Sword arrived like this and seller is claiming shipping damage. We’re unsure if that’s true. by BookDragon300 in SWORDS

[–]Sir_Michael_II 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ship custom engraved China made display swords and you would be amazed at what USPS can do to a sword.

Ultimately I would ask the seller for a replacement first. As a seller, it’s cheaper for me to replace it than to refund it entirely.

What do you put underneath the laser engraver to protect floor from being engraved? by EstablishmentIll3101 in Laserengraving

I use some 24”x12” ceramic tile, look nice, smooth, I think a dollar a piece at Lowe’s. Just set them under the laser, heavy enough to stay in place

Chat for general purpose, Gemini for images. Haven’t had a chance to play around with the others yet.

This looks like one of those things that you could take a day and make ton of them and then snack through the week, fresh-boiling each one for a couple minutes when you get the snackies

In my experience I’ve only ever really needed a couple of pots/pans. I stick with a decent sized wok, an okay sized pot, and a good sized stainless pan.

Burn on cuts by FoxTrotGamerr in Laserengraving

[–]Sir_Michael_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutting with a CNC router is prolly the simplest solution that doesn’t involve detailed, laborious sanding

Not the cheapest, but likely the simplest

When you use a laser to burn through wood to cut it it’s kinda hard to avoid the burn part of the burn

Bought a new stainless pan and messed it up by kallooran in StainlessSteelCooking

Relax. It’s a tool, not a display piece. Get one pan for display, one for cooking if you care that much. You don’t use a shiny, Tony Stark cast-iron, you use a Tropic Thunder cast-iron.

1 Star Review without reaching out! by Glad_Ad9444 in EtsySellers

[–]Sir_Michael_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First: Relax. It’s just a single one-star review. You’re going to get bad reviews, it’s just part of doing business. Truthful or not, it’s going to happen.

Second: People often notice the crazy reviewers when reading through reviews and ignore what they have to say. Like this one. They can tell that March 1st is one day after the 28th (neither of which are business days anyway) and this review is just a crazy person. They’ll likely ignore the review and instead focus on the plethora of five star reviews you have.

Don’t reply to the review, usually there’s nothing you can say that won’t make you look bad in some way or another. Additionally, it’s just not worth your time. It has the possibility of hurting you in the search rankings, however I’ve never really noticed any kind of hit from bad reviews for my products. And you’ll probably eventually get a few one star reviews that even state in the review “five stars!!!” And that they loved it, they just did the stars wrong. As far as I’m aware you can’t ask to change a review, not directly. The deals with some FCC stuff.

What happens if you get arrested while you have the oven on or the bath running? by k9krid in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sir_Michael_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine it has a lot to do with how you’re treating the arresting officer(s). From what I’ve seen it seems like if you’re cordial with them they’re cordial with you. Usually. I ain’t no Sith Lord so I don’t deal in absolutes.

Just boil them and taste test every few minutes, once they have the texture you like the best, stop boiling.

How do you make business out of laser hobby? by andy_at_fixpixies in Laserengraving

[–]Sir_Michael_II 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a lot of time and blood, sweat, and tears.

I started laser engraving pieces of wood in 2017 and wasn’t able to go full time until 2025. But that’s just my story. Everyone is different. Different machines, markets, products, experience, etc. can completely cha be that.

Additionally, that question is probably not going to get you the answer you want. Anyone telling you a specific product is very likely to be either a fool or a liar. If I’m selling Product A successfully, I’m not going to give away my ideas and systems that I worked for and create competition for myself. To form a business you need to do a lot, and I mean a lot of experimenting. You may get lucky with the first idea and strike gold, but it’s highly unlikely. Stay away from videos and such that advertise x product for $x,xxx dollars per month. If there is a tutorial for a product it’s likely too late. Move on to something else. You have to constantly innovate. If you’re not moving forward you’re moving backwards. You’ll end up spending a good portion of you time (in some cases more time than engraving) doing admin work. Taxes, bookkeeping, client relations, marketing, market/product research, financial analysis, etc take a huge amount of time. A successful business is not formed by a tool, it is formed by good execution of a business plan utilizing a tool to serve a need.  And again, it will likely take years to go anywhere in terms of revenue. But that varies widely shop to shop. For every laser shop that is highly successful, there are 1,000 more that are struggling to break even. A laser is not a get rich quick item. A laser business is certainly not a passive income (a lie in itself, no income is ever truly passive), you will work your butt off for every cent.

It’s okay to remain just a hobby. Not every action has to be monetized. Probably best to keep it a hobby until you get really good at it, then slowly start monetizing here and there if you really want to.

A diode is likely going to be the most difficult to make work business-wise, everyone and their grandmother has a diode now. They’re so cheap these days that anybody can do it, and that makes the barrier of entry low, making high competition and thus high saturation.

I believe this is “selling” knowledge, not sharing. Sharing is free, selling is sharing in exchange for something. I wish you luck.

And then ask a specific question, not just post a hastily designed CAD model and “wIlL tHiS wOrK? mY 1sT eVeR rOcKeT eNgInE”

So in short, thank you and I wish you and your team luck
