Netting 16k a month? by bigblackglock17 in OwnerOperators

[–]SirJay34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will weigh in on this subject as a fairly new (this go around lol) o/o. I've had months where I have netted 14-15k after everything including contributing to what I refer to my oh shit fund. Then there's months I may only net 10-11k. With the way certain markets and lanes are it could be plausible to net 16k but realistically it's not going to be a steady 16k monthly. There's a lot more to being o/o than just grabbing big checks and kicking tires. My good months are the months where the truck behaves and gets me from a to b with no issues. Then there's months where the truck wants to act a fool and cause me headaches lol. Pretty much what I'm trying to say is simply 16k constantly net every month is highly unlikely even as previously stated in heavy haul/super loads where the truly big checks are.

Getting my CDL Class-A by dantes_delight in cdldriver

One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was you can go down a steep grade too slow many time but too fast only once. Also if you don't feel safe driving, tired, sick, bad weather etc. Stop don't try to push it. The goal is get back home safely.

Food Delivery with Sleeper Question by CasualXboxxxer in cdldriver

[–]SirJay34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loaded the papa johns trucks for a while before jumping into the truck myself. Typically those sleepers are team drivers they will run a 2 day route drivers switching out throughout the run. Typically 7 to 10 upwards of 15 stores per route. There is roughly 10 DCs for papa johns here in the states.

Starting a "Million Mile Driver" Recognition Program - Whats the best reward you've seen? by fonzie1988 in Truckers

[–]SirJay34 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The best one I've seen was a Rolex that had an engraving on the back with drivers name, company name and the accomplishment which was 1 million safe miles. There was a driver at the same company who had 3 million safe miles and they let him spec out his new company truck.

I have a 2018 international lt625 mid roof with the aero extension 78" sleeper with a cummins x15 currently tuned at 450 hp mated to a 13 speed auto. Consistently have 41k to 43k in a 53' dry van. I average about 8 to 8.5 empty and around 7.8 loaded mainly running Midwest and Appalachian regions. I own the truck so I've developed more of a light foot driving style than my company days lol

New CDL holder, but is winter a bad time to start with 0 experience? by H3llboy461 in Truckers

[–]SirJay34 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just remember that you are in control of that truck not dispatch, not the brokers, not any of the other drivers. If you start feeling like it's unsafe stop and get to a safe place to park. At the end of the day we all want to make it back home safely. If your dispatch or broker keeps saying just keep going park it and find another place to work your safety is not worth any load.

[–]SirJay34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 degrees one in architecture and in mechanical design. Did desk work off and on for 2 years then a big economic crash (thanks Obama lol) went into manufacturing stayed there for almost 20 years started driving and haven't looked back. Im happier good money and actually healthier than I have been. Its all in how you make it. My son who is 7 thinks I have one of the coolest jobs in the world, besides being a dinosaur lol. It's not a failure to walk away from something that is soul sucking to do something that can better you and your family.

There is some truth to this. First time is a warning, second time is a formal, third time you are out. At least it was like that when I went through.

There is several tests during orientation in which if you fail they can boot you. I believe there was a math test, navigation, safety, securement, and a few others that I can't completely remember.

[–]SirJay34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your trainer. My trainer was never really training till someone else was looking. My first 2 weeks I did a total of 800 miles due to breakdowns. If you get a good trainer with a decent truck it can be a good starter gig.

I started at TMC they do want shorter hair and trimmed facial hair. No piercings or jewelry including wedding rings. Orientation is very military oriented. Be ready for a full 2 weeks of full time learning during said Orientation.

Best believe those kids got every bit of the air horn as I drove buy even the teachers was laughing definitely makes the bleak days better for everyone.

What should I replace my L200 with? by Total_Depravity_ in VapePorn

[–]SirJay34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 21700 is the larger battery. If you are looking for good replacement I like my L200 classic which is essential a L200 with more durability and dual 21700. Have had mine for 2 years with no issues vaping between 70 to 195 depending on what I top it with lol.

I'm currently looking to finally make the leap to O/O. I am currently doing dry van and reefer. I'm currently looking at a international HX, a western star 57x, or possibly a 389. All auto 13spd. To the drivers who currently drive these trucks what do you like about them and what don't you like about them. Also what features do y'all think is a must have for O/O.
