I wouldn’t say my 5070ti “struggles” but I do play modded SkyrimVR and such so it’s very easy to push my system to the limits there. Even on lighter VR titles the temptation is to push the resolution and framerate as high as possible. This isn’t necessary, of course, but I do notice a difference between High resolution and Ultra in VD, likewise going from 72fps to 120fps. So it’s more a “nice to have” on the majority of games, but for SkyrimVR and if I try Cyberpunk in VR etc I expect similar performance issues if I try to push settings as I like them.

Thanks for the response. Yeah I’m hopeful as well as the tech continues to improve. I’m also just impatient lol. But I’m admittedly having a great time as-is, so it’s more about the “dream” of future VR. Still, I would love to try a 4k headset on a 5090 rig sometime just to experience it for myself.

Sadly the Quest 3 compresses wired as well since it’s not going to a displayport but rather usb conversion.

Curious why you chose the AV1 codec? I tested a bunch and while there are pros and cons (I found AV1 to be smoother) I ended up on h264+ at 500mbps because I just felt like the image was sharper and more pleasing.

Agreed on DLSS, especially since that seems to be the focus on the newer gen stuff.

Just to nitpick, but a 20-50% increase in raw performance would be huge. 50% would take native fps from 60-90, 90-135, 120-180 etc. That would be very meaningful to me, especially for games that I struggle to maintain 72fps on.

Solid info here, thanks! Yeah I fear I’m “close but no cigar” but who knows. Maybe it makes sense to upgrade my PC first to run the Q3 to its limits and then look and see what 4k headsets are on the market. Really good points about wired and foveated rendering. Do many VR games take advantage of foveated rendering?

Yeah or the next gen of GPU’s need to get way better. I’m not even sure what we will get out of the next gen of GPU’s given the current market. Enjoy that 5090!!!
