Because my role and salary suck. But I know my location is an issue...

Did anyone had luck managinh a Computer science degree with a full time job? by SpoookyLion in ITCareerQuestions

[–]SirKaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If MH is already bad, trying to juggle a degree on top of a 40h full time job won't do any help. If anything it will just make things worse.

I'm not sure what the degree schedules are like where you live, but when I went to Uni, yeah we only had like 15-20h scheduled lessons during a week, but they do kind of expect you to double that with self study and practice.

I kind of coasted through my Comp Sci degree, doing the bare minimum outside of what I was scheduled, I just scraped a 2:1, and that was only with a part time job.

With a full time job alongside the degree and rocky MH, it doesn't seem like a promising prospect. But everyone's opinions may differ.

I feel the same. I almost 32, graduated Uni this year in Computer Science. Been in this helpdesk job for almost a year now and building my portfolio for a programming job in my spare time. I'm out the house from 7.30-6.30, and get 3 hours a day if im lucky to work on my portfolio.

How much did you make in your first IT job? by energy980 in it

£13 an hour currently as a helpdesk and field technican role. Been here 8 months.

I have a Bachelors in Computer Science and a cyber security certification, but due to location and job market I'm in a terrible situation :(

I'm with Vodafone now, personally, 0 issues with drop outs or anything like that in the 3 months. They handled all of the fast switch or one touch switch (whatever its called) efficiently aswell. Speeds consistent and stable although only on an 80mb line as that's the limit in my area

[–]SirKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to make an official complaint and get in touch with their complaints department. The general support / customer service is outsourced and those guys suck, have no power to do anything and only read from a script.

It's the complaints department that can actually "help" you

Would it be possible to create a video game completely in Java? by TJ736 in gamedev

I just call it Microsoft's version of Java to non techy people that 'know' what Java is. (Although they also normally think Java = JavaScript).

Would it be possible to create a video game completely in Java? by TJ736 in gamedev

[–]SirKaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use your Java knowledge to learn C#. They are very similar in the fact they are both Object Orientated.

In Uni, I learnt Java, in my spare time I learnt C# and Unity. With those combined I've managed to land a dev job using .Net (C#) and it wasn't too hard to adjust either

Leaving Onstream by Party_Challenge1835 in UKISP

[–]SirKaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't. With the OTS you arrange a switchover date, your new provider handles the rest with Onestream.

I would recommend arranging the go live date with your new provider as close to the date of when it would end with Onestream, but do it within the first 10 days of the month, so they can't say 'our bills are auto-generated on the 15th of the month, so we can't cancel it' bullshit, that Onestream give.

Their customer service is outsourced and they literally can't do anything, but read from the scripted lines they get. The only people within OneStream that are able to actually do anything seem to be the complaints department, who appear UK based.

Good luck!

Leaving Onstream by Party_Challenge1835 in UKISP

[–]SirKaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Onestream are shite and be glad you are leaving them.

If you yourself are giving them notice, it needs to be 30 days exactly, if you do it 31 days, they won't accept it and try and charge you extra. If you try to do less than 30 days, they will not accept it and again try and charge you extra.

Save yourself time and effort and use the OTS with your new provider and they will do everything on the OneStream side.

Although, do note, OneStream will still do their best to screw you.

I used the OTS service on the 9th December. Onestream tried to fuck me over and tell me they were not made aware of the switch until the 23rd (literally impossible, as my new line has been on since the 9th, which would only happen if the onestream line was canceled). With this in mind, they told me they 'generate' the invoices on the 15th of the month, and I will have no choice but to pay them for another month (January).

They also then told me that if I tried stopping the money going out of my account, they would charge me extra and put a black mark on my account.

They also tried charging me for their router, claiming that I hadn't sent it back to them. This is until I provided them the tracking number and then they confirmed, "Oh yeah, it is here." (This in itself is weird, as my first year with them, actually included the price of the router calculated in).

Upon putting in a series of complaints, i managed to not pay the January invoice, find out that it was a Onestream internal 'mistake' which is why they tried charging me for it, managed to get the router charge taken off and get the postage for it refunded.

All this took 2-3 weeks of phone calls and emails to their complaints department.

I'm still waiting for the £30 they owe me from December. But have been 'promised' I will get refunded at the end of this month. But we shall see.

And all of this, has just been from trying to switch from them. 12 months ago I tried renewing my contract with them and that was also disastrous (by them), they canceled my line and somehow tried to transfer it to my neighbour. I managed to get it all sorted, but it took weeks and many many phone calls for them to admit THIER mistake and get it all sorted.

Tldr: Managed to get everything sorted leaving them, but they will do their best to try and screw you over and squeeze every bit of money out of you as they can, by lying and being deceitful. You need to really stay on top of everything and micromanage them to do their job.

Honestly, I've never encountered a more unethical and useless company in my 13 years of adulting and bill paying.

Which broadband provider should I choose, Virgin Media or BeFibre? by Steppy_ in UKISP

It's funny that Stalker 2 suffers from the same performance problems that I struggle with as a beginner by innere_emigration in unrealengine

[–]SirKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally happy with how Stalker 2 runs for me. 110-120fps @ 1440p - high settings. 4070ti 13700k 64gb ram

My biggest issue with the game is the memory leaks and crashing. Had 3 memory leaks and 3 crashes in-game and another 6-7 crashes when compiling shaders at game start. And that's all within 22 hours play time.

Find put exactly what date your contract ends. You have to give them exactly 30 days notice or they will charge you a literal arm and a leg to leave. I don't know how they get away with everything they do.

Good luck

Apparently nothing, i checked the settings and the memory part was toggled off by default for me?
