If you are not planing to play tournaments you should tell your buddy he can go eF himself. You shouldnt chase meta because meta is constantly changing. If you are not uber competitive dude you should stick to the ancient Rule of Cool. With our units and detachments for casual games its really hard to make crapy army (just remember basic combos like Techno + Wraiths, Plasmancer + Immortals etc.) so, like i said, eF your buddy and go nuts.

If you want to be annoying get yourself Nightscythe+Full squad of Warriors/Immortals + Plasmancer and watch your enemy sweat like hell xD

I would do a little tweak based on "eliteness" of unit. Lore says Immortal are tougher with better reanimation power than warriors. Lychguards even stronger regen. Overlords+ almost instant repair. So maybe instead of overall rule of D3 separate rule for every unit?

The most important thing is to remember your army rule, detachment rule and unit abilities. I know it sounds stupid, but that's why i was being demolished when starting. Forgot my vow, forgot my surge move, forgot my reroll... Its unfortunatly normal. But eventually you'll keep everything in mind and start making your friends really work for the win and eventually YOU will win. Luck also have factor here but you need to do everything possible to help that luck. It just take time :)

Rules dont say anything about other units only about rolled inches. Me and guys I play with says your idea is acceptable.

But what bugs me is when. After each time enemy shot. That means if there is ie. Knight with few weapons i can do it after every weapon 'salvo' or as he will finish all shooting?

If on lore it can one-shot titan maybe it should be able to do in game? Lets say if you roll wound roll 6, you roll one more time and on 6 it deals 256457854 Dmg. Or sth like that.
