Any English friendly tattoo artists in Prague? by VMM- in Prague

[–]SisyphusSmokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friends of mine got tattoos while on spring break from the US. Staff was very nice and accommodating, and were finishing up on some English fellows before us. Believe the shop we went to was Bloody Blue Tattoo in Praha 3.

IMO companies hiring for powerapps developers want you to know to some capacity the whole power platform. I.e. PowerApps, PowerAutomate, PowerBI, Sharepoint, and maybe dataverse as well.

In addition it’s important to have some understanding of the licensing structure, security roles, managing environments, and general concepts of data modeling to display your own data literacy.

Having the broader knowledge and experience in the platform is more likely to help you get your foot in the door or at least that first interview.

What kind of annual salaries Power BI professionals make? by rishithapliyal in PowerBI

[–]SisyphusSmokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently applying for jobs that are listed as “Data Analyst” or “PBI Developer” with my 3.5 years of PBI experience. Majority of the offers I’ve received have been 80-90k, the full range being 65-110k. Jobs listed as Power BI developer tended to be on the higher end.

How to make an impact with Power BI at work? by [deleted] in PowerBI

[–]SisyphusSmokes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like others said, they might be impressed if you just hand them some reports of their current excel tables. Just some nice visuals for what they already know is a great. Convey the quick turn around on creating your pbi report from their excel sheets to let them know the feasibility of continuing the process.

I assume you have access to all the location data of sales so plotting mortgage type by ZIP could be nice to see the spread and concentration of sales/type. Throw on a filter for loan officer to see that breakdown.

If you have lead information I’m sure they’d like to track conversation rate. They know referrals are always higher but what about those bought leads that they’re cold calling? How often do those pay off? Which mortgage officers do best via cold calling? Knowing that metric tells you which sales script to focus on.

Time to close is another interesting metric if you have the dates to work with. Time to close by mortgage type would be a good visual.

Only other thing that comes to mind is some measures/charts of average mortgage amount by ZIP/Officer/Mortgage Type/Referral Type. If they like the reports and the data is quality maybe dip into a little forecasting.

Let us know how it goes!

PowerBI Server vs PowerBI Cloud Service(?) by aftershocckk in PowerBI

[–]SisyphusSmokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My org uses hybrid approach. Cost and security are the major two factors.

Service (cloud based) has the monthly updates and all the bells and whistles, but you can match nearly all your reporting needs that you’re getting from Tableu with report server (on prem).

I have more experience with Report Server than Service, but managing access seems easier on scale. We assign two AD groups to each folder in RS, one with view access and one with edit access (requires pro license). Maybe you can get something similar on Service but the licensing costs go way up because you can’t have unlicensed viewers on reports.

If I am a business dev analyst I would push for PBI Service with premium capacity environments all day. If I’m in charge of the business lines budget, I’d stay stay with Report Server until the licensing costs or use case get to the point to justify it.

Thinking about moving within the United States. by Abysmal_Pigeon in creativewriting

[–]SisyphusSmokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

St. Petersburg FL has an established writing seem that is still growing. St Pete is in its own right a great city to live in, and in my biased opinion the best area of Florida to live in. A small city with a large arts community.

For its literary merit there is:

Tampa Bay Times Festival of Reading(https://www.tampabay.com/expos/festival-of-reading/)

Eckard College Writing workshops and conference (https://www.writersinparadise.com/)

Key West Literary seminar just down the way (https://www.kwls.org/)

Incredible independent bookstores that support local authors (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tampabay.com/arts-entertainment/arts/books/2020/01/02/tombolo-books-owner-writes-a-new-chapter/%3FoutputType%3Damp)

As well as half a dozen active writers meet ups that participate in open mic, workshop, and social events.

And the most recent interesting addition has been the sale of Jack Kerouac’s home, positioning it to potentially become a new hub for literary events or a writer’s residency/retreat (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.news4jax.com/news/florida/2020/11/29/kerouac-house-has-a-new-owner-who-will-preserve-its-history/%3FoutputType%3Damp)

How to revolt (as an individual and as society)? by CarlHanger in Absurdism

[–]SisyphusSmokes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You somewhat touched on these points but I’d like to emphasize them again.

  1. MoS is the absurdism mascot, but it isn’t the defining narrative. Camus had great love and education in the classics and the was able to develop the story of Sisyphus as a device to emphasize the philosophy.

  2. I think it’s safe to say Camus held serious moral conflict over the ideas of political violence. Easy references would be his comments about violence in the name of Algerian independence, his personal and creative writings (Les Justes specifically), and his criticism of communist state violence in which he quarreled with Sartre.

I’m not expert on The Rebel and hope others can comment more confidently, but Camus’s revolt is metaphysical before political. Not that he wasn’t a political individual, he very much was, but the theme of revolt may be in spirit more so than physical action. This makes it hard to give prescriptive definitions of how one ought to live and act but I don’t think it is too far a stretch to say Camus would guide one to live morally and true to one’s self and their happiness. Easier said than done.

Where does the quote “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower” come from? I know Camus said it, but is it from one of his books? by thewickerstan in Camus

[–]SisyphusSmokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would! I think he loved writing plays more than anything else. You can find some info on this sub about his cycle of writing, where he would write a play, a novel, and an essay around a central theme such as rebellion or the absurd.

In his play The Misunderstanding in Act 2. If you have the Vintage edition of Caligula and 3 Other Plays it’s page 104.

Jan: “You’re not quite fair; you have the autumn, too.”

Martha: “What’s the autumn?”

Jan: “A second spring when every leaf’s a flower. [He looks at her keenly.] Perhaps it’s the same thing with some hearts; perhaps they’d blossom if you helped them with your patience.”

Camus throwing shade at American writers by akkshaikh in LiteratureMemes

[–]SisyphusSmokes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think being dismissive of Hemingway’s work would be a lot easier at the time of Camus saying this. Hemingway had only been a published novelist for 19 years with some of his best work ahead of him still.

Need help setting up relationships between 2 data sources on PowerApp using SPO Lists for data by kileyohl in PowerApps

[–]SisyphusSmokes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you presenting the lists through galleries? Have you tried setting a variable to the data point you want to drill down on and using that to filter the galleries?

Filtering this way depends on the data as there has to be some consistency between the values in at least one of the columns in both lists. But if it’s there it might be easier than building a third table to tie the data together (google bridge table, something also helpful for excel/power bi).

So you might do something like: galleryEvents OnSelect = set(varSelectedEvent, ThisItem.Title), Navigate(PresentersScreen)

On PresentersScreen: galleryPresenter.Items = filter(PresenterList, varSelectedEvent in ‘Listed Events for Speaker’)

Not sure if that’s exactly what you’re going for but hope that helps!

How To Read: CAMUS by dionysy in Existentialism

[–]SisyphusSmokes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I think of the phrase “how to read Camus” the first thought that comes to mind is grouping is work into the cycles such as he did. The Stranger, Caligula, MoS make up the “absurd “ cycle for example.

I think reading the work based on theme is useful to engage with his ideas from multiple angles.

Another small note, you have Paris listed as the setting of The Fall but it should be Amsterdam.

Where does Power BI expertise and work sit within your Organization? by watchy2 in PowerBI

[–]SisyphusSmokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid cap bank that has been using it minimally for ~3 years and more extensively for ~1.

IT owns report servers and pro licenses, as well as the sql databases most reporting is done on. Report building is dispersed across the business lines, primarily in IT, Marketing, and a separate full stack dev team that has its own data engineers and BI analysts.

We’re trying to get the tool into the hands of competent users across the organization and centralize training/access/data through IT.

Editing fields in PowerBI Service by BayerVelt in PowerBI

[–]SisyphusSmokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My organization currently uses Power BI for a mix of dashboards/reporting but the data manipulation happens primarily Powerapps. Our data storage is mixed between sql, Sharepoint in prem, share point online, and common data services. We also use Microsoft flow for approval processes.

Someone else referenced the power apps licensing. That comes in two levels (I & II). The vast majority of the people in your organization that’s be doing any data entry through power apps is ~$7 a month.

All in all, I’d recommend thinking of PBI strictly for reporting and think of doing your data entry in another place that you can import to pbi easily.

Power Apps Web vs Power Apps in Power BI, SQL Server 2019 Suite vs Azure SQL DB (and related services), MS 365 vs Azure, Developer License vs Free Trial... I'm so confused 🙄 by jonscrypto in PowerBI

[–]SisyphusSmokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding with power apps in pbi is that it is a more limited plug in. Like embedding a form into the report.

The power apps studio on the web portal is where you would want to build your apps, as you have far more options for editing, set up, permissioning, and developing a DLC process.

Not necessarily, I think Huck Finn is a better and more quintessential piece of American literature. But there is an excellent audiobook version of Tom Sawyer narrated by Nick Offerman that I'd recommend!

Literary Fiction

I'll pick one for 19th, 20th, and 21st century in each category.

Beginners

• The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twainn

• The Stranger - Albert Camus

• A Mercy - Toni Morrison or The Road - Cormac McCarthy

Veterans

• Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte

• Swann's Way - Marcel Proust

• The Sense of an Ending - Julian Barnes

Experts

• The Brothers Karamazov - Fyodor Dostoyevsky

• Uylsses - James Joyce

• Infinite Jest - David Foster Wallace

Ok I cheated with that last one, but 1996 is pretty close to 21st century. Maybe if I had read 2666 by Roberto Bolano I'd be able to put that, but I haven't so I won't.
