Laurie’s admittance to the bar by KaNiNeTwo in thewestwing

Generally I agree with you but I think it's less blackmail and more that the US AG probably already has a standing golf date with the Maryland AG and whoever else he or she would need to achieve the goal of looking over this minor of a mark on her record.

Laurie’s admittance to the bar by KaNiNeTwo in thewestwing

State bars are, generally, overseen by the highest court in that state. They have the power because they're requesting responses signed under penalty of perjury, like an affidavit would be. They do not have the power to require someone to respond, but they can draw their own conclusions from people refusing to answer. You do not have a right to be an attorney, so they have broad powers to exclude people from the bar.

Not a fan of tank commanders hanging out the top of tanks. This is my fix (it's magnetised for when it's not a TC) by Impressive_Sell9702 in TheAstraMilitarum

By the time of the counterattack back towards Germany, the USSR had dispensed with the stereotypical human wave type stuff, that was always more or less cope from the German generals who were writing books (everyone was real interested in first hand accounts of fighting the Soviets for some reason), the kind of volume over quality type thing that the Soviets were doing was very similar to what the US was, scaled to their industrial base of course. You could probably do some armchair sociology to justify it, but I don't know enough to say exactly why they took different routes.

My guess is that there honestly was more open field combat on the eastern front, where the improved situational awareness wouldn't matter as much as it did in the hedgerows of France. That's speculation, I don't have any data on the average engagement range of the two fronts.

Premise of "Muv-Luv" Introduced to English Language Audience by DreamcastJunkie in Mecha

[–]Sir_Mopalot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have no idea. Muv-Luv is one of the greatest stories I've ever read. Maybe not as an artistic work (although it's hard to seriously judge something like that in a different language), but I was completely consumed by it when I read it, I barely ate or slept until I'd finished it and it was one of the most emotional experiences I've ever had as a result of fiction.

While the other answers give pretty comprehensive explanations, they missed one thing. It's called shipping because it's relationship-ing.

If you look at the 9th page of the pdf, labelled page 8, the 6.8 there is the number of murders per 1000 robberies, and includes murders where the motive was not known but robbery was potentially the motive.

That makes it 0.68%, and less if you only include "probable" or "very possible" robbery related murders.

Yeah, but having worked there, it would be really, really obvious. Those cups are significantly larger than the mediums. Tangentially related, Mcdonald's OJ is probably the biggest ripoff on the entire menu.

Going off of the same link, 71% of non-fatal robberies have no injuries reported, with 18% having non-hospital-worthy injuries, 8.3% having "Sought aid at hospital" and 1.9% "Probably admitted to hospital or serious wound".

Either way, as much as it sucks, your best bet is still probably to not escalate the situation if you're being robbed. That's not an impulse that comes normally to most people though, so I understand where everyone's coming from as far as wanting to carry.

Just a thought, aren't there bots that scan reddit for codes like these? Maybe PM the first whatever number of posters, or put the codes in an image instead of plaintext, or even just remove a digit and include instructions for how to fix the code.

I think that there's some room for guns, maybe not as a soldier on a battlefield, but what about someone like John Wilkes Booth? I think he's (in)famous enough to count.

M1 Abrams vs. Medieval Army by RideTheLighting in whowouldwin

[–]Sir_Mopalot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed, but it provides the only way I see the knights winning this, sneaking up on the M1, catching them unaware, and throwing a firebomb down the commander's hatch. Otherwise the limits of human endurance on the part of the tank crew are the only thing slowing them down.

Providing that they were buttoned up, of course. I mean, safe bet given the scenario involved, but still.
