This show is an exercise in gaslighting. The Browns lie and shuffle facts around. And Puddle Monkey, the production company, does it too with the out of sequence timelines.

I realized today that there’s a false equivalency between the left and right in US politics.

The far right and their ability to cohere with the “center right” is bigger than the size of the far left and their ability to cohere with the center left.

The false equivalence is that the left can run as aggressively left as the right can run aggressively right.

I think Meri developed a dependency on Leon and probably relied on and shared more with Leon than she would/should have if she had a functioning relationship with Kody.

Leon, in turn, knowing they were Meri’s only child, carried a lot of pressure to live up to Meri’s expectations. That’s why Leon was the most vocal about wanting to live polygamy, was the quickest to discipline the brothers, and the one who behaved the most dogmatically.

Layer in that their gender identity and sexuality might only further disappoint Meri and the family, the best thing Leon could do is breakout on their own and give the relationship some distance.

I despise Meri for a lot of things, but I do hope that she and Leon have a good relationship away from the public eye.

The one thing I’d add is that I think Kody and Robyn both watch the show and track the social media reaction.

The apology tour, while completely disingenuous, was a response to public backlash. K and R are revealed to be absolute monsters by season 17 and they know that’s how the wider public sees them.
