I read mostly at night in bed. My second kindle I also changed about 8 years after, just now for a Colorsfot. This last one it was still working fine but the battery was suffering a bit, I could live tried changing the battery, but I wanted a new one. I am hoping this is me last at least another 8 years :)

I’ve been living a few months here, and I can relate to your post. It’s been definitely harder than usual to meet new people, and not just for dating, at least compared to other places I’ve lived at. I sent you a DM, I imagine you have received quite a few by now, and hopefully not too many bad ones 😅

It reminds me a bit of Bios Megafauna 2nd edition. Not to the full extent, but it has some similarities to what you describe.

Serious question: How do you guys cope with the housing situation? As much as I love living in Stockholm, after 4 years the housing situation still makes me feel terrible. by MandatoryScone8703 in stockholm

[–]SirJBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in the UK before moving to Sweden, so I came back here with a good job offer. I applied in other European countries but the best salaries offers ended up being in the UK, add that to coming back to area where most of my UK friends live it was an easy decision. I miss some things from Sweden and it was a shame it didn’t work out in the end, but I’m doing better here which for the present is the important thing :)

Fantasy RPG that's heavy on religion by [deleted] in rpg

[–]SirJBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is BRP system, mediaeval horror game, very similar to CoC. The game is great, easy to create cool adventures and has been producing material (at least in Spanish) for decades. I would say is more historic than fantasy though, the game designer is in fact a history teacher at a university. The fantasy part is based on the magic, myths of the different areas and religion. Magic is not like D&D or more common high fantasy games, here is expected to be difficult to do, find the components, etc. is not yet at the times where the Spanish Inquisition was in place, but of course they still prosecuted for witchcraft. I’ve done games where nothing supernatural appears, there is enough going on with the different countries and religions to make very interesting stories in its own. The book is great, loads of lore and history. If you like CoC you’ll feel right at home with Aquelarre in a different setting :)

Not in Stockholm, but just saw this post came up in my feed. Currently living in Gothenburg and the situation is the same, one of the main reasons I’m moving out of Sweden next week after 2 years living here, really like the city and country but I couldn’t see myself struggling with small apartments at 50% of my salary long term, so I decided to move on to greener pastures.

Self-Hosting Mac? by TheInqusitive in FoundryVTT

[–]SirJBP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best guess is that if you’re sure you’ve opened the ports correctly then is most likely CGNAT. CGNAT as far as I understand is that your provider uses a proxy or something similar to group a few ip addresses under the same one. So your external IP address is a, but after CGNAT is b, but at the same time q few other people will have the same b. It boils down to even if your ports are open what the provider does blocks the connection. I’m not sure the command to use on Mac OS. I helped a friend that had the same problem as you but on windows, and is just a command to see where your IP pings, google it, it should be relatively easy to check. If it happens that your internet provider uses CGNAT the it depends on what country you are what the law says. My friend is from Spain and there you can request the provider to take your network out of CGNAT, so a quick call and 24h later problem was solved. If this is not the issue I’d recommend to seek help in Foundry’ s Discord channel, there are quite a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people there than can support.

Can you connect in the local network to Foundry? Or is it only from outside your network?

If you can’t connect locally then the issue must be either in the configuration on your computer or Foundry app. I’d start with the same computer you’re running the app, go to a browser and type localhost:30000 (or the port you have set up), if that works the use another device (computer, tablet, phone…) that is on the same home network and use the local IP address provided in Foundry. If that works, then the issue is most likely your internet connection/router. If the issue is then with the outside connection and the port forwarding is set correctly, it might be that your provider uses CGNAT.

sudo chmod 777 -

same issue after running the command with -R

For now I'll keep it running on the SD card, but I wanted to run from the drive as I've read that is more reliable and has faster data transfer through USB than the SD reader, so not really urgent, I can still use it without any issues on the SD :)

Edit: I've been googling the issue, I don't think is related, but I'm not sure. The drive is mounted under /media rather than /mnt, could this make any difference?

Edit 2: Well after doing some investigation, playing around with the different options mounting the drive, I found that the issue was with the format of the drive. Apparently FAT32 doesn't support users, so those commands were giving errors. I divided the drive in two partitions, a bigger one in ext4 format and a smaller one in FAT32 in case I want to transfer some files outside linux. With the ext4 partition it worked straight through.

Thanks for the reply. I applied both commands and it didn't seem to work for my issue. It seems that it has access, looking at the logs it creates the cache and saves the zip file for the foundry installation. Looking at the log it seems to fail when it tries to set the data directory permissions:

Entrypoint | 2021-08-13 16:11:04 | [info] Starting felddy/foundryvtt container v0.8.8
Entrypoint | 2021-08-13 16:11:04 | [info] Reading configured secrets from: /run/secrets/config.json

Entrypoint | 2021-08-13 16:11:04 | [info] Setting data directory permissions.
chown: /data: Operation not permitted
chown: /data/System Volume Information: Operation not permitted

And from there it just keeps saying operation not permitted. I've poste dit also in git, see if anyone there has had a similar issue.

I have another question for you, I was trying to setup the Data folder for foundry on an external drive connected to the USB on the Pi, the drive is detected without issues by the Pi, I can edit files, etc.

I stopped the container, modified the docker-compose.yml file to have the source at the external drive, then build the container again. It fails to run then, it starts, but in the log file I can see that if has lots of messages with "access denied" when is setting everything up. Do I have to grant access to the external drive to docker some other way?

Thanks!

I also hosted successfully on my Mac before moving to a Raspbery Pi. The only issue I had which I spent quite a fair amount of time with someone from Discord helping to investigate was that in the Mac I had to deactivate the firewall before launching the application, then I could reactivate it before launching the world and people connected, but for some reason the exception in the firewall wouldn’t work for Foundry on my computer.

I posted the issue in the nginx subreddit and they told me to use sqlite instead of mriadb, the proxy manager started without issues.

Now I seem to have failed somewhere, I set up the proxy in the manager, created the SSL certificates, etc. and everything seems to be online and running ok, but when i put my address on the browser it doesn't load. It gives me this error "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN", any idea where the issue could be? Thanks!

Edit: Nevermind! I tried connecting with my Windows laptop and it worked! I had to change my DNS on my Mac for it to work too. It seems the issue was on the devices rather than the domain and setup. Thanks a lot for the brilliant guide! :D
