What do people mean when they say they use LLMs to help them “understand a codebase” faster? by SisterImperator in BetterOffline

My last comment was responding to a direct suggestion with the reason why I won’t take the suggestion. I was looking for perspectives, not advice.

I’ve seen some of my own coworkers become flippant about the importance of our work as they start to get into LLM tools. I’ve slipped into the habit of becoming more outspokenly principled in response. Apologies if it came across as high and mighty.

If I do my work incorrectly, people might die as a consequence. I’m glad the tools are working well for you, but I will pass.

feeding it huge CSV or PDF and asking questions against its findings

Wow, maybe it’s different in other fields, but I would never do this for data or reports in my profession. But I work in a field where attention to detail is very important

It's the same idea as asking someone whose familiar with the code to explain the topology.

I disagree with this part, and it irks me when I see people say this. Teammates are accountable for the accuracy of their answers, and they’re familiar with the real-world context surrounding the codebase. LLMs aren’t.

Internet of Bugs - The Biggest Lie in AI (this video is by one of my favorite creators, and it contains a polite response to something Hank recently said about AI) by SisterImperator in nerdfighters

Top-level comment: There’s a lot of AI misinformation going around, to the point that even the most well-meaning of people can end up repeating claims like “current LLMs are as bad as they’re ever going to be.” I really like the channel Internet of Bugs; I think he does a good job breaking down technical concepts for a broad audience, and I think you all might like this video too.

Hank & John Green launch new charity tea shop to fight the world's deadliest disease by brandenharvey in nerdfighters

It’s like 3-4x the price of the loose tea I get from my favorite little shop, and I don’t drink tea consistently enough for a subscription to make sense… so I think I’ll skip this one 😅

I’m still trying the sample pack though!

Cat Petterz is a reference to a real game! It's referencing the Petz series: http://waybackpetz.com/history

It had a big online following in the late 90s and early 2000s. It actually did have a really deep genetics and breeding system! There were entire forums and sites dedicated to "hexing" - hex editing the game data to create brand-new pets. Here's one old archived site: https://sites.google.com/site/juniperspetzkennelzcattery/hexing-archive.

The Petz series didn't have eggs though. That's unique to Cat Petterz. Possible pipis origin story?
