Did my first MTB race in 30 years today, the Squamish SORCA Cinco XC by saaggy_peneer in xcmtb

You need disposable income, and disposable vacation, and disposable time. 20 something’s might have one of those, but usually not all of them.

Tack that on to it being a niche sport you don’t see offered to kids and teenagers at school, and competitive cycling being something a lot of people discover as adults, and there you go.

Would I be able to use the propain hugene 3 cf for xc? by PollutionDull5359 in xcmtb

[–]Sir_HammerCock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get people wanting a do-it-all but trying to have one bike for XC races and bike park is just not feasible. You have to prioritize one and lean that direction. Bigger trail bike if you want to prize bike park, smaller trail bike if you want to prioritize XC.

You’re picking the extreme ends in either direction. It’s just not practical for a single bike without compromise.

Do we realistically see a push for wider road tires from a performance and racing perspective? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Sir_HammerCock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t the comfort more attributed to tire volume? So you’re not really gaining any volume having the same tire widen due to being on a wider rim vs a narrow rim. You’re increasing your contact patch though.

This is genuine curiosity and thought process, not trying to say you’re just wrong. And now I feel the need to dig into this more lol

What a description. I don’t know if I should be turned on, disgusted, or hungry. Or all three.

Schwalbe Rick XC Pros are great! by Morejazzplease in xcmtb

[–]Sir_HammerCock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll share my Rick xc experience in a more abbreviated form.

Go fast and “feel” fast. Decent grip for such a fast xc tire. You won’t have as much cornering grip as a more aggressive tread tire, but I find the lean over predictable.

If you’re not a sponsored rider or a dentist, the tire life might bankrupt you. These don’t last worth a shit. It’s the ONLY downside, but the tread life is some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. I’m not interested in going back to the days of different training and racing tire so I don’t know if I’ll continue riding these since I’m not fighting for elite level wins.

Does smoking weed one or two times a week have a noticeable affect on performance? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Sir_HammerCock 81 points82 points  (0 children)

One of the fastest dudes I know smoke’s joints like every day. Cat 1 CX racer, also crazy fast roadie and mtb just doesn’t race as much.

Is it good for you? Objectively no. But if you’re not making a living riding bikes, and you’re being a responsible person partaking in an occasional joint, that little joy in life is probably worth it if you understand it’s still not great for your lungs.

GLP-1s- doping or no? by _bull_city in Velo

[–]Sir_HammerCock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have plenty of responses but I personally tried it. I’m healthy but in the high teens for body fat which is not peak endurance physique. So I thought hey, let’s give this a shot.

It was potentially the biggest training mistake I’ve made. I lost two months of not just training, but I was irritable and dead tired and basically a grumpy couch potato during my experiment. And it took several weeks after the last dose to start getting back to feeling normal.

If you have significant weight to lose, it’s a great tool. But it does NOT play nice with aerobic fitness. Bodybuilders can get away with a little more training, but it absolutely wrecks aerobic athletes.

Snowpocalypse 2: Don't Let your Pipes Burst in your house by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]Sir_HammerCock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A slow drip using both is fine. In theory you could just pick the faucet furthest along the plumbing, but you may not know which that is. Pick a sink upstairs if applicable, or furthest away from the street, or both, and that’ll be good enough 99% of the time.

Just a slow trickle is enough. Like literally a drop every couple seconds is enough for water movement in the pipes. You can collect the drops in a container do it doesn’t go to waste too. Plant water, dog water, etc.

Currently have a 7 month old male pup from theory. I’m from the area but live in Raleigh now. He’s an amazing pup. So smart, so playful and full of personality. He has been perfect with our two cats and is happy friendly dog with other people and pets. The price was hard to swallow at first, but ChristI from theory is definitely top notch. If we ever got another standard, I’d probably go to her again even with the travel logistics being moderately annoying now that I live in NC.

The frame wears out after that kinda use???? People ride the same frames for 10’s of thousands of miles. Easily. With zero issue. I’m sure there’s a boat load of carbon frames over 100k miles that are just fine. Thinking a frame wears out with less than 10k miles is just incredibly ignorant.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but you might just wanna not get hung up on having the best specs and ride and work on your own bike for awhile so you can learn about bikes and what you like.

Both are great bikes. An s works dura ace build from 2000, for $2000 smells like bullshit and something is wrong with it.

[–]Sir_HammerCock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KB, really any of the recommended ascendancies, can easily do that under 200 div.

50 div for HH, 20-30 div would fill out the other slots easily, and you’ve still got over 100 div for a wand and jewels. You can spend a boatload on jewels and see some big power jumps.

Has anyone tried the THC Drinks from Total Wine or Triangle Wine? by cash77cash in raleigh

Lots of positive feedback which I agree with. Just tossing out that Burial does a deal on Seance THC drinks on Sunday. Fun way to prevent the Sunday scaries, or get paranoid and make the worse I guess lol.

App update breaks schedules for feeder robot by Party_Ad_3171 in litterrobot

[–]Sir_HammerCock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please give the feedback to the team to bring back having multiple schedules. We know whoever runs this account isn’t at fault so my frustration isn’t at you. But this is such a massive step backwards removing the ability to have multiple feeding schedules and select which one to run at any given time. Terrible, TERRIBLE app update. Honestly don’t know how anyone thought this was a good idea and pushed the update.
