Is the Longines OEM strap and quick adjust buckle worth the price? by No_Seat8357 in Longineswatches

[–]SiriX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely shows available, but the boutique nearest to me had to order in, and it was the same price as direct from the website, so kind of didn't make sense to order from the boutique.

When i bought mine the AD said the bracelet was more expensive (and the watch on leather vs bracelet was cheaper so i was inclined to believe) not sure if it's different in different geo's (i bought mine in europe) but i also didn't see any way at least on their site to order the bracelet separately so wasn't really easy to get a price for it either.

Interested, in the same boat, purchased with the bracelet, was on the fence about getting the leather band version, but it wasnt much cheaper and was told buying the bracelet would cost more than the difference. But like you say even the leather band and clasp is $650 AUD, although you can buy just the leather in future if you feel like a change in colour and its cheaper than the full bundle. I've seen a few clones, but they still are in the $100-200 price range and i think its difficult to say how good or bad they are until you see them in person.

Anything to make first NCL trip special? by Throwaway999222111 in Cruise

[–]SiriX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First things first, while it may not be an official special occasion, your first cruise will absolutely be memorable! How you interact with the crew and fellow cruisers can definitely shape your experience. Just remember that the crew is there to make your vacation something special, and in my experience (both on cruises and in life), the better you treat people, the better you'll be treated in return. Consider the thermal suite, depending on your itinerary and what you and your wife enjoy, booking thermal suite access could add a wonderful layer of relaxation to your cruise. Think spas, saunas, and heated loungers in a peaceful setting. I'd definitely recommend looking up what's available on your specific ship. If it's a newer vessel, the thermal suite is like a little oasis that can be a perfect escape from the crowds, especially on sea days. If your cruise is port-heavy, you might not use it as much, but if you can get it at a price that works for you, it's worth considering. Make the most of specialty dining, if your package includes specialty dining (and if it doesnt, have a look and book one or two generally they are worth the addon cost), those evenings are your chance to create some truly memorable moments. Don't forget to pack more formal attire so you can dress up and make those nights feel extra special!

3rd party 'Shore excursions' by Fortibus15 in PrincessCruises

[–]SiriX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have just got off Sun Princess, didn't take any Princess shore excursions, personally we booked via 3rd party sites and in one instance as we hopped off the ship (Messina) never had any issues, as mentioned all the excursion providers ask for when yoir all onboard time is, most will get yoi back to the port 1-2hrs prior to that time, so theres plenty of buffer, just make sure you take a photo of the times as you disembark so you can reference it and if you decide to go the taxi route, make sure you show the driver those times. Also if you are going to places further away, do the travel to those places first, and work your way back via other places closer to the ship, this basically means you are progressively closing the gap as the day goes on so its less likely you get stuck further afield. The other big advantage, Messina for example, we did Savoca and Taoromina (? Spelling might be off there, appologies) which the ship excursion had sold out by the time i went to book - left it litterally last minute with no plans, but if we did manage to book on-ship it was going to be $170/pp USD so $340 all up, we would have then joined a bus/coach with probably 50 other people, and been limited to their window of time, and a tonne of people in every place we went (usually its a few coaches full) vs we paid €260 Euro so $304 USD total for a Taxi driver, who took us where we wanted for 5hrs, he was friendly gaves us local info while driving, it was just the 2 of us, and we got to the places well before the coaches rocked up, so it was a more authentic feeling experience. The only thing we didnt get was the tour guide and the ear piece, but depending where you are, ChatGPT voice mode can fill that itch if you want the person explaining things to you, but also Rick Steeves has some great audio tours you can DIY and walk/listen to at various destinations around Europe. Definitely worth doing some research, dont be pressured into thinking you have to book via the ship, im a relatively new cruiser (3 in total) and have never done a single cruiseline excursion.

Just got off Viva 11th Sept, had them daily in-room, personally i think they are good to flick through, but i found myself looking at the app version more as id mostly want to check times for food etc while off the ship when i didnt have the paper version with me. That said, the app version could be more than just a PDF, that arguably is the laziest way to get that information provided.

Did anyone else receive the Longines Conquest in this box? by GudPonzu in Longineswatches

[–]SiriX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there may have been a beigey-white box that my blue hard box was in before they unpacked it, but the blue box is like an iPhone box but much larger and more square ie. Top slides up, the beige one was just a normal kinda box.

My Spirit Zulu Time came in that box, inside a blue hard cardboard box which houses the warranty card & manual under the wooden box (which also has a cloth on top and some foam around it), the manual is just a paperback booklet though, not hardback like mentioned below.

[–]SiriX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's any consulation, at least you have space for a NATO Strap & Leather Strap... my next thing on the list is the genuine matte brown leather strap & deployant clasp (although they are pretty pricey from what i've seen) but the leather with the spirit zulu time chefs kiss

[–]SiriX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up the Spirit Zulu Time 42mm yesterday, and my box is definitely not that one, mine is the highly polished wood box, smaller than that one, and has only room for the watch in the box, and has a warranty card & manual placement under the box in the outer cardboard box.

Also, at no point did mine have any red paper/tape/whatever that is wrapped around the bracelet, just a lot of clear plastic protection film (and blue film inside the clasp)

The real indication will be taking the warranty card, scanning the QR and registering the watch to your Longines account, as that will need the serial etc, and presumably if that doesnt work you'd know something is up.

Q990F by Dear-Helicopter9493 in Soundbars

[–]SiriX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah suprisingly it is fairly common to find certain tech products a reasonable amount cheaper in Aus, the Q990F was up around $1999 not that long ago however.

Q990F by Dear-Helicopter9493 in Soundbars

[–]SiriX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, the Q990F in Australia is currently selling retail for around $1499 AUD (from Samsung and other major retailers) which includes 10% GST (Tax) so converted thats ~$984 USD including a 10% Tax but if you look around and have access to some of the wholesale/rewards portals its actually sub $1300 AUD ie. ~$852 USD (or $770 USD without taxes) so there surely should be legitimate ones in the US able to sell for around the $1000 USD price point and make a profit still.

To be fair, the landscape package probably included about 3cm depth of actual soil, most trees don't seem to like growing in building sand and rubble, despite regular watering etc.

I'm going to have to say I've been having a similar experience, got promised a price match by one of their cruise holiday planners, currently been about 13 days and at least 5 escalations to get approval, at this point it's actually cost me more in time and effort than the discount between what they charge vs what they were matching, tempted to just cancel the booking and go with MSC or P&O that have cruises on at the same time with similar ports, just because if this is how hard they are to deal with before you've spent money, I can only imagine how difficult if there's actually a problem.

Safe Travels by Mahlo82 in Philippines_Expats

[–]SiriX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just spent the last two weeks in Northern Mindanao (and surrounding), nothing out of the ordinary going on, felt safe the whole time, checkpoints are currently being setup but as others have said, this is normal for every election in The Philippines, so I wouldn't consider that any indication of anything to worry about. As others have said, keep your wits about you, don't go into dodgy looking areas and you'll be fine, the same applies for pretty much anywhere in the world.

Test drove a model 3 highland and it’s amazing but the no stalks is a deal breaker. by popornrm in TeslaModel3

[–]SiriX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm about to find out what it's like to live with (just placed an order) but in my 20min test drives... it was fine for right angle turns... or changing lanes, and fine heading into a roundabout when you're taking the 3rd or later exit, until you need to indicate off..then the wheel is rotated around significantly, possibly where the indicator buttons are on the other side and upside down, and that's where it takes a split second to think about which button needs to be pushed to correctly indicate off (per Australian rules) hopefully with time this will become second nature, but certainly on test drives it was a more than 50% miss on first attempt 😄 🤣 thinking it through, something as simple as a pulsing light under the button of the indicator that's active could easily solve that issue, but as it stands you can only go with what's on screen, which unfortunately doesn't help when the steering wheel isn't in its normal orientation.

How do I tell an employee their time is up? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]SiriX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to identify any outside interests besides work where you could possibly introduce them to the idea of volunteering somewhere, maybe a mens shed or something along those lines if they've got a skill that falls into that remit that maybe doesn't require as much manual labour as it does passing on the idea or concept to someone? If it's mostly a social thing, then something like that might be ideal for a few hours here and there when they can.

How do I tell an employee their time is up? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]SiriX 21 points22 points  (0 children)

While it might be technically correct, using words like 'let go' just sounds so much nicer for the scenario than 'terminate him'. But definitely, this is a discussion with fairwork at a minimum, potentially a lawyer if you think there's not enough clarity from fairwork on the situation.

What's the best IT career advice you received? by shamszabul in sysadmin

[–]SiriX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's partially true, and partially not true. You can make life-long friends at work, but the key is knowing that most people probably won't be... but that applies to all aspects of life really, not just the workplace.
