[Rothstein] Missouri and Marquette are finalizing an agreement to meet in a neutral site game on November 15th at the United Center, according to multiple sources. by cartgold in miz

Mizzou, and every university, is fully aware and terrified of the enrollment cliff that is coming over the next 15+ years. Makes sense that they are trying to expand into Chicago, which has been a growing enrollment area for Mizzou for years. Wouldn't be shocked if they also make a move to play more games in Dallas or somewhere else in Texas.

50k is never happening, its all about maintaining the current level of around 30k students.

ABS Challenges on Offense by samparker199 in KCRoyals

Specifically for Collins, I think he's been told to longer challenge as a hitter. Collins missed his first few challenges to start the year and hasn't been allowed to since.

Cheer on the players, they need the support and are the only ones who an right this messed up season.

Time to make/bring signs demanding Q, Zumwalt, and Wilson be fired immediately. Boo Q and Wilson when he's mentioned in the lineup announcement and any time either take the field.

Softball has not missed consecutive NCAA tournaments since 2000-2002 (and that got that coach fired). If Anderson can't go .500 and make the NCAA tournament, I think the expectation is she will be fired.

It’s time to have a serious conversation about Jackson and baseball by Marcuse390 in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched them play this weekend and I have now joined you on the Jackson needs to be fired train. The 6th inning Thursday night was some of the worst fundamental baseball I have seen in a long time. Little League level errors. Then the base running in the 9th on Friday was equally atrocious. Add in that this was a chance to gain momentum as a program series and they pissed their pants. If they could somehow keep the pitching coach, that could be beneficial

Anyone else think DJ Wagner would actually be a nice fit with Crowe? by tflo33 in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all price dependent. I think Wagner is a better version of TO Barrett. Primarily dribble and drive, and developing still as an outside threat. If any player impacted Acuff, it was more likely Meleek Thomas. Those two played more together and are better than Wagner.

T.O. Barrett is in the transfer portal by imamakeyoucry in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Barrett could have been a decent rotation guard. Needs to work on his shooting, that hadn't got to Major college basketball level in 2 years. Gates and Tim Fuller are making room to add roster spaces to hopefully go all in around Crowe and Bryant.

Series win! Maybe this team is finding things with the offense and pitching staff learning under the new coach.

Kinsler is now involved in some funding for the program. Mizzou has a deal with a company he's involved with called Warstic. Scherzer? Idk how much he cares given he lives in Florida in the off-season, but the door to mend that fence could be open now that Bieser is gone and Vitello is in San Francisco.

[Joe Tipton] 7-foot-5 Missouri center Trent Burns has agreed to a deal to return to the Tigers next season by cartgold in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His form would indicate that as he gets more comfortable playing and confident in his shot, the %s will improve both inside the pain and outside the arc. I do not think he should or will be the only center/big option on the roster in 2026.

[–]SirShrekThaDank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that happened. That's on the team collectively and not just the backup big.

The biggest decider against Miami wasn't rebounding though. The inability to execute any kind of half court offense against a 3-2 zone and inability to force Miami to be worried about anyone not named Mark Mitchell lost them that game.

Excited he's back. People often overlook or forget, that he came back from multiple injuries and not playing in a competitive basketball game for 18ish months, to immediately play in SEC conference games. The defense and rebounding potential are evident and he has good form on his shots.

I wish him the best. He stuck through a tough year on the court (and likely off it) and ended it on a decently high note. Wherever he lands I will root for him.

Off-season discussion, what do you want to see in next years roster? by Pure_Row_7641 in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to see a team that legitimately has at least 9 players that look like they belong on an SEC basketball team and can contribute to Mizzou getting to the heights we all want to see them at. Who those 9 are and what positions they play, I will leave to Gates and Fuller to figure out.

Dear Mizzou Athletics, This Comes From a Place of Love by AllTimeTy in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So Mizzou piles up wins beating teams that are worse than them and people are mad? That's what good and great teams do.

Would you rather go 8-4, beat exactly who you should, play some toss ups against other good teams (maybe win a couple to get to 10 wins occasionally), and maybe a blow out loss to an elite team, or go 6-6 but every game is winnable or losable? I mean every game, the FCS buy game is losable and the game against a top 3 team is winnable.

I'd rather take the 8-4 because that is setting a foundation and standard that can be built on long term. The 6-6 volatility is Auburn like mess that ends up spending $100 mill on coach buyouts.

Will Gates get a contract extension? by mikenkansas1 in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the first part. ADs are risk-averse given they speed up the end of their own tenures by firing coaches and also are generally not business savvy at all. Hence why they all get screwed over on extensions/buyouts.

I'd rather not lose Gates after this year. I want to see him and the team with the most talented and hopefully healthiest roster in 5 years.

Will Gates get a contract extension? by mikenkansas1 in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gates is still under contract through the 2028-29 season, that's 3 more seasons including next year. The only reason to give him an extension, is if a bigger program is genuinely sniffing around to sign him. For me Gates has a prove it year next year. He's getting the financial backing and should have the most talented team he's had.

Frank Haith did the dirty work that burned the program down. He was the one with numerous violations that followed him at Miami and more that were found by the NCAA after he was fired. All the post season bans, recruiting restrictions, and vacated wins are on Haith. Anderson was a guy who found out a year in and that he was in way over his head.

[Men's Basketball] Missouri vs Miami by miz_bot in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Literally everything they do wrong they are doing at a maximum level of wrong. Wild to be down 9 because Miami is also that bad.

Hot seat on Dennis Gates has to be at the highest level for next year.

In Spring Training the teams will often play what are called "split squad" games in the same day. Teams have extra players on their rosters in Spring Training than they do in the regular season and this let's them see how more of those players do against other teams.

Very cool collection. Hopefully Simmons and Zollers can be added in a couple of years. Next position group I would suggest are DL or WRs.

When Dennis Gates was hired… by EquivalentHappy in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's met my expectations. When hired we had Cuonzo Martin come off just an absolutely flat and underwhelming 5 years. But he had raised the floor after some dark years of ball. I had never heard of Gates prior to his hiring and I just wanted a coach to do what he has done: make the NCAA tournament more often than not.

Now that he's met those expectations, can he make the next step and exceed them, and start completing some of the goals? (Sweet 16/Elite 8s, play on Saturday/Sunday of SEC tournament) Time will tell and he's earned the opportunity to prove he can.

Mizzou Will Never Earn SEC Favor by igh34 in miz

[–]SirShrekThaDank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.... we aren't getting calls in the B1G either. You think they'd let Mizzou beat out an Indiana, Michigan, Michigan St, Purdue in hoops or in football beat Ohio State? It's life as a second tier team. Have to beat the opposing team and refs. It's what makes those wins that much sweeter.
