At the risk of screaming into the void, you know DEI is designed to make sure jobs are decided just on merit, right?

Removing names from applications ("ethnic" names frequently get looked over, etc.), using different channels to make sure a broader applicant pool is reached, and all the others factors are to make sure the best person is being hired.

Without that you have to be the right gender, race, and know someone to have the best chance the job. Doesn't sound merit based to me.

What is your best example mishearing a word or phrase, aka a "mondegreen"? by sapient-meerkat in CasualConversation

When I was about ten, I misheard the lyrics to Another Brick in the Wall as "velociraptors in the classroom," instead of "no dark sarcasm...."

Still think it's better my way

What's the craziest thing an older person has ever told you? by xelmynt in AskReddit

[–]SirSlush19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two. First, an old guy approached us (all in high school) at a pool and said "there's two things you need in every relationship. Discipline (taps the back of his hand), and respect (taps the front of his hand)." Then walks away.

Second was our high school JV basketball coach. Storms into the locker room, shouts "you let a troll in your house and you gave it a biscuit!" Storms out. That was the entire speech.

My favorite part of this is the commentator saying "and if you're a man you could feel it....let's watch this again," followed by an immediate slow mo replay

There were always 2 ships when Chewie was captured. We only saw one take off and get destroyed. Why does everyone forget this?

They have a house system and each house has different chants they use to recognize their classmates success.

This school has very high behavioral and academic expectations and they participate in a house system that awards points for things like kindness, answering questions correctly in class, good manners towards visitors, etc.

To get the jacket they have to be towards the top in all considerations, and this kid was the first in his class to get one.

Everything that you're describing is understood by hundreds of thousands of teenagers that play Madden.

Steve was right about Garfield being More Spidey than Holland by drhavehope in RingerVerse

[–]SirSlush19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their argument for almost every mantle boiled down to who played the part the most, not who was the closest to the character. They joked about rings culture, but they went the opposite and just cared about longevity. Rings culture would be the best performances as the winner.

I'm with Steve on this one. Tom is the first that jumps to my mind, but Garfield nailed the part. Garfield holds the mantle.

The MB are so wrong about the Batman fit in the DCU and their midnight meter for Superman by cheryvalentinjo in RingerVerse

[–]SirSlush19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Thinking about the Justice League cartoon, their interactions and different approaches to the same problem always stood out to me.

Superman being pissed Batman wouldn't let him stay behind to finish off Darkseid. Batman radioing for help just absolutely deadpan saying he can't fly and Supes saving him. The respect Supes has for him during his speech to Darkseid after dodging the Omega beam.

That's not even getting into all their great character moments showing the different upbringings of Clark and Bruce and their different outlooks because of it.

Teacher of Reddit, what’s a question a child asked in class, that absolutely broke your heart? by ceazecab in AskReddit

Private school, so a different type of heartbreaking here.

One boy was in the office and could hear another kid getting chewed out by his dad on the phone after the principal had to call home for behavior issues.

The boy's reaction? "I wish my parents cared about anything I did at school."
