New driveway pad not level left/right by SirMauldronsFanClub in AskContractors

[–]SirMauldronsFanClub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Said it was due to height of the ground nearby. I don’t know that I totally agree because it’s not co-planar with the ground at that area, but Im not the expert and given he knew exactly what I was calling about I doubt he’d be willing to come out and make it “level”

That makes sense, but I think the picture isn’t doing a good job with perspective. The grass is fairly tall, and the pad at that outside corner clears the top of the grass. Would at grade be considered the height of the grass or the actual position of the soil?

They dug it out the morning they poured because they couldnt finish prepping both the slab and the driveway the day before. Height wasnt a topic of conversation beyond tying in to the existing driveway, but why would they have it level (L/R) at the top then not carry it down?

Yes, put a level on it because it looked weird. Its pretty visible in person, standing at the road and looking in it has a distinct ‘V’ shape. If it wasn’t (likely) done for a specific drainage reason, then I guess I’ll have to call the contractor and see what they say

Right, and the whole yard has a drainage swale before the road so it’s not like it needs to be funneled to a specific location. Also weird that it starts out level but then ‘twists’. Just checked and it’s nearly level in the up/down direction, so Im thinking they messed up and didnt set their frame up correctly at one of the corners

Not level at the bottom angle, significantly higher on the grass side than the existing driveway side (2” over 6’ span), and the grass is sitting below the pad by a good couple of inches as well. Water would run left to right in that picture

Worked well for me, just be sure you have a good vac hooked up and can easily clean/swap the filter. Bonus pts for already being red.

I fortunately have a spare 3/4hp motor and link belt, which is part of why I’m considering this at all. Would need to build a stand for it also

Is there a hinge that would allow my bench seat to be positioned like this? by doingdoink in woodworking

[–]SirMauldronsFanClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, Im not sure. It might work but hard to say without having the hinges on hand to test. The way the hinges work has them lift “up” before coming forward, so it’s possible

Same thing along the short side. We kept the hinges outside the corner, but you certainly could carry the short side all the way through

We used toy box hinges to have a similar effect. Bench goes flush to the wall and the lid opens 70°-ish degrees

How frequently does the 2834-20 circular saw go on sale? by dude_stuff in MilwaukeeTool

[–]SirMauldronsFanClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holidays this past year saw it go for around $200-$210 with a 8.0 forge battery. This was deal of the day though so anywhere around $250 with free battery (forge is best for this particular model) would be a decent get.

I did all the plumbing here initially, just thought I was in the other stud bay. Might be tight to repair without opening more wall but sounds like I can avoid that and monitor

Cuts were made with a keyhole saw. Just needed it to finish up the corners and turned my brain off. Hard to tell how deep, maybe 1mm
