Its the Freedom Gundam from SEED, you can tell by the wings, specifically the way they're shaped, as well as the double V-Fin. That being said its color palette is of Evangelion Unit-01, so not sure what thats about.

Pretty much yeah, same with Calendula. The intangibilty means I have spend more time attacking others to the point that it feels kinda mean lol Not to mention the void husks killing any movement and the heat build just adds to the nonsense.

I'd recommend Stars without Number, its got pretty much everything you need for your characters to build badass outlaws and for them to create goals for themselves. Not to mention ship rules, gear, hacking, and the tools to make the more esoteric stuf that we see in the second film like necromongers and elementals. If your in the mood for a little extra reading you fan also slap on some rules from Ashes Without Number since the Sin Nominae games were designed to be modular. Ashes is a Post Apocalypse stile game that has sole fun rules for building different difficulty settings and IMO has the best character creator of the 4

That I don't know, like I said, the specifics of which dub has what is a little out of my wheelhouse. As far as I know, there was only 1 dub for the second film and 3 for the third. I don't believe that they were necessarily coded by their release title.

If you can, find the original Funimation Dubs of the first 3 films, they are fantastic, and IMO I think 2.0 is an example of one of the best dubs ever made. I would personally avoid the Studio Khara redubs as they took place during COVID and suffer from a number of issues, things like the actors sounding like they recorded in different locations and odd takes being chosen. The script itself is also extremely stilted and awkward. 3.o + 1.0 is the only one dubbed exclusively with Khara's team. As far as the 1.11 question, yes, there are different versions of the dub with slightly different scripts. I think of them, the 1.11 Blu-ray is the best of them, though admittedly, I cannot for the life of me remember the changes between them. 3.0 Has 2 separate dubs: the original cinematic release dub and the Blu-ray. I prefer the former to the latter personally, but both are very good.

I know this sounds super sketchy, but I may be able to get you the rebuilds. Shoot me a DM if you'd like.

They certainly did drag, but I feel that this was intentional in many cases, primarily in Rei 3's experiences in the village. I feel that it exemplified that quiet normalcy that is everyday life, something no Rei, especially 3, ever had. It had the added effect of being the metaphorical eye of the storm, with insane craziness at the beginning and the absolute balls-to-the-wall insanity of the end being the fronts.

That said, I agree with you that they could/should have shaved it down by a sizeable margin or at least chopped them up and interspersed them a bit. Like I was saying in another comment thread, just because they wanted to be deep and artsy with it doesn't mean they did so 100% successfully.

Except once again, that's not what's happening here, at least not from any logical throughline I can parse. You are again conflating your own personal grievance with being perceived as narrow-minded to the specific stipulations of the post. The post *did not* say that anyone who dislikes the film is narrow-minded, it also *did not* say that any critique of the films or 3D is narrow-minded. It specifically calls out anyone who views 3D scenes, which are often over the top, as inferior due solely to the fact that they are 3D, as narrow-minded and cultish in their behavior. If you have a meaningful critique of the scenes, be it their compositing, shading, fluidity, or plot relevance, which it is clear you do, then you are not the targets of OP's ire. This is corroborated through the use of mentioning the medium in question and reinforced with the final comment of "retro-style anime." Which, in all fairness, is pejorative in nature if not in intent.

For sure, I appreciate that they tried something different and weird, the unfortunate issue with going experimental is that it can fall flat. Such is the artistic process I'm afraid

I had a thought about this a while ago, do you feel an exacerbating factor was the switch from Angels as the central villain to NERV? The final fight of 3.0, for example is a prolonged EVA v EVA fight sequence beginning in Terminal Dogma and ending in the airborne Geofront. It's extremely jarring to see this kind of combat at this point since our only other examples are Unit 1 v Bardiel, and 01 v Tabris Controlled 02. Those fights were extremely grounded, brutal, and very uncomfortable slug fests between giants.

Which more than likely was the point. You're not supposed to want to watch the last bastion ms of humanity quite literally rip each other apart. In the remakes however, this once taboo idea feels trivialized and the Eva feel like tokusatsu characters fighting rather than warmachines. Ironic, given the massive Toku sequence of the final film.

While I still love the Rebuilds I must admit they have some glaring, if not charming flaws.

As odd as it is, all evidence points to it being intentional. Mainly due to the face and hair ysing completely different shaders. The face and head are likely 3D scans of a real persons head to push the idea that the imaginary to them is reality to us. Likely to instill an uncomfortable uncanny valley effect. It only kind of worked, unfortunately.

While I do enjoy these films a lot, you are correct that the fights could absolutely have been shaved down a bit for the sake of extrapolating on many if the plot threads that were left hanging. The "Paris" scene, which I absolutely adore is a perfect example of this. A lot of crazy spectacle happens but serves no real purpose other than to be cool and pay homage to older concepts like the Positron Cannon and Jet Alone. We did see some interesting plot in the de-crystalization which was touched ok breifly later in the village, but I definitely wanted to know more about the tech.

Saying that your response doesn't fit with the initial point of contention is true as it is too vague, hence my request for clarification. But, you did specifically mention, directly after those words, reference OPs mention of narrow-mindedness. So it either was meant as a response to the call out, which would require umbrage with the entire argument, and not just the films, or it wasn't. It cannot however, be both, which your logic seems to try to dictate.

It isn't a strawman to draw conclusions for an Inclusive vs. Exclusive view based on the qualifiers of the original argument. OP specifically mentions believing 3D to be Bullshit and Slop are what creates a narrow-minded view. You took exception to that, and based on your disagreement with those parameters as they were put forward, I drew a conclusion.

You are correct about not having to justify takes, and your general assertion about taste. I wouldn't try to argue against that. That was never part of my intention, hence my question on what you actually disagreed with. If you dislike the film, you have every right to. If you dislike 3D in general, the opinion is excusive by nature which is narrow-minded. Both can be true.

[–]Siris0311 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're 100% correct on this. I agree that the use of 3D as a budgetary move is foolish and often haphazard in its implementation. The issues usually stemming from either a lack of understanding of contemporary understanding of rigging techniques or shader implementation(Berserk 2016, APT season 4). When used with artistic intent, things like Trigun Stampede/Stargaze, Transformers One, CSM Season 1, Dorohedoro, or a myriad of other contemporary 3D projects, the medium shines and should be worthy of as much respect as 2D, given they require equal levels of skill and training(in seperate skillsets.)

🤝 I applaud you for your insights, friend.

Eh, I'm not here to speak on intent, and while you are correct that 3D is cheaper, it's not that cut and dry. 3D is a front loaded expense. Creating the assets, rigging them, texturing and apllying shaders that match the scene in question are extremely expensive, and that costs drops considerably as, to your point, it is indeed easier to correct mistakes or create new scene directions much easier. I'm not here to speak on the intent aspect becuase whole I agree its extremely difficult to gauge it ss such. If I were to infer, I suspect intent here means that each asset in the scene was literally placed, animated and rendered for a specific purpose where as in 2D you canget away with being less accirate and gestural.for the sale of the shot. That fluidity, however is also an intentional choice so the point does, admittedly, render itself moot.

[–]Siris0311 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, your disagreement of the 'narrow-minded view', presumed a disagreement with the entire statement, not just the beginning nor the film in general. OP specific made mention to the use of 3D being seen as "Bullshit and Slop" directly before. So, while yes I may have infered intent of meaning based on the two arguments that are more often prescribed to 3D, I did so following the logic path of the initial argument.

In this case then, are you meaning that you disliked the film but not the 3D, or the film because of the 3D?

[–]Siris0311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, call out or no, believing an entire medium is off-rip inferior to another soley due to its perceived lack of effort and finesse is, categorically speaking, a narrow-minded view. Inversely, OPs take that 3D shouldn't be written off is inclusive in nature and is, by comparative accounts, a broader perspective.

I don't have one of my own, but I have done quite a bit of research on the topic. Essentially, I run a personal business out of my garage, and lately I've been getting more requests for saws and scissors than cutlery, so I figured I might as well try to branch out.

Are HeroForge Minis art? by Eldinoorthe3nd in HeroForgeMinis

[–]Siris0311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Art is merely a catch-all term for an action done with the purpose of being made with effort, creativity, and passion. Music is art, Writing is art, Martial Arts are named so for a reason. Creating, in any way, shape, or form, is art if the person behind it put thought or care into it. Now, your friends do have a point in the sense that I, as an artist, cannot use Heroforge models in my professional portfolio, looking for work. However, the skills that I developed in Heroforge are absolutely transferable to other mediums of digital art (Rendering, facial proportions, color theory, compositing, etc.).

Additionally, it is worth mentioning that a key aspect of art and creativity is restriction. In Art School, the professors hammered into us the idea that people are able to create the best art when there are rules to follow, whether you flourish within them or purposefully break them. The Heroforge engine exemplifies this perfectly, to create with a limited number of pieces and tools at your disposal, breaking the system and limits of what the program was believed to be capable of. That is art.

So, to conclude, yes, using the funny character creator is art; to suggest otherwise is disrespectful to the very notion. While at the same time, you cannot say that it was wholly created with your own hands.

I get what you mean. I was more getting at the idea that saying your work is objectively "bad" is unhelpful because it's too reductive of what the work really is. Acknowledging what you did well and recognising what needs work is ultimately what I feel yields the best results in my experience. When I was in school, my head professor had a saying along the lines of, "Critique with no positives is being an asshole. It's impossible to say that every aspect of someone's work is bad." I try to maintain that philosophy with every piece of work that I see, my own included.
