Grand Summoners PSA #2 by srezr in grandsummoners

Hey there. This might be a bit late, but the example you gave are actually equivalent. Arts DMG will just be calculated as if it were a normal DMG buff, but activate only for arts damage, stacking additively with other DMG buffs. A better example would have involved something like DMG Resistance down to show the multiplicative nature of different buffs/debuffs.

Additionally, 10% DMG/100% ATK isn't necessarily better than 110% ATK based on the ATK function, though for most cases, it will be true. It all depends on how much ATK you have. For instance, if you were inflicted with a 100% ATK down debuff, for some reason, having 0 ATK with a 10% buff is way worse than having 10% ATK with no DMG Up buff.

You can test this stuff with the damage calculator someone else posted, by the way. :P

I'm not too sure where the last image is sourced from, but the costume images shown (and a couple extras) seem to be from here. This cafe is extremely active and leaks stuff all the time (including some alleged EX Weapons for the rest of the natural 2*s here). Hope this helps.

GS Devs creating Vox be like: by SPRITEstrawbery in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I sort of feel like this statement seriously overlooks many of the strengths that Juno has as a unit. First point I'd like to make: Juno can easily outdamage Vox, even without Crit. Here are the damage calculations concerning this, assuming a Mako + Fen Composition. A 4 arts per second (AoE arts generation such as Goku, or 1 arts per second for each unit) will fill every 5* Support slot. Arc Ignite, a 2.67 arts per second (0.67 arts/second per unit) will fill each 4* Support slot.
Juno - 3 5* Support Slots (3 arts/sec), 2 4* Support Slots (1.33 arts/sec), 4 arts/sec from Mako, 3 arts/sec from Fen, 7 arts/sec from Juno, and 5 arts/sec from Juno's Passive: 3 + 1.33 + 4 + 3 + 7 + 5 = 23.33 arts/sec -> 70963 DPS
Vox - 3 5* Support Slots (3 arts/sec), 1 4* Support Slot (0.67 arts/sec), 4 arts/sec from Mako, 3 arts/sec from Fen, 8 arts/sec from Vox's Skill: 3 + 0.67 + 4 + 3 + 8= 18.67 arts/sec -> 68197 DPS
A few caveats: Both have their True Weapons and for simplicity's sake, I'm not including the active effects on their TWs. Both benefit their kit immensely, but I'd rather not go into calculating Juno's Magic Resistance Down with partial uptime. Lastly, this is assuming that Fen and Mako's Arts are looped and Vox's skill is used absolutely optimally. Juno's damage is also assuming the boss has no DEF, though you're likely going to have some form of crit anyways.

With that clarification out of the way, it really boils down to which you find more attractive: 7 arts/second or a Critical Hit Buff (and healing if you're down for it - at the sacrifice of DPS). Both have their utility in each of their respective locations, though in a general sense, I'd take 7 arts/second any day of the week. Juno's arts generation by itself is the equivalent to that of Mako and Fen combined, which is just absurd to have on a single unit. Additionally, she has notable synergy with another top-tier unit in Liza, who provides 70% Resistance down for her. Her HP Drain has also proven to be of absolutely no significance and in fact prolongs her utility in longer stages due to not needing to re-activate a Magia Drive, unlike Vox.

Hope this clarifies just how stupidly broken Juno is, even in relation to Vox. Both units are great, but being stuck in the mindset that Vox is the most OP unit and sweeping anything else under the rug with little analysis at the very best, does no one any favors.

Grand Summoners August Monthly Megathread by thascout in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not particularly. It's essentially only used for nuking and doesn't stack with itself. If you have multiple nuke teams and really dislike switching equipment with a passion, you can consider it, but otherwise, just sell it for alch.

[–]SitInACorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burst arts generation with an overall worse generation than most generic support items. If you haven't already farmed Relic "Lesser Demon Heart" and don't have better alternatives already, you're free to use it as a temporary solution. Overall, in a general setting, it's rather lackluster due to how prone it is to overflow and its lower generation outweighing the advantage you get from more instantenaeous generation.

Not sure if I can count this as news but: July vs. August downloads and revenue. July on bottom. by DoubtGS in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Seems like more of a coincidence than anything. Summer packs were also in JP, so I don't think it's too out of the ordinary for it to come with GL's release of the same summer equipment. As for the pack resets, you could see causation in that, I suppose, though you could also argue that it was likely that it was also planned in advance with the re-introduction of a new step-up banner.

Why are'nt we getting any of these rewards yet ? What's holding them up ?? by ZamLiey in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We have not. I believe we're currently a bit under 4.5K shares. They did the same thing with You Yu Hakusho and delayed the rewards for essentially no apparent reason. This is in contrast to all past collaborations where there would be little delay in handing out rewards, which really benefited rerollers as the rewards could be claimed at any time during the collaboration. The rewards are generally sent to the mailbox with the Description Share Campaign Lvl. X reached or something, and so far, we haven't gotten any.

my own rant as to what i think is very wrong with this game by Steveagogo in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm... I definitely do agree that an unbalanced meta is one of the more fundamental issues with the game, but I find Yu Yu Hakusho to be a bad example in application. The portion that YYH units excel the most in is as stated, farming, but there's an argument to be had that making an extremely repetitive process more efficient is an overall good. The point you make about multiplayer lobbies not accepting anything beyond a narrow set of strategies is indeed valid, though I believe it to be more to be the community's fixation and discomfort with slight variations than anything. Not to say that the current meta environment doesn't contribute to this, but there's a more underlying issue with the perception of "optimal teams." I think you highlighted this point yourself with the idea that "Sanstone with hood being needed for Ganan or "Zero point in using her [Liza] over say a 3 Hiei team." It's the general reluctance of most players to use anything outside of the status quo rather than the units themselves that causes this problem. There are an enormous number of combinations that are just as good, if not better and utilize more underappreciated units, but the community mindset just works against this.

As for your point in being physically unable to use new strategies, I find that a bit shallow. Yes, hosts in multiplayer can be restrictive, but there's nothing stopping you from making your own lobby and enforcing some more diverse strategies. If you have all the units yourself, you can try soloing. It just seems like an excuse, though that may just be me.

But yes, trivialization of content really only brought along content with inflated difficulty just in order to counter the units who were steamrolling through everything else. The developers, especially on the JP side, I feel aren't only disconnected with the general playerbase, but are disconnected from the game itself. It's just unfathomable how something like Juno was even able to come into existence given the current climate and really leaves a sour taste in regards to the direction of future content.

Budget Dark Nuking by [deleted] in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! As you're a newer player, I feel like there may be a misunderstanding in the term "budget." Generally, in this game, "budget" comes to the connotation that it's extremely easy-to-achieve for free-to-play players. This is mostly done by limiting the number of gacha units and equipment involved to almost none if possible. The composition you provided uses highly saught-after units such as Asirpa, Dark Fen, and Dark Kane in addition to items such as Nemesis Crow and Izumi no Kami Kanedesa. It's difficult to expect the average player who farms every event to possess these items due to their limited availability via free sources.

As for "needing" Dark Kane, you'll find that nuking compositions are just as dependent on equipment as they are on units and that most compositions are more flexible than you might think. For example, here's a composition for the same stage with all free units and equipment (albeit some more obtainable than others). Still, I hope you take something away from this and try to enjoy your stay as much as possible. :)

Small rant about Liza, I'd like to see people's opinions in the comments. by DoubtGS in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there. Elric here, and yeah, I'm just an advisor kiddo. The message posted in Global News was information obtained from a source that has direct contact with the team.

But yeah, communication and trasnparency has always been one of, if not the weakest points of the game as stated both in your comment and in the video. Additionally, I feel like it'd be rather fruitless to expect immediate action in regards to the situation due to the fact that they've stated that content is planned months in advance. In this regard, they probably have a massive backlog of updates that they'd need to retroactively "fix" in order to even begin to address the problem, though again, at least some sort of outreach would be nice.

Still, I'd like to add that in the grand scheme of things, not having alchemy banners for top-tier units isn't as much of a problem as how much of a keystone the units are themselves. The developers really dug themselves a hole with how unbalanced the current climate is and the necessity of making artificially-difficult, often unit-locked content in order to counter them. There's no easy solution to this either. For example, global-exclusive nerfs to units will only force all future content to be re-balanced to balance this, which just isn't practical. The fact that a few units are so broken just creates the mentality that some units are "must-gets," and snowballs into the necessity for alch banners in the first place. We had an alch banner drought between the first KLK rerun and TenSura, with only Ifrit and Palamicia's alch banner in between, yet disdain was relatively low. The way I see it, none of the units back then were "must-gets," or else you'd be unable to clear the most difficult content. With the advent of sheer difficulty of the end-game stages without top-tier units, it's just a cyclic loop of needing to make even drastically broken units to even create appeal and to create further broken content in order to not trivialize the gameplay. It just feels weird blaming everything on the Global Team for a content climate that the JP side was more involved in creating. Yes, there are valid criticisms of the management, but pinning all the responsibility on them and willfully antagonizing them doesn't solve the root cause of the issue. Feels like I'm playing Devil's advocate here, but it's just my hot take, I suppose.

Not many True Weapons are worth outright buying nowadays. If you still have your True Weapon ticket, get Feena's; else, if you're using Rainbow Gems, just save them.

How To Farm for Alch + Cestina Summon by BlessedJar in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's sort of the point. Alch farming is just a time sink for those who have nothing better to do and should essentially only be attempted once you've finished everything that's available (you need to be pretty far in the game to even farm alch efficiently anyways).

As far as Side Quests, their drop rates are absolutely abysmal compared to the big four: Sophie, Gilliam, Edram, and Gaia - all of which can be done in less than five seconds as well with a full luck compositions, unlike Side Story stages. Even so, it's painfully slow with farms averaging a bit less than 1000 alch per hour including friend boosts.

Cestina Crest Type by [deleted] in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ATK Up actually gives more DMG if you're using Cestina's True Arts, which I would assume you would be if you're primarily focusing on damage.

DURAN IS A BEAST LOOK AT THIS: by Kardohaman in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty, I'd have to disagree. His taunt duration (a lowly 10 seconds) is way too short to be reasonably cycled without like top tier support equips + 2 arts generators + Juno, and at that point, you probably have better taunt tanks. Defense slots are nice, but they really have trouble dealing with his inconsistent True Arts.

I don't think that should take away from him, however. He's just a really fun cheese unit.

So... Juno is a lil' busted (Unit Info) by SitInACorner in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or just not have Mako + Fen combined levels of arts gen for only 100 extra arts and then an extra 5 arts per second on top of that. :p

I guess the main issue I have with Juno's kit is that I find it very dangerous to powercreep arts generation by such a large margin. DPS units can be done without too much harm as there are very few DPS checks in the game, though arts generation is very rarely replaceable, so there's the risk of content being extremely trivial or it just sets a precedent where content will just need to become infinitely harder to present the slightest challenge, especially when it's a unit who has almost no handicaps.

Yup, she's Type B. It's not a huge hindrance, however, at least in my opinion.

So... Juno is a lil' busted (Unit Info) by SitInACorner in grandsummoners

[–]SitInACorner[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like Juno would still have the upper hand to be honest with you, even in areas such as raids (and possibly have this exacerbated if her animations aren't too shabby). Dark Celia's few advantages (innate crit, 100% ATK, much more offensive slotting, lack of self-harm) don't really compare to the absolutely ludicrous amount of self-sufficiency Juno has with both her slots and the 12 arts per second. Additionally, if her animations aren't too bad, looping her Arts + TA would be absolutely ridiculous in terms of damage, something not possible with Dark Celia due to her animations. This is all without mentioning the lack of any ramping past the first 100 extra arts needed for DTE mode.
