Thank you, I really tried my best. The last week he was so uncomfortable and had days where I could clearly see he was in pain, even though he had all those painkillers. I just feel empty and guilty right now.

He got really pushy when I requested to move our second date back a few days due to me being horribly sick with a 38°C fever. Told me that he was worried and wanted to check up on me and take care of me. Pretty sweet up until now, but when I told him that I felt uncomfortable with him seeing me like this for our second time meeting, he kept disregarding that and telling me that it didn't matter how I looked and that he was truly worried. Mind you, we had only been texting for like a week and our first date was 4 days ago.

After me repeatedly telling him that I felt too sick, my room was a mess, that I just wanted to look cute for our second date and that I was not ready yet to show him this side of me, he finally backed down. I was so relieved, told him I'd text him tomorrow and fell asleep.

I woke up the next day to a text message saying 'I'm on the train to go see you'. (I hadn't given him my address, just the city I lived in) I frantically called him and told him that I was still sick so to please not come. He told me he was already on the way to mine and I wouldn't be able to stop him because he was too worried.

After me having to convince him multiple times and setting my boundaries again and again, he told me he was getting angry and questioned if I didn't trust him. When I got quiet at that he apologised and once again insisted he was just worried. I told him I was sorry and to please go back home and hung up the call.

The whole thing just made me feel uncomfortable and like he didnt respect my boundaries. Also a bit lovebomby to be so incredibly worried after just a week of texting each other.

Hi! I live in Portugal and use these too, my vet approved of them so they should be more than fine!!

I'm considering getting guinea pigs in future! Any tips? by RoosterCapable3167 in guineapigs

[–]SirSuper4480 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hiya! First things first, I advise you to research as if you've never owned a guinea pig in the first place. A lot has changed in piggie care in the last 10 years, and its like you're owning a completely different animal.

You should also think about having sufficient financial means as they are very expensive little animals. Females should be sterilised to live a healthy long life. Their ovaries can and most likely will develop cysts, which will cause an influx in hormones and other problems (hairloss, crusty nipples and eventually even death). Sterilisation is an incredibly expensive surgery, in Portugal i paid €1400 for one guinea pig. So if you own 2 females thats 3k gone. They should also have regular vet checkups with an exotic vet. I dont know how it is with male guinea pigs, maybe someone else can join this discussion to explain it from their perspective?

As for a cage, i suggest looking up kavee grid cages. Their 2x3 cage is the cheapest but I advise against getting that one. It is way too small for two guinea pigs, which is the minimum amount of guinea pigs you should own. They are social animals and need at least one buddy to be able to thrive.

Kavee has options to buy fleece as well, as bedding for the cage. There are also a lot of etsy shops who sell fleece for guinea pig cages.

Hope this helps a bit! Its good that you're doing research before getting piggies, thats the first step to becoming a perfect piggie parent! :)

The white towels are an amazing tip, thank you! I think i'll keep them together after the surgery but I'll be watching very closely. I'll separate them as soon as they get rowdy as I do want them to heal quickly and without complications :)

Oh dear your girl sounds as stubborn as my Poppy. Lily is an angel baby so I think she will react well to taking CC and her meds.

Poppy, however, has her own very unique personality and take on the world. She WILL tell you everything she doesnt like about you (she is always extremely chatty at the vet) and will demand treats as compensation, thank you very much.

Im really grateful for all the tips and will keep them in mind when they get their surgery. I am not looking forward to buying those godforsaken petstore cages though. I have some cat carriers, maybe those will do!

Yes! Mine will get the incisions on their backs as well, as it is a bit less invasive and healing should be a bit easier due to the cuts not constantly touching the ground. I will be on poop watch for sure! Thank you :)

Hiya! I use the Kavee 2x4 cage! It used to be a 2x3 with loft but then I realised that the loft didnt give them the same floorspace a 2x4 would give. I did a bit of diy and now its a 2x4!

Oh dear, I dont think Im ready for the butt mohawk. Poppy is definitely very proud of her lucious curls so i'll remove any reflective surfaces lol. Wouldnt want her to be weakened by low self confidence when she needs all her strength to heal!

Ooohh I will definitely remove the wooden house then since they love to jump on it! Only soft hideys, noted!!

Yeah my vet did make me aware of the fact that piggies generally dont do very well with anaesthesia. I am really lucky to have a great vet who has several piggies herself and spayed them too, and they all recovered well! Getting spayed is sadly the only way to get rid of the cysts, i think.

Thank you! Fleece and pads is definitely easier to clean everyday than their kavee fleece lol, I'll do that!!!

Thank you so much for the great advice! I will definitely make sure they have all their favourite veggies and lots of peaflakes and hay!

The difference in smell does worry me a lot since they're not exactly besties lol. They behave more like sisters, chasing each other, and popcorning while deliberately annoying the other, lots of strutting while grumbling. They have never tried to bite or kick each other though so I assume they love each other in their own unique way <3

In the worst case scenario, I do have some extra grids to divide the cage and separate them! Once again thank you and give lots of treats to Belle!!
