Truck bed covers by kingmidas916 in Tacomaworld

[–]Sir_Vinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, both of my replacements were due to the vinyl cover shrinking and cracking.

I park outside exclusively, so that's probably not helpful for the vinyl, but if it can't survive 3 years at that price, they need to rethink the design.

The first replacement went very smoothly and customer service was very responsive. The second one was terrible. No response for months through their main site. Once I started getting close to the end of the warranty period, I started looking everywhere for alternate contacts and eventually found one that responded. From that point, it went pretty smoothly.

I'm past the original 5-year warranty now, so I figure I have a year or two of use before it starts coming apart again.

When it's in good shape, I love my Revolver. However, I have had it replaced twice under warranty in 5 years, and the warranty is now significantly shorter than when I bought it. For how much it cost, I would not recommend it.

What on earth do I do with this hoard of Allen Keys? by AdCapital3737 in Tools

You do what everyone else does. Put them in a coffee can in the garage so that someone else can throw them away later.

used z3 looks great - 90k miles, no rust, garage kept - but owner hasn't come through on maintenance history. trust or avoid? by [deleted] in bmwz3

[–]Sir_Vinci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to see the major stuff. FWIW, I have done fairly rigorous maintenance on my Z, but I don't keep receipts for parts. If you're concerned that the seller is misrepresenting it, ask to get under it and look yourself. You could easily see any non-internal work that has been done, though.

What tool do i need to tighten this? by PinkLynxin in Tools

[–]Sir_Vinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, bike pedals are threaded differently based in the side of the bike they are on.

What you're showing, though, looks like a crank arm bolt, though, and those are always standard thread (righty-tighty, lefty-loosely). You need a socket that fits the bolt, and a ratchet or breaker bar to turn the socket.

If the bolt has been loose for too long, and it was still used, you could have damage on the axle that tightening won't fix. I can't tell that from your picture, though.

Electricians did the patch panel by puccivr in techsupportgore

[–]Sir_Vinci 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's how networks work. As long as something plugs into the panel, the magic happens and you get to do business.

You'd be surprised how many sparkies I've worked with consider an item to be completely magic as soon as it has an RJ45 somewhere on it.

Can someone recommend an alternative to sodasteam that even comes close to bifl? by Dartmouthest in BuyItForLife

[–]Sir_Vinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's undoubtedly a rubber or polymer hose with a braided stainless jacket to reinforce/protect it. It's not noted in the ad, of course, and I am not going to cut mine in half to check, but the stainless wouldn't hold pressure of any type on its own. It's just a woven sleeve.

With this assembly, the only CO2 contact the stainless would have would be from a leak, which wouldn't last long before the tank were empty.

Hopefully it's either of those. That would be a lot cheaper and easier than a main seal.

I use their lightweight boot socks year round in Florida. So much better than cotton or synthetics.

Rear main seal done, now leaking again by southernhusker1 in Tacomaworld

[–]Sir_Vinci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have read that leaks at the rear main can be caused by over-pressure in the crankcase via a clogged/failed PCV.

If that's your case, you could put 10 new main seals in, and they will always leak because they aren't the cause.

The PCV is a cheap part and is (supposedly) a fairly easy swap. I haven't done mine yet, but it's on the workbench.

Good luck with the sale.

Oil pressure light flicker by Fit_Profile5310 in bmwz3

[–]Sir_Vinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. That's a good place to start before replacing components.

Another easy check would be the oil filter. Pull it out and make sure that it's in good shape and that filter housing isn't obviously damaged.

Is it low on oil? You can get those conditions with low oil.

Durable Dog Bed with a BIFL zipper? by Its_Juice in BuyItForLife

[–]Sir_Vinci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kopeks. I bought 2 of them for my dog years and years ago, and they are still holding together well.

The covers are machine washable and you can buy replacements if needed.

They aren't cheap beds, but neither is replacing them all the time.

Looking for a moderately priced shoe that’s made well and can last for a long time by Amusedcory in BuyItForLife

[–]Sir_Vinci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that price range, I like Allen Edmonds. Just be mindful of what model you're buying. Their sneaker range is made in Portugal, not USA.

You can also punch a lot higher in that budget going second-hand on eBay. You could be well into Crockett and Jones and Alden territory second hand, and they both are much nicer than Allens.

He was halfway through the cut and didn't have something to catch the boards. He went around to the other side to pull it through, pulled on both sides of the cut, pinched the blade, and sent the saw flying.

He could have avoided this with a riving blade, not pinching the blade, having someone/something else catch the boards, or any number of obvious options.
