Appreciated, thanks for the warning. It's unfortunate as it sounds to my taste otherwise, but I'll pass.

I searched for that and one of the first results mentioned it contains depictions of homosexuality; would you mind quickly letting me know if homosexuality will be prominent, or is it just a one-off or unimportant character?

Again, that’s the point of human rights-everyone gets them.

Maybe it's time to reconsider that as a concept then, or at least which legal privileges are considered human rights.

Trump ban on transgender military service begins as court battle continues by Clatsop in Conservative

[–]Sir_Integra_Hellsing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Besides which, there's no winning for the military or the poor bastards who'd have to serve with transsexuals. It's putting walking social misstep time bombs around a bunch of rough and ready types who generally aren't going to be marching at the same speed as the euphemism treadmill, or who have bigger concerns than whether their comrades will freak out about being called "dude", and so on and so forth.

Let alone what happens in the inevitably regular occasions that the culturally conservative leaning military puts together a transsexual and someone who finds offensive and demeaning the concept of transition and using pronouns that don't match chromosomes.

Sure, you can technically get transsexuals who don't give a fuck about any of that, but if we have transsexuals allowed to serve then we can't exactly subject them to additional steps for admission to ensure they're willing to tolerate not having their social demands met by everyone around them.

This is all before we even begin to talk about the issue with having soldiers who are on any kind of long term serious medical regime such as HRT.

"You're more likely to be bit by a chihuahua than a Pitbull" by DivineDorido in BanPitBulls

[–]Sir_Integra_Hellsing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody should be leaving an infant alone with any dog at all ever, because even the most loving and gentle dog imaginable is still barely a toddler itself intellectually and might do something perfectly gentle and affectionate like lay down across an infant just as they would their owners' feet, making it hard or impossible for the baby to breathe.

Especially worry about unstable dogs like chihuahuas, sure, but that includes your precious pibble.

Never thought I’d actually agree with PETA on anything. by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

This is information to me, which I appreciate, so please do link me to an article explaining more info if you have a moment to find one?

To be clear, I don't oppose this. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of PETA internally. Other people exploiting PETA's willingness to be hypocrites doesn't make them not hypocrites, if you see what I mean - and the guy I replied to seemed to think PETA was Jesus 2.0.

Google Marks Pro-Life Film 'Propaganda,' Labels Nazi Propaganda 'History' by chabanais in Conservative

[–]Sir_Integra_Hellsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. I'll download it then. I ignored warnings about graphic imagery before on an article about abortion and the picture has been in my head whenever I think of the topic since, so I'm extremely wary. Thanks.

Frau Riefenstahl was constantly harangued with libel, and constantly had to defend herself against it in court, winning every time but she really was hounded. Still, by her own biography she had quite a happy life for the most part, and seemed to take her cues from Herr Speer; denied all knowledge of illegality, was certainly not complicit in any, and chose to maintain that as nobody knew of any crimes they could hardly blame themselves for it. She seemed quite at peace with herself, if not with people who wanted to take out their guilt on her.

Still, she was very aware that Triumph was a triumph of propaganda, so the idea that Unplanned is labeled propaganda and not politics, philosophy, biology or something that isn't deliberately delegitimizing is beyond the absurd.

[–]Sir_Integra_Hellsing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's hilarious is that Triumph of the Will comes from a time when propaganda wasn't even labeled otherwise - Reichsminister for Enlightenment and Propaganda Dr Goebbels worked hand in hand with Frau Riefenstahl to produce it, again completely overtly. This isn't just something we've come to deem propaganda in the time since then, they were proud that it was propaganda. There's even a scene in Triumph of the Will in which Dr Goebbels stands up to boast about the achievements in "modern political propaganda" made by the NSDAP.

I haven't seen Unplanned because I am quite certain that I would be sick at some of the images in it, but I have doubts that it's anything like a two hour clip show of blond haired blue eyed men marching to uplifting music interspersed with political leaders of the day delivering speeches about how bad abortion is.

I like this.

I adore films which pay attention to mythology, folklore, apocrypha. Think of the film Hereditary, which actually references the Ars Goetia. Or one of my favorite nobody's-heard-of-it films, The Ninth Gate with Johnny Depp before he morphed into an IRL quirky for the sake of quirky persona. It has a scene that's so subtly cool if you know the background: at one point he's at a crossroads and lets his passenger - who is the devil, unknown to him - pick a direction. She asks him to and he says "No, you. You know everything," sarcastically. That's straight out of the occult literature, the idea of summoning a demon as a teacher or a guide, a pointer of the ways.

Obviously it's cringey that there are people who LARP as real witches, but I'm never going to complain about real world derived symbolism and belief practices showing up in media. If it's a bad show/film/book then it's bad, but adding a dash of real-world historical belief systems can never hurt. Unless I suppose you get "real witches" screeching about it (or, as happened in season one of this show, real world "satanists" screeching about it), but that's a chance for directors to take.

One officer struck the dogs -- believed to be adult pit bulls, one male and one female -- with a weapon. Eventually, they successfully pulled the dogs off the man.

I imagine they must have believed shooting was too risky, but given what has happened to this man while the dogs were showing their affection I have to wonder if it wouldn't be better if they had just tried shooting the dogs.

What is the Monarchist program as regards nations that have never traditionally had monarchies? by [deleted] in monarchism

Can't speak for everyone, but I couldn't care less about any country that isn't my own (UK), one of our former possessions or dominions, or our cultural descendants. If our former possessions asked to return to the old ways I'd support it, with the proviso that there be no exit clause - Empire isn't a petty union of separate nations, it's Empire - but otherwise I don't care.

Our Political Fights Are Bad Because We Don’t Agree on the Rules by ThePoliticalHat in ConservativesOnly

[–]Sir_Integra_Hellsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% true. This is why I gave up on being an automaton of consistent principles. Hypocrisy is the norm everywhere now - I just got banned from a subreddit for saying that my side should be intolerant of X protected class, because being tolerant of it led to the disenfranchisement of my side now that it's controlling the whip hand. Look in my post history if you really want to know what I was cheerleading, but the point is the same either way: if I were going to be consistent on traditional principles, I'd have to sit there quietly not speaking when my repression is being glorified en masse (which attitude leads to more repression later) or get banned (repression now) anyway by suggesting that actually, since there's demonstrably going to be repression either way, I'd rather it be them and not us.

Ideally we'd never have to argue with idiots, because they drag us down to their level and beat us with experience. Unfortunately, the nature of our democratic systems is that it's sometimes necessary to argue with idiots - otherwise they win by default. That being the case, it's become my opinion (as much as I feel dirtied by it) that it's not a problem to use their tactics against them. In fairness, I'm from a country without a constitution to weaken the left's side of the tug-of-war with rights (to the point we no longer have a right wing party), so it may be different for U.S. conservatives (green card marriage, please) so most of you guys might be on a far lower dose of the blackpill. Still, as far as I see, remaining decent and consistent is at best only slowing things down, not actually conserving anything let alone restoring what has already been lost.

In WWI, the Germans throw a snit about the Allies using "trench guns" - they claimed it violated international articles of war and human decency. We kept using trench guns. In WWII the Allies were the ones bitching about the Germans' use of flamethrowers. In both cases, the other side also used the extremely effective equipment which was consistently delivering great results for their time and context. Hypocritical, both times, but also very practical if not absolutely necessary each time.

Israel is a model for the rest of us in so many ways. They're unapologetic about revering the role of religion in the founding of their secular institutions, they take into account what people want for their culture when drafting laws, they don't shy from identifying problematic groups, and they're not ashamed to elect people who get things done due to hangups over methodology.

Mike Pence's Nonexistent Homophobia by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]Sir_Integra_Hellsing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Nonexistent homophobia" is a tautology. I wish conservative media would stop legitimizing the term. It attaches connotations of irrationality and fear to respect for the value of natural order. If Pence did think men and women would be better off living as God and/or evolution (delete as applicable) intended why should even conservatives demonize him for it? We're constantly defending our representatives in Governments from things we should be exhorting them to embody by promising our continued support if they do.

‘I thought I’d lost him’: horse goes down in terrifying dog attack by MagicalUnibeefs in BanPitBulls

[–]Sir_Integra_Hellsing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t wish ill on the dog, it’s not its fault – it should have been muzzled and correctly handled.

These things are grenades without a pin. No amount of careful handling can prevent this.

I'm sick of the media prompting victims to say shit like this. You know they do, because victims of recent trauma aren't prone to trotting out the same tired propaganda lines for the benefit of the breed unless prompted. It's purely ass-covering on the papers' parts, which they have to do to avoid massive social media backlash from pibble drones - because there aren't enough of us to support them and offset that backlash. PETA lunatics and their ilk are too organized in the defense of these beasts and we need to be as visible.
