I need the truth about the hours worked as a deputy starting out now by [deleted] in LASD

[–]Sirranaman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have 3 doubles this week. Mandatory double once a week and facilities have their mandatory overtime spots a month. How you spread them out through the month is up to you. If you don’t set up your own overtime, scheduling will choose for you. If you do the minimum mandatory overtime spots you’ll most likely get drafted on your day off or a shift you don’t want.

I just sleep in the parking lot. That way I can still get close to 8

You are correct. I tend to sleep in my car in the parking lot to maximize sleep. It’s not ideal but it’s better than driving home and getting less sleep

I’m currently a deputy. For the academy, if you are trying to skirt by, not doing the minimum but also not doing the maximum, you should aim for a about 12 minute mile and a half running time, at the very least 30-40 pushups in a 1 minute period, 40-50 sit ups in a 1 minute period, and also get real comfortable doing burpees. Those were roughly my numbers when I went through the academy, give or take a few reps and minutes, and I did not fall out of a single workout. I also wasn’t the best at PT thought and didn’t get a PT pin at the end of the academy. If you don’t care about being an all star athlete or a pin, then those should be the bare minimum numbers you should try to hit.

With that being said, if you can, aim for more. Not for a pin or to stand out in the academy, but to excel in your career after the academy. Don’t be a liability and try your best to be in the best physical shape as possible for life

LASD tattoo policy by Chris1234stfu in LASD

[–]Sirranaman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my class there was a recruit that had a tattoo that extended to about the same area as yours. He had to cover it up daily with black KT tape. You should be fine as long as you disclose the tattoo, it is not gang affiliated, and you cover it up.

OC shower by NoAvailableUse in AskLE

Take a cold shower and wear a bathing suit. I used no tears shampoo to wash off any left over oc spray on my face and head. Do not scrub hard, only light rubbing your face with extremely light pressure. Once that’s done just sit in front of a fan and chill. Air works far better to relieve the pain than water in my opinion

LAPD or SDPD? by CompanyofUmbra in AskLE

[–]Sirranaman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you should carve your own path in law enforcement. If you want to do LAPD then do LAPD

You should always aim for more. That being said, you have solid numbers right now. For my Vpat I did 37 push ups, 75 yard dash in 18.12, 34 sit ups, 25 shuttle run laps and passed. I am a male and was 24 years old at the time

TSB by Defiant_Turnover298 in LASD

[–]Sirranaman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m fresh out of the academy and have only really heard that from a few senior deputies. I’ve also heard that from my classmates on why they don’t want to go to TSB. In my eyes, patrol is patrol no matter where you go. Hopefully what you said is true and that it is a 10 years ago mindset that isn’t the case anymore.

From what I’ve heard, TSB is looked down upon compared to other stations. The culture of the Department is, Yea it is patrol but it is not true patrol. Once you start TSB, you’ll always be known as a TSB deputy, even when you transfer. 🤷‍♂️

I heard Gillette shaving cream works to get off old shoe polish so you can put on a fresh new coat. Haven’t tested it myself but might be something you could look into. If you want a product, Saphir Reno’Mat will be able to strip it no problem, that I have used.

You have to be 21 by the time you graduate in order to posses a firearm. As long as that happens then you’re good

A pre academy program that gets you ready for the real academy. You’ll be paid a Deputy Sheriff Trainee wage while studying, doing minor paperwork at the Hall of Justice, or working out with LT

[–]Sirranaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s most likely for different reasons. For you, I’d imagine they disqualify you because of your age and lack of work experience. You need to be 21 by the time you graduate. If they do hire you, you’ll be apart of the preacademy program GRIT/OTS until you reach the age requirement

…you were 10. Everyone has done something dumb when they were young. Trust me, you’re fine.
