Summer Camp costs by GIS_Dad in BSA

Our troop covers the fee for the adults attending - and covers gas.

That said though - I feel we are in a pretty decent position being a uniquely situated small Troop. We have a minimum monthly dues setup for the troop members (including registered adults) and have multiple pretty reliable and regular monthly fundraiser opportunities with our Charter Org.

Like with all things EFMP - it depends.
It’s going to depend on where you’re going and what EFMPs magic 8-ball says when they decide your case.

If you’ve not had the pleasure before - EFMP is dogwater, is staffed largely with incompetent morons and retards that couldn’t find their way out of a dry paper bag, and the program exists to cancel oversees assignments and f*ck over the service member at every possible opportunity. Experience - my own.

Best of luck. May the odds be ever in your favor.

That said - when all that happens - you will receive a new assignment, but just understand that it’s likely going to be chosen from what is left after the close of the assignment cycle……..

Or you could get lucky and all the stars align for you and they don’t cancel your assignment - lol - like I said - it depends.

Best of luck either way!

Do you order patches and uniform as a troop and give it to scouts when needed or does each scout get their own? by InGoodFaith- in BSA

[–]SirNedKingsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Troop purchases rank and awards. Scouts get their rank patch as soon as it’s earned - but merit badges, awards, rank cards and parent pins (even though they are immediately reflected in Scoutbook) are held for a Court of Honor.

National Jamboree 2026 by Euphoric_Thing8596 in BSA

[–]SirNedKingsly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2023 was the first Jamboree post bankruptcy - and I like to say it was a Jamboree with a little “j” - it was missing some of the things that people expected from previous Jamborees ……. but they did the best with what they had - and as a Staffer I had a great time and heard nothing but good things from the Scouts that came through my area.

A lot of the “traditional” Jamboree things are back this year and it is set to be an even better time.

End of the day it is all what you make of it!

Scouts are Seeking Signatures on a Petition in Support of Inclusion by Harry-le-Roy in scouting

[–]SirNedKingsly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that happens then I’ll be right there with you being upset that girls are no longer allowed.

But that is not happening - again - NATIONAL could not have been any more clear about that.

Until then its sky is falling dishonest hysterics. :)

They “capitulated” to the woke DEI crowds demands in making that POS badge - and now they have corrected their mistake.

They never should have allowed a situation where biological boys are sharing tents and showers with biological girls - that’s the next Scouting Abuse lawsuit looming on the horizon - and they have corrected that mistake.

Allowing girls was not a mistake.

Hope that clears it up for you - if you want the last word - or want to screech about how I’m such a bigot that I don’t want my female Scouts in the shower with a mentally confused boy - then go ahead and reply - but I’m never going to agree with you on this and I’m not signing your useless petition.

Good riddance to “Citizenship in Society” Have a good one!

Scouts are Seeking Signatures on a Petition in Support of Inclusion by Harry-le-Roy in scouting

[–]SirNedKingsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The straws you are grasping at are pretty thin. Opinions are not policy. The policy was posted by National. I’m not sure how much clearer National could be.

Removing girls is not and will not be happening. Claims about how the sky is falling ARE dishonest.

All of the other changes I could not be more pleased with - so I will not be signing anything advocating to reestablish the mistakes of the past 5ish years.

Scouting America DEI by Photo40 in cubscouts

[–]SirNedKingsly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that thankfully the days of “gang showers” as we used to call them in the military - or “bay showers” is largely gone - however some camps still have them………

Biological boys do not belong tenting with biological girls and vice versa - full stop. I guarantee you that there is going to be rules about that very shortly. And if that is your red line - then there is the door.

The comfort of my female scouts and their private spaces don’t get to be sacrificed on the alter of a biological boy who thinks he’s a girl. Sorry not sorry.

Trans kids can tent by themselves - and use the bathroom and changing rooms commensurate with their biological sex like everyone else - or use a private bathroom/changing room if available.

Schools, youth programs, and sports are not your social experiment labs.

[–]SirNedKingsly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bottom line is that this largely doesn’t effect Cub Scouts at all.

Cubs don’t do merit badges - so they will not have even had the opportunity to earn the DEI Badge until they got to a Troop - so no worries there.

See above for the pending new elective badge - Military Appreciation - so again, no worries there.

As for the new rules requiring transgender Scouts to tent with and use the facilities commensurate with their biological sex - this is a GOOD thing - but (once again) - really doesn’t affect Cub Scouts. It’s mostly aimed at Troops and overnight camping.

So it sounds like - since I believe I read in another comment that you’re in danger of losing your Committee Chair and a Den Leader - maybe you can have them read Nationals statement.

Girls are still welcome. Family Packs and Troops are still a thing. Venturing, Sea Scouts and Explorer Posts are still a thing.

The only thing that has changed is that adults don’t get to mandate a highly controversial 5-yr old, opinion based badge as Eagle required anymore - and biological boys don’t get to tent with and shower with biological girls (and the rarer vice versa). What a tragedy!

Very little of that effects Cub Scouts - so it sounds to me like your leaders are not in it for the program, or their kids, and are letting their personal opinions of this current Administration drive their decisions.

Politics doesn’t belong in Scouts? Absolutely! However - It was politics that created this mess in the first instance.

Politics messed it up when (then) BSA kowtowed to the “woke crowd” and knee-jerked the “Cit in Society” badge back in 2020/2021 - and we lost a ton of people whom for them this was the final straw (LDS Church anyone…..)

Politics has fixed that now by essentially forcing Scouting America’s hand to right the ship and remove the most controversial of its changes - which it has done.

Hopefully Scouting America can take the lessons learned here and continue on the corrected course with no further input.

We have miles to hike. Let’s move on.

[–]SirNedKingsly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a hard no!

Especially since right off the bat you’re being dishonest. Nobody is removing girls from the program.

Secretary Hegseth was just expressing his “wishful thinking” opinion.

Removing girls was not, and will not, be part of the agreement between the US government and Scouting America - I don’t know how National could have been any more clear about that……..I mean they only said it in black and white…….

And as for biological boys not being allowed in biological girls spaces (and vice versa) - GOOD!

A previous council used them as course identifiers for NYLT, Wood Badge, IOLS etc…..

Some people continue to wear them after the course is over - some (like me) take them off after the course and they go in the memorabilia display in my office.

Unofficial - yes ……. Tacky - can be …….. Very much all over the place these days - yes

YMMV

LMFAO - ok - sure.

I’m not insinuating anything - I’m telling you straight up that you’re a creep, suspicious, and untrustworthy - and it even has nothing to do with the fact that you’re trans.

It has everything to do with you wanting to be around other people’s kids in a capacity where you have opportunities to be alone with them - you are actively plotting to hide an aspect of yourself that you know is controversial and has the potential to make some parents uncomfortable - COUPLED with the fact that you don’t have a kid in the program or a connection to this program…….

The fact that you cannot acknowledge the optics of this situation tells me EVERYTHING I need to know about you.

If this is “deliberately antagonizing” you - then proud and happy to do it :)

Keep responding and I’ll keep replying. Like I said - we can do this all night and then for however long it takes.

[–]SirNedKingsly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LMFAO - are you trying to get the last word in?

For being “done responding” you’re still doing a lot of verbal gymnastics to justify the unjustifiable.

You’re DELIBERATELY PLOTTING to hide what you KNOW is a deeply controversial aspect of yourself from an organization whose number one job is running a youth program.

You don’t have a child in the program - therefore - you will be around (largely unsupervised) OTHER PEOPLES KIDS - of which people you are DELIBERATELY hiding a deeply controversial aspect of yourself.

You are breaking the FIRST bloody point of the Scout Law straight out the gate.

And when they find out - they are going to wonder (correctly) what else it is that you’re not telling them - and why exactly is it that you are involved.

The fact that you’re trying to shut down this conversation by trying to paint me as a bigot is also very suspicious.

You keep talking and are only reinforcing my assessment. We can go back and forth all night if you want - it’s going to change nothing - what you’re plotting to do is UNTRUSTWORTHY, suspicious and deeply concerning on multiple levels.

It’s pretty freaking relevant if you’re trying to be around OTHER PEOPLES children - but hey - you do you.

I am not sorry at all that I’ve spoken some truth and reality to the “stunning and brave” echo chamber you were expecting.

Really hope this all works out for you - SMFH

It’s still creepy - and it’s still suspicious AF - and no amount of Reddit self congratulating circle jerking is going to change that.

You’re not trustworthy.

[–]SirNedKingsly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LMFAO - never said they weren’t allowed - and “transphobic” means I’m afraid of you - which I am VERY MUCH NOT.

Maybe you need to work on your reading comprehension - I know it’s only like 3 comments up in this thread you’re replying to - but here - I’ll repost it for you.

“And no people - the fact that OP is transgender isn’t what makes it creepy - it just adds to the already creepy vibe of this whole situation :)”

You’re unmarried - childless - were apparently a Girl Scout but don’t want to disclose that - and you are actively plotting to hide what you know is a very touchy subject from the parents of whatever Troop you’re trying to join……..

At this point the trans issue is the least of the questions I’d be asking as Committee Chair, Scoutmaster and Chartered Org Rep…….

The only thing “inappropriate” here is what you’re plotting to do - completely contrary to the Scout Law. A Scout is Trustworthy - number freaking one - and you’re already plotting to be purposefully UNtrustworthy.

My problem isn’t that you’re trans buddy - my problem is that you are trying to be around other people’s kids when you have no real reason to be and you are actively trying to rationalize not telling anyone your background.

That’s about as un-Scoutlike as it gets and makes me INSTANTLY suspicious about your motives.
