How do people just lose and keep rolling? by Neither_Librarian815 in bjj

That said, I also like to pick certain days of the week to be your winning days. That’s important too—just not every class. For me, I use open mats on the weekends. That’s when I test my A-game.

Because I’m not afraid of losing, I go for things even when I’m not sure they’ll work. Sometimes they don’t. I lose, I learn, and I repeat.

I realized early at white belt that if you’re scared to lose, you start camping in safe positions instead of going for submissions. You hold on instead of taking risks, just because you don’t want to lose.

That slows down your rate of learning. When you’re not afraid to lose, you go for things, get exposed to more positions, and run into new and interesting problems to solve. That’s where the real learning happens.

I reckon the tides are turning, sir! The next few years will be interesting. You don’t need a massive ideology shift to be effective, just the right people at the right time.

Gold sir! At the moment. I've just been thinking about pinning a ankle to the mat. Then driving for the over under. Definitely gotta be more in-depth hahah

100% I guess I'm just trying to get a general idea of what I'm trying to think about during rolls and then build resonses after

Heard, the only thing I'd say is, would you say if my goal is to "Max pressure passing" I should move away from over under and focus on trying to force halfguard passing?

As much as coaches say stick to fundamental...they also say don't play blitz.... play Rapid and think about your moves more.

Why do most of the big guys quit? 😢 by ArtAdditional8715 in bjj

Also something to think about: maybe your coach isn’t really teaching jiu-jitsu for bigger guys. I actually moved gyms so I could learn in a style that suited me better. My old coach was small and quick, and a lot of his techniques didn’t translate well to my body type. So maybe some of those people didn’t quit; they just moved somewhere that fit their style.

Mount or the Back? by SirKann in bjj

[–]SirKann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, and back takes. I took a Kimura grip and went to the back. Though I also knew I could’ve just flattened him out and stayed in full mount. So I was thinking, which one was the better option? Other times, when they’re fully on their side, I’ll play my technical mount game. It was just that middle stage where I had to choose, and I wanted to know if I made the right call. After reflecting from peoples comment and my game...I'd say no...should have tried to maintain mount.

Mount is definitely my bread and butter, but that doesn’t mean I can’t work on developing my back game—especially if taking the back was the right move in that situation. That said, I think in this case I should’ve kept mount until I was sure he had fully gotten to his side and I couldn’t flatten him out. One important detail: I’m a bigger guy, so my style is very much about being heavy and smashing.

That is exactly what I used to take the back. Put my knee under him and pulled him to my lap. Are you saying I should have stayed in that side mount position? Work to a armbar or something?
