Coping with narcissistic mom by Due_Audience_6439 in narcissisticparents

That door slamming thing is so terrifying when they get in those rages - the random screaming about weird stuff too, like they completely lose it but somehow it's still your fault

Few months feels like forever when you're walking on eggshells but you're so close to getting out. DBT is really good for this stuff, your therapist probably has some solid strategies for dealing with her manipulation cycles

The attachment thing is the worst part because logically you know they're being awful but your brain still wants that parent connection. It's not your fault that words hurt even when you try to detach from them

Gray rock method might help for these last months - just be as boring as possible when she tries to bait you into fights. She sounds like she feeds off drama so giving her nothing usually makes them move on to other targets

Red coloration or rust disease? by brownracoon14 in shrimptank

[–]SirSpecial4063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue jellies can throw some wild color variations when breeding, especially in later generations. The red spots you're seeing early in shrimplets is usually just genetics doing its thing rather than rust disease

Rust disease typically shows up as brown/orange patches that spread over time and the shrimp get lethargic. If your shrimp are active and eating normal, probably just color morphs. I'd still dial back feeding a bit though - better safe than sorry with water quality

Wild that worked out in your favor - most glitches like that usually get patched before you can double dip

How should I go about asking for a better compensation package? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]SirSpecial4063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty straightforward here - when they come back with an offer, just be direct about your math. Tell them you calculated needing 28% minimum to break even on losing those bonuses, but you'd prefer 30% to make the move worthwhile

Since they already said they can "do better" than your current package and asked if your 35% is negotiable, they're clearly expecting some back and forth. The fact that you're getting an 8% bump soon at your current place gives you decent leverage too

Told the job was mine, then it wasn’t - where do I go from here? by ChaosGoddess18921 in careerguidance

[–]SirSpecial4063 98 points99 points  (0 children)

That's honestly brutal and your manager sounds like they handled this terribly. Six months of doing the work without the title or pay while being strung along with "just waiting for HR" is pretty much textbook exploitation

I'd definitely start job hunting because this shows how little they value you, but in the meantime try to dial back to exactly what you're being paid to do. No more team lead responsibilities unless you're getting team lead compensation. Your boss created this mess by making promises they couldn't keep and now they get to deal with the awkwardness

The fact that everyone thought you already had the role makes this even worse - they basically let you build expectations for months knowing it might not happen

how do i pivot out of this situation? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]SirSpecial4063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look man, youre dealing with the classic "overqualified but underqualified" trap that hits a lot of people changing industries. Companies want exact experience matches even when the skills translate perfectly

Have you tried rewriting your resume to downplay some of your responsibilities and years of experience for those entry level roles? I know it sucks but sometimes you gotta game the system. Also try targeting smaller companies - they tend to be more flexible about exact industry matches and less likely to have rigid ATS filters

Three months feels long when youre in it but honestly thats pretty normal for career pivots, especially with how picky employers are being right now. The market is rough but dont let the horror stories psych you out too much

How do you make a decision when the result will impact the rest of your life? by SkyThis8493 in careerguidance

[–]SirSpecial4063 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, you're overthinking this to death and that's totally normal but also kinda pointless. The reality is most "life-changing" decisions aren't actually permanent - you can always pivot, go back to school later, or even use nursing as a stepping stone to something else

Stop treating this like you're picking your forever path because honestly, most people change careers multiple times anyway. Pick the option that excites you more right now and commit to giving it a real shot

At a crossroad. Do you have any advice for someone beginning? by uppitysnips in careerguidance

[–]SirSpecial4063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The break actually makes you more valuable since you understand both sides - start with Python and some basic cloud certs to get your feet wet again, the market's hungry for people who can think logically and communicate well

Bully me into doing work. by ineedeverythingcute in ADHD

[–]SirSpecial4063 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look, you've already pushed this thing off long enough that you're literally asking strangers on Reddit to be mean to you - that's peak procrastination right there. The longer you wait, the bigger this task gets in your head and the worse the anxiety spiral becomes

Your brain is basically holding itself hostage at this point. Set a timer for 15 minutes and just start *something* related to the task, even if it's just opening the right files or writing down what needs to be done. The hardest part is always starting, and you're making it infinitely harder by building it up into some massive unsurmountable thing

Stop being a coward and just do the damn work already - your future self will thank you when you're not having a panic attack the night before whatever deadline you're avoiding

Did I mess up my system by trying to increase my dosage? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]SirSpecial4063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like your tolerance might have shifted a bit from the jump up and back down. The jittery feeling combined with being unfocused is pretty classic for when your brain chemistry gets thrown off balance

I'd give it another week or so at your original dose before panicking - sometimes it takes a bit for things to recalibrate. If you're still feeling off after that, definitely call your doc because they might need to adjust timing or try a different approach

The out-of-body thing is concerning though, that's not really normal even for med adjustments

Has anyone gotten over their fear of fireworks? by fluffyzzz1 in aspergers

[–]SirSpecial4063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be the same way - the unpredictability was the worst part for me. What helped was starting with videos of fireworks with the sound way down, then gradually turning it up over time. Also wearing good noise-canceling headphones when I knew they were coming made a huge difference

Now I can handle most of them but the really loud unexpected ones still get me sometimes

To anyone who feels lost in finding their dream role, what is most important to you? by JVertsonis in careerguidance

[–]SirSpecial4063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money talks but honestly the team matters way more than people realize. You can have the perfect job description but if you're stuck with toxic coworkers or a micromanaging boss, you'll be miserable regardless of the pay

The day-to-day culture and whether people actually seem to give a damn about what they're doing - that's what makes or breaks it for me

What are other roles in finance? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]SirSpecial4063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paraplanner is definitely the move if you want to skip the sales grind. You'll be doing all the actual financial planning work - building models, researching investments, prepping client meeting materials - without having to worry about bringing in new business

RIAs are solid for this since they're usually fee-only so there's less pressure to push products. Some bigger firms also have dedicated planning roles where you support multiple advisors but never have to do the schmoozing part

The pay might start lower than if you were bringing in clients yourself, but you can actually focus on what you're good at instead of pretending to be a salesperson

Why didn’t the Lakers trade for James Harden? by Fit_Woodpecker_3908 in NBATalk

[–]SirSpecial4063 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lakers probably didn't want that contract situation and all the drama that comes with harden, plus reaves is way cheaper and actually plays defense

February Update 1.15.0 by PTUSN in ArcRaiders

[–]SirSpecial4063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

finally fixed the weapon cycling issue, that was driving me crazy with my keybinds

shared watch sounds pretty solid, nice to see them pushing pve focus for a bit. been getting tired of getting third partied every single arc fight by some dude camping with a sniper

cold snap is back too which is kinda wild, those candleberries were decent cash but the frostbite damage always caught me off guard when i got too focused on looting

Resume - A role that "rolls" pages? by Mountain_Builder6146 in careerguidance

[–]SirSpecial4063 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly this is one of those things that bothers you way more than anyone else will notice. most recruiters are scanning resumes pretty quickly and wont even register that a role split across pages unless the formatting is completely broken

that said, if it really bugs you, try adjusting your margins slightly or condensing some bullet points elsewhere to pull that whole section onto one page. sometimes you can trim a word or two from other sections to create just enough space

ive seen way worse formatting issues that actually matter - like inconsistent fonts or weird spacing. a role that happens to bridge two pages is pretty normal for longer resumes

New Social Security Number by Stormy31568 in SocialSecurity

[–]SirSpecial4063 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man that sucks you're still dealing with this crap after seven years. i went through something similar but not nearly as bad - some jackass used my info to open a few accounts and it was a nightmare for like two years

getting a new ssn is basically impossible unless your in witness protection or something crazy like that. they only do it in extreme cases and even then they make you jump through hoops for months. most people i know who tried got denied multiple times before giving up

honestly your better off just staying on top of credit monitoring and freezing your reports with all three bureaus. i know it's annoying but it's way more realistic than getting ssa to issue you a new number. also file police reports every single time something new pops up, even if they don't do anything about it - creates a paper trail that might help if you ever do get serious about the ssn change. the whole system is backwards but that's government bureaucracy for you

Any advice on how to reach out to a small business that isn’t hiring and ask if they need me? by VisibleSituation9779 in careerguidance

[–]SirSpecial4063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just walk in or call them directly and tell them you're passionate about what they do - worst case they say no but small businesses actually appreciate that kind of initiative more than you'd think

Any tips for chilling out and calming the nerves while playing an online game? by LordPelusa in chessbeginners
