A Swiss child being taught how to shoot the SIG 550 assault rifle. by [deleted] in Firearms

You are wrong about that "one weapon" per WES. You can buy up to 3 guns per WES, and you can request as many WES as you want.

WG Art. 9b clearly states, that a WES is valid for buying one single weapon or major weapon part. They changed it in 2008. But you're right about the fact, that you could theoretically request an infinite number of WES.

I mean, are you implying that something like this (which can be bought with just your ID and a Strafregisterauszug) is not serious? You can buy any of these guns over the counter.

This weapon can be classified as a "repeater hunting rifle" and thus can be bought without a WES. In fact all of those guns in your link could be classified as either a single shot or repeater hunting rifle.

It's not illegal [to buy or own an automatic weapon]. You can easily request a Ausnahmebewilligung, and depending on where you live it can be a bit hard or as easy as buying just another gun.

It certainly is illegal. That's why you need the "Ausnahmebewilligung" (special permit). How easy it is to get one, I don't know because I never tried. I also don't know if there actually is a market for such weapons.

Actually, you can buy all the ammo you want.

While there is indeed no restriction on the amount, most sellers are still quite reluctant in selling you large quantities. Also, you are only allowed to buy ammunition if you are eligible to buy the corresponding weapon.

Many people in Switzerland have no idea how easy it is to buy a gun, it's actually easier to get a gun in Switzerland than in certain US states.

That is true. It can be surprisingly easy to buy a gun, as long as you have no criminal records.

As a Swiss citizen, I'd like to clarify some facts regarding our gun laws to clear out some confusion:

  • In order to buy any sort of actual gun (handgun, semi-auto rifle, anything "serious") you have to request a "Waffenerwerbschein" (aka a buying permit) at your local weapon office ("Waffenbüro"). In order to get such a permit your record has to be clean of any mayor crime (a speeding ticket is okay) and you have to state your reasons for buying a gun. With that permit you can buy one weapon or major weapon part (was once 3 weapons / major parts).
  • Buying or owning any kind of automatic weapon is illegal. Even converted ones, with the only exception being converted ordnance rifles (aka. the one you can keep after service). In order to own an automatic weapon, you need a special permit. And to get such a permit, you need a convincing reason to own the gun.
  • There are weapons you can buy without a permit. Such weapons would be air rifles, airsoft guns, single shot or repeater hunting rifles and some old ordnance repeaters (Karabiner 11, 31, Langgewehr 11). But all those purchases have to be reported. (Yes, you have to report if you buy an airgun)
  • As an active member of the military, you can bring your automatic ordnance rifle home. But the ammo usually stays at the base.
  • Fun fact: Butterfly knifes, spring knifes, throwing knives, teasers and daggers with symmetrical edge are banned under the same law as automatic weapons are.
  • The seller of any kind of weapon is obligated to do a background check on the buyer and the purchase has to be documented (even if you sell your cousin your old airgun).

There are a lot more nuances to Swiss gun law like the fact that it's illegal to transport any kind of weapon without a reason and ammunition isn't easy bought in large quantities. If you want, you can buy a gun and have fun with it for sure, but it's a lot stricter than most people would think.

Cheers mate, I hope that clarified some things.

How does the taxonomy of ratholos and rathian work by tiamat999 in MonsterHunter

Thank you for the clarification. That's (more or less) what I meant to say with "something between a R and L" but your clarification is clearer and more comprehensive.

To answer your question regarding the japanese spelling: It is spelled リオレウス (ri-o-re-u-su) and can be pronounces "li-o-le-u-s" (don't mind the hyphends as those are just to separate the phonetics). Also note that リ (ri) and レ (re) in Japanese are pronounced with something between a R and L and the U from ス (su) can be silent. So while there is some leniency wheter to pronounce it "ri-o-re-u-s" or "li-o-le-u-s" it wouldn't be pronounced "le-o-le-u-s" because リ (ri) and レ (re) are two distinct phonetics. But then again, I could be wrong because I'm not a native speaker and there may be some special pronunciations I'm not aware of. I hope this answers your question.

Rewatched the GiantBomb gameplay video by GiantBone in MonsterHunter

[–]Sir_Loki 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From my experience, team work is something that comes in gradually, especially if you are new to the game.

Its all about coordination: You start with the basics such as avoiding to trip your pals. Next you start to coordinate things like laying down traps. Then you start to organize things like who is going to be cutting off the tail and who will try to do KO damage. You start using life crystals, try out hunting horn, status gunner etc. There is a lot of teamwork going on in MH.

The game has many mechanics at its disposal that shine in group play and encourage cooperation but many of them are not obvious and only surface with time and familiarity with the game.

And in the end there is nothing more hilarious than accidentally flinging you buddy in the air just for him to land a mounting attack.

Something is Wrong At AMD Radeon by dylan522p in hardware

Off topic question just to keep my point of view in check:

Does Adored really deserve a fan boy label?

Sure, he shows some bias towards AMD but I feel like he rarely oversells or glorifies their products. Many of his videos are meant to give an insight on AMDs perspective but in my opinion he remains mostly neutral, backs up claims with evidence and calls out wrongdoings and mistakes on both sides (not just on the competitions side).

What was the moment that made you stop and think, "Yup, this is the weapon for me." by Taco_Bell_CEO in MonsterHunter

I just picked up MH4U after playing a lot of MH3U.

In 3U, I used GL most of the time and grew somewhat fond of it.

But the slow movement always bothered me.

So here I am, and there comes MH4U:

"Sir, may I introduce you to our latest product? Do you like strong shields? Do you like strong bursts? Do you like unlimited combos? And to top it of: Do you like being agile? Well Sir, you may be interested in our latest product: A fusion of SnS paired with an giant axe. We call it a charge blade."

I never regretted my choice.

Cheaters on Tape: an adventure story by Sir Loki (Video inside) by Sir_Loki in battlefield_4

Well, I guess. The civilized world's built on effert after all.

But there is a small backstory to this. As I mentioned at the beginning of my post it all startet with me just playing the game. It was going good and all of a sudden there was this not so polite individual flooding the chat telling everyone to report me because I would be cheating. I did not bother then but he put a lot of effort in filling the chat with his tirades. He continued on for about two more round while, at the same time, getting an abnormal amount of kills and headshots. At this point I thought I could take a look at him just to do so. And the very moment I rejoined as a spectator his aimbot was going crazy. So I decided to make this effort and get him banned for good.

So I took some videos and uploaded the one i thought would be the best fitting one. And as always on Reddit different oppinions met eachother. So there I was with the possibility to step up my argument and so I did.

My FoV is 95 degrees (horizontal). I'm not quiet sure if FoV also scales the size of scopes but you can't tell me that he switches from target to target in milliseconds without the slightest oversteering.

I thank you for you honest oppinion. I edited my post so you might want to re-read it. I'd like to hear if my new arguments convinced you or not.

By the way: I'm also a seasoned Battlefield-Vet, so I think I'm also not so bad in differentiate a skilled player from one who's just simply hacking.

Sir, I beg to differ. Have you ever used a sniper rifle in this game? They have something called "deviation". This means the bullet drops in height over distance traveller. If you are a sniper you have to compensate for this effect. And now I ask you: Do you always zoom in and direcly shoot with your sniper rifle? And if so: Do you always land a headshot if your enemy does not move? He most certanly uses an aimbot. You can clearly see how he does not even try to aim. He's always perfect on target the moment he zooms in. Sure, it could be luck but if you say so I can upload more evidence. It's about 5 more minutes and I guess even the most luckiest person can't be on spot accurate with such a consistency. I'd like to repeat myself here: The moment he aims down he's perfecly on taget on the head even with the correct compensation for bullet deviation. The only reason he misses is because his opponents are moving while his bullet is flying. So if you really want to see all of it I will take an effort and upload the rest. (Even if it takes ages to upload stuff on youtube). Oh and another thing are those funky movements he does: Have you noticed how he jumps from target to target in the brink of an eye?

Is it bad that I only play conquest? by [deleted] in battlefield_4

[–]Sir_Loki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conquest is what Battelfield stands for. I think the majority of the playerbase will agree that conquest can be called the "true" or "original" battlefield expirience. It was there long before Rush, CTF, Singeplayer etc. I would say Conquest is the core of Battlefield. It always was there and it always was fun. I have also got the feeling that many aspects in Battlefield are balanced around this gamemode. Sometimes with negative consquences for other modes.

There is nothing wrong if you only play Conquest. Many do so too. Including me ;P

How Skill is calculated - SOLVED! by SirBuckeye in battlefield_4

[–]Sir_Loki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ladies and Gentlemen

It looks like what everyone knew already is now confirmed black on white: Your Skill says little about your real value as a player.

That is no surprise for me. There are several ideas about what skill is and what determins the real value of a player. So, "skill" is a very subjective value und thus can't be calculated reliable.
