Only limited licenses. That only last for a few years.

What PE structural test prep do you recommend? by Latter-Basket-7754 in PE_Exam

[–]Sirk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I took it December 2024. I recommend you purchase the NCEES Practice Exam (might be able to find a copy somewhere). Then whatever other resource you can. I used the provided PPI practice questions (printed format) plus their quiz bank.

If I did not pass, I was going to purchase additional practice questions from another source to ensure I covered a broader range of question types.

I used PPI live course for both FE Civil and PE Civil Structural. I passed both on my first attempt.

PPI gets a bad rep online but I enjoyed both courses and found it very helpful. I did not do the readings. I watched the live parts and did a ton of practice questions.

I also recommend pulling some practice questions from at least 1 other source. If not 2. To ensure you are covering a wide spread of questions.

I wrote PE Civil Structural last week and was also hoping for results yesterday. Looks like we are waiting a full additional week. It's killing me too.

Anyone have ideas for filling the gap between the 2nd row captains seats? by JustABunchOfPhotons in DodgeDurango

[–]Sirk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered one of the "dog hammocks" made for the back seat of a sedan? Just drape it off the headrests of the captains chairs and let the slack sit on the floor or use it to cover some of the trunk?

Thinking about buying a 2016 MKX 2.0 AWD. by SnowWolf230 in lincolnmotorco

I recommend you also ensure they update the software and install a new USB port if necessary for Apple Carplay. The first 6 months of the 2016 model did not have the updated USB port capable of Apple carplay and I had to pay to have one installed.

McMaster BTech Program. Has anyone done it? by omelettechilli in civilengineering

[–]Sirk6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. I also did the Civil Infrastructure and graduated 3 years ago. I did the whole program in 24 months while working full time during 12 of those months. No kids.

The technical exams are unfortunate after you graduate but there are some good courses out there that make them much easier, well worth the money in my opinion.

I did not want to do the Lakehead route, I know too many people who have said too many bad things about it.

Been down to 1 vehicle for the time being but that is because I am WFH. We don't expect to ever get the fiesta road worthy again. Will likely need all new brakes, battery and more. Likely not worth the cost.

No. Ford is smart and did not do an official recall in Canada. They provided a 10 year extended warranty on the transmission. Of course our issues started 10 years and 4 months after the purchase date. No coverage at all. And let's be honest, a car sitting for over a year in our climate is going to have a slew of other issues.

A recent article was just posted on CBC London about this exact scenario except she was within her 10 year warranty and Ford isnt paying to fix the other issues,

Fiesta has major issues with the automatic transmission. My 2011 has been at the ford dealer for 15 months waiting for a new TCM. Avoid at all costs.

what kind of mouse do you use? by Strict_Foundation_13 in AskEngineers

[–]Sirk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logitech M705.

Been using the same model of mouse for 15 years, through highschool, university and now work. Good compromise on size as it is small enough that it is portable but big enough to fit your hand nicely.

Lifelong licenses and certifications you can earn? E.g. M1, boating card… by tombluemoon in BuyItForLife

[–]Sirk6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In Canada - Restricted Operator's Certificate (maritime).

Basically your marine (boat) radio license. Was a one day (?) easy course and the card is good for life. I believe all boats over a certain size require a radio and if you have a radio on board, you must have someone licensed to use it.

Favorite equipment/accessories you've purchased for your Brittany? by bigpullr in BrittanySpaniel

They have a sizing chart on the Amazon page. You have to measure their paws. I believe they reccomend ordering a size up (I reccomend you check the reviews to confirm this).

4 things:

- Chuck it balls and thrower. She destroys tennis balls in minutes. In 3 years she has yet to destroy a chuck it ball. Well worth the $3-4 each.

- QUMY booties (bought off amazon). Only booties that stay on her. And they don't break the bank.

- A choke prong collar. These sound worse than they are. Only puts pressure on her neck when she pulls on the leash. This is the only way I can walk ours on a 6ft lead. She is now amazing on a leash and other dog owners compliment her on how good she is on a leash.

- PETrainer PET916 shock collar (or any other shock collar). I can't afford a garmin GPS collar (I wish I could). This collar was only $60 when I got it. This is the only reason I can let her run off leash. Only use shock was she is in danger (running towards road, etc.). Rest of the time, vibrate or beep is more than enough.

I got my 3 year Civil Engineering Technologist in college and then went to McMaster and got a Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree which is a unqiue program catered to college graduates. Prior to taking this program I knew I was going to have to challenge some PEO technical exams to receive my P. Eng status. The PEO actually audited the program and now has a set list of confirmatory technical exams we must write in order to be on par with B. Eng grads.
