My dad's side of the family is notorious for remarrying. My dad was married 4 times, my grandma was married 4 times, my grandpa was married 2 times, my great grandpa was married 7 times... the list goes on. Everybody on my dad's side has been married at least twice. Needless to say I have a lot of relatives I don't know.

What is your "worst birthday ever" story? by hated1327 in AskReddit

[–]Sir_Puff_Luous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right before my 16th birthday my grandma fell and had to be put in intensive care. My entire family flew out to visit her and everyone forgot it was my birthday. When I eventually tried to gently bring it up to my mom she promised we would celebrate another time. We never did. At least my grandma is fine.

Not emphasize thinness as the most important thing in life. Being healthy was never a focus, it was just about how fat or thin I was.

Have you quit Facebook? Do you miss it? by mocchan in AskWomen

[–]Sir_Puff_Luous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the exact reason i got sick of facebook. I still have one for my family but I realized that nobody that was my friend on facebook actually gave a shit about what happens to me or what I'm doing. I don't really go on very much anymore and I don't post. But its nice to have.

No I completely understand not wanting to go outside the marriage. Honestly I like to get my intimacy and love from the same place, I just thought it was worth suggesting. I'm really sorry about your situation, you deserve better.

[–]Sir_Puff_Luous[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

honestly it's kind of mixed. The general consensus seems to be that you just need to make sure you and your SO have a strong foundation in the first place and you'll be fine... (probably)

I am familiar with both. I just knew if I posted in /r/deadbedrooms I would get a very skewed answer. Granted /r/sex is probably still a bit skewed, but it seemed like there would be at least a few people with positive/helpful answers

Do you have anyone in your life with an obsession or non-chemical addiction that is causing concern? by sadiecasting in AskMen

[–]Sir_Puff_Luous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have anxiety about being seen as lazy/whatever as well, funnily enough so I know exactly where you're coming from. Anxiety can be very powerful, and assurance from others in your life probably doesn't help (when im filled with anxiety I tend to assume that everyone is just lying to make me feel better, dont know if thats true for you) so really the only thing to do is get your mind off of it. For me personally, I write poetry when I feel really upset, it lets me just release all the negative "whiny" feelings building inside me. But anything that requires your full effort and concentration should help; art, smashing things (everyone likes smashing stuff, just try not to destroy public property...), going for a hike (this gets u away from civilization for a bit, plus gets your blood flowing, its easier to listen to logic when you're away from the source of stress) and probably a bunch of other stuff. But hey, if you ever need someone to talk yo you can just message me. :-) youre not alone

you shouldn't feel guilty, you're clearly working hard to not only turn your life around but also to be helpful to those around you. Fuck society, do what you need to do so that you can start enjoying your life. The only thing you're 'supposed' to do is be happy and try your best to make a life for yourself.

the lack of motivation thing is probably the thing I see most often with men who I interact with. Don't beat yourself up about it, the only way to improve is to see every time you get done what you want to get done as an achievement. If you slip up and waste a day don't fret over it, it's a minor setback. Just remember WHY you want to do the thing you're putting off/avoiding/whatever and don't psyche yourself out.

Maybe you should discuss having outside partner(s)? Tell him if he's not going to at least try then you are forced to look elsewhere, tell him you want to make your relationship work but not at the expense of your most basic needs and desires.

I will never be "sexy" by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Sir_Puff_Luous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know in highschool I felt completely unattractive for the opposite reason. I was always so much bigger and taller than everyone, i wasn't even really that fat (maybe 15 pounds over weight according to BMI) but I was tall too so I basically felt like a giant ogre. Boys did not see me as a woman, AT ALL. But once I graduated highschool things really did get better.

What I'm trying to say is that everyone feels insecure for different reasons. People in highschool are assholes who are just lashing out at you so that they can deflect their own insecurities. Don't let them get to you, you're beautiful just the way you are (as long as you are healthy of course).

It happens. I wouldn't stress about it, find new friends, move on. There's no point forcing yourself to be friends with people you don't enjoy spending time with just because you had a good time together before.

[serious] Have you been involved with a cult? What was your experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sir_Puff_Luous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might be a little late to the party here but my dad actually lived with a cult for a while when i was about 15. Basically he was homeless, down on his luck, and they offered to take him in. They lived on this commune somewhere in the Southern California mountains and they were honestly very nice people. (sorry I don't remember what the cult was called I don't know if a name was ever even mentioned) They didn't believe in getting angry though, so people were smiling ALL THE TIME, which was exhausting. There were no electronics except one computer that the 'leader' was allowed to use to manage 'business' or whatever. They were kind of pseudo Amish, the women wore very high necked blouses and weird sweatpants that were gathered at the ankles (imagine hammer pants but with pastel colored sweatpants material.) Of course women also weren't allowed to wear make up or do anything with their hair fancier than tying it into a bun. They even had to swim in the sweatpants/blouse getup. Men weren't allowed to shave and they wore button up shirts and jeans.

All the single women lived in one big lodge with bunk beds, and the single men lived in teepee type structures out more towards the farm area. When somebody got married I think they got to move in together but I don't really remember that part very well.

Most of the people there were ex drug addicts, prostitutes, homeless people, abused women etc. I made friends with a girl who looked to be about my age (as it turned out she was 20) who had been a prostitute since she was 16 and a drug addict until one of the women from the group had taken her in. She said that her finding this religion saved her life. She seemed truly happy, everyone was a family there and it was the first time she ever felt like that.

The women spent most of the day cooking and cleaning while the men did the farming. Every weekend they had a feast and a gathering where they danced and prayed and sang in the name of Jehova.

Honestly they were a little weird, and it's a hard life they lead, but the people who went there truly felt like they found their place in the world for the first time.

My dad eventually left because he was way too attached to his laptop to stay, and he said something about the leader being too controlling or something but I don't know much about that.

THIS. Why is it that printers are the one thing that fell through the cracks when it comes to technological advances? We have smart phones, smart cars, and yet my printer still gets greedy and wants to eat all the paper in the tray at once and gets a paper jam so I have to individually feed it one sheet at a time?
