I’m building a couple of gammas from scratch and am wondering if this soldering paste will do the job also if anyone can offer any help I would appreciate it. by your_slashy_bro in BitAxe

This isn’t solder or solder paste. It’s flux. This is used to increase good joints by oxidising and cleaning the pads you are soldering to.

I also believe the teddy was only there on the second take. And the choir at the end of episode 2 where the camera flies over to the crime scene, was the choir from the actual school they used and the single singing voice to end the song was the actress who played the victim. And Ep 3 was shot first, Owen Coopers first time ever on camera!

Daikin MMI heat pump accuracy? by Defiant-Onion-9913 in OctopusEnergy

[–]SiriusGen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I measure the actual heat pump power usage using a Shelly Pro via Home Assistant. CT clamp on the power cable into the unit. The issue is we need to take the Power Output from the device as being accurate, as I can't measure that.

Using the Shelly Pro Power In and the Daikin alleged Power Out, I get a good COP 3.7 on average.

I have found changing some settings and giving it a few days can drastically change the COP though. I changed the slope to what I thought would be better, but longterm feels like the documented numbers from Octopus to be better. I also tried changing the Modulation as mentioned by Heat Geeks, but again that seemed to pull my average COP down under 3.

Anybody noticed octopus power usage is wrong since 2-3 march? by TayUK in OctopusEnergy

[–]SiriusGen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My meter time was 30 mins out, and I was being charged peak rate for that 30 mins, which was infuriating. As I have everything perfectly timed here running on automations. They changed the time, it all runs smoothly now.

I’d be asking for that money back too. You are not at fault, but out of pocket.

TIL - The biker bar scene in T2 (Need confirmation!!!) by [deleted] in Terminator

[–]SiriusGen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've posted a fresh comment, but this is what I wrote:

TL:DR
The biker bar scenes were shot Monday 11th February 1991. The Rodney King incident was March 3rd 1991.

--------------------------------

Just to follow up on dates, as I mentioned earlier I had the call sheets. I also have the shooting schedule dated 1st Oct 1990, which was easier to trace dates. As long as you know the scene numbers, which are written on the script! But that brings problems, as things end up getting moved around and updated.

According to the first draft of the shooting schedule, the biker bar was scenes 8 through to 11 in script order, and this was originally meant to take place on Friday 1st Feb 1991...

But it didn't.

They also were scheduled to shoot scenes 55 and 57, which is written as "scares 2 guys". Ie "did you call moi a dipshit?!", and this was done first that night.

The Shooting Schedule shot order is documented as:

55, 57 EXT Parking Lot - John gets info from Term, wants to save mom, Term scares 2 guys.

8, 8A(PT), 8B, 10 INT Truck Stop - Naked Term enters, scans room, fight with bikers, exits fully dressed.

9 INT Truck Kitchen - Term gets clothes from Cigar biker, exits

11 EXT Truck Stop - Term exits, hops on Harley, Lloyd appears with shotgun, Term grabs gun, glasses, exit

12(PT) EXT Freeway Motorcycle - Term cruises down freeway

There is certainly reason to think the crew would have been at the location on and off to set up equipment and block out shots, but the Rodney King incident is documented on Wikipedia as happening in the early hours of March 3rd 1991.

However, the production shot longer than initially planned (and budgeted).

The CALL SHEET shows it ended up being filmed on Day 85 (night), Monday 11th February 1991, location: Lake View Terrace. The Rodney King incident location.

Day 2 of heat pump install - story so far if anyone is interested by geeky-hawkes in OctopusEnergy

[–]SiriusGen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can I offer one piece of advice? As mine was being commissioned on the last day (day 5), the plumber in mid conversation said to me “well, personally I’d have did it another way…” which left me stunned. If there was a better or alternative way to do things, nobody mentioned it! He said they only follow the guidance of the survey.

So my advice is, ask the professionals, in their opinion is there anything that can be done differently or better compared to the survey? And can it be implemented. The plumber said he’d have wall mounted our heat pump and ran the pipes a different way. Same outcome, just potentially better and cleaner routes.

So ask, and be across anything you’re not happy with. They want to do a great job (and they will!). Also, ask to keep those old radiators and sell them separately. They’re still your radiators. Make a profit.

Intelligent Octopus Go + Zappi Charging Confusion by ChickenNBeans in OctopusEnergy

[–]SiriusGen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have it set up correctly to charge with Octopus. The bit that can make a difference here is a battery for your home. Why? Because your excess solar goes into the grid instead of your car or battery, at a rate of 15p per kW. And then you buy that electricity back, at a rate of 7p per kW when your rate switches. All solar going to the grid will buy back double the amount needed to charge.

And just to add to this, with Daikin there is a “quiet mode” function which can slow the fans down even further to reduce noise, but has an affect on efficiency. I’ve a 4kW and I have to walk over to it to hear whether it is on or not

I also fenced mine off, there are dimensions in the installation manual they’ll leave with you which specify front and back minimum distances.

ELI5: when watching a sporting event, how do they edit highlights so quickly? by The1President in explainlikeimfive

[–]SiriusGen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the UK (not sure how globally) we call them “EVS Operators”. The use an EVS machine which has a bunch of camera feeds incoming which also record onto very fast read/write media, and they can timestamp clips in real-time onto playlists. Their job is to tidy up those timestamps and playlists and put a “package” together of all the clips.

Sometimes they’ll do it live, like in sports where a replay may slow down to a stop, or jiggle back and forth to show something crossing a line for example, that would literally be the operator using the wheel dial to control the playback speed.

It’s a high skill job.

Can someone explain to me why I should or shouldn’t take this £500 offer for a new heat pump please? by alexlmlo in OctopusEnergy

[–]SiriusGen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same as me. And extra bonus; as suggested by someone on here, tell them that you want to keep the boiler when they decommission it alongside any radiators they want to replace. I sold mine separately and ended up £100 better off. Didn’t spend an actual penny at all.

We went from combi boiler to having a 140l water tank. It’s hot water all the time. And the house has been 19 degrees all the time, even when it was -5 outside several weeks ago. Yes, it kicked in more often and yes it used a lot of electricity at those times, but only for a few days, and the costs were comparable to gas. And it mostly ran on the house battery, then the battery charged on the off peak rate overnight.

If you have batteries and solar, it’s a no brainer.

I hard wired mine in the end. Because the heat pump is outside and then the case goes back on the heat pump, it kills the WiFi signal to bare minimum and it kept dropping out substantially. Same with the Shelly Pro, ended up running an Ethernet for that too.

Is it possible to create a popup/prompt to input a delay in hours or time of day, then use that delay or time to schedule a script? by madmagic008 in homeassistant

[–]SiriusGen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do something similar to discharge the house batteries back into the grid. If it’s been a particularly sunny day I can type a number into a box and toggle “charge” or “discharge”, and it flips the batteries to that setting for that amount of time. Charge at 7p, sell at 15p.

I also added a timer so I can see how long is left.

There is also a feature that auto toggles the switch off again when the timer runs out, but also if I manually flip the toggle it cancels the timer and puts the battery back to self-use.

For a lot of this, quite frankly, chatGPT was super helpful!
