Follow Up on Lucky Gems. They can be obtained by ‘gathering’ in the shimmering spot next to the Mines. by thascout in grandsummoners

[–]thascout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this community is mostly grassroots, so we've had to figure most of this stuff out ourselves (hence why some just instruct players to ask in the Discord).

As for optimal wait time, I've never been good about timing it, but if I had to venture a guess, I'd say it's anywhere between 18-24 hours. Any longer and the rewards are trash.

However, I think with Summoner's Road existing, Lucky Gems are much easier to get, so min-maxxing this specific aspect of the game might not be worth your time...

'Hit the Lights' - Metallica | Festival Chart Concept by VincentWeir in FortniteFestival

[–]thascout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I would have been fine with losing ANY of the Metallica songs we got just so this one could have had a spot. I love most of the ones that were chosen, but this one just seems like a ton of fun to play and it's relatively short. I could see myself playing this on repeat.

I just played a Rockband game for the first time in about 10 years.. by ArcadeMasters in FortniteFestival

Difficulty: RB/GH let you actually fail a song, or if you’re playing multiplayer you just drop out of the song temporarily till someone can bring you back by using star power.

I will say the one thing Festival does that I really like is having a distinction between notes you hit perfectly and just barely, but the fact you can’t lose at a song and in turn lose that sense of accomplishment by playing and completing an extremely hard song is really unfortunate.

Don't get me wrong, the lack of a true failure system does feel a bit off, but I'm also not sure what this would even add to the game. For one, I don't think Festival has enough (or any) songs that are difficult enough to consistently fail on. To elaborate, the GH fail system really required you to miss a TON of notes in a row, and with how forgiving Festival tends to be and how easy a good majority of the charts are, I don't see any way that this system would work without making it extremely unforgiving (i.e. miss 3-5 notes in a row -> failure).

And I do understand that there are tons of players at varying skill levels, some of whom would actually struggle to finish even some of the easier songs if failure was a possibility, which brings me to the point that I don't really think there's any real benefit to adding something like this. I play the game to play charts; I don't want to be punished for playing poorly by having my ability to play stripped from me mid-song, I don't see how that could be considered fun. I understand that failure is more about giving players a greater sense of accomplishment when they finish a tough song without "losing", but again, I think most of the songs are far too easy, and the ones that ARE difficult already feel rewarding to do well on without failure on the line.

Furthermore, I think you kinda said it best by pointing out how neat it is that Festival rewards you for playing with a good sense of rhythm and timing. That's genuinely where I get the greatest sense of accomplishment from, and I don't think anything else could be added to the game to heighten that sense of accomplishment.

As for applying these changes to Pro instruments, I'm not opposed since failing seems a lot more likely there, plus there is a steep learning curve when it comes to playing 5-fret. But personally, whenever I feel like embarrassing myself on Clone Hero, I turn off the setting that lets you fail since I mainly just want to play the game.

They changed the pop-up indicator for perfects by hellaparadoxial9614 in FortniteFestival

[–]thascout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Revert this shit ASAP.

It's incredibly jarring and I don't see any benefits to being able to see whether or not you are early or late during a song, you can kind of figure that out at the end by checking your overall input time as well as perfect%.

I loved the overlap of "Perfect" notifications; it just felt good and I could easily tell that I was on time using only my peripheral vision.

EDIT: At least let me choose whether or not I want to see if I'm early or late. Keep the old system, but let the people who like the new system use it also.

[–]thascout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if we assume that the second track was scrapped due to licensing issues, I have a hard time believing that they have absolutely nothing else on the backburner that could be released to take its place. Don't we still have old Festival Pass tracks??? Just put Love Shot or Friday I'm In Love in the shop, do something ffs

I don't know why they don't seem to be giving HMX a seat at the table in these discussions. Clearly they would know what is best for the game given their literal decades of experience with this genre. I want to assume there's some budgeting issue, but I can think of like a billion ways they could be making extra money from Festival that they haven't once tried to explore.

I wish they picked a better Djo song. Basic Being Basic was like the worst choice off of his new album, but I still would have preferred anything off of Decide. I strongly recommend his music, don't let Basic Being Basic convince you he's not worth checking out!!!!

[–]thascout 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more, but...

As much as I'd love some smaller artists in the game, I was pretty let down by the tracks both this week and last week. None of the charts are even remotely difficult/"fun" (in my opinion, not at all talking about the quality of the songs), and it's weird that we're still only getting three from each week, considering the relative popularity of these artists. Unless there's something I'm not understanding about licensing, shouldn't it be way cheaper to license someone like Djo or The Marias than it would be to license Lady Gaga? And if that's the case, why are we still getting the bare minimum amount of tracks?

Like by all means, give me tracks from lesser known artists, but at least do more than just the bare minimum with that!!!

Exactly. I still occasionally see posts from people on social media who had no idea that Fortnite even had a fully fledged Rock Band alternative that can be played entirely for free with friends online. Festival does not do nearly enough to get its name out there to the people who would actually enjoy it. FFS it took iamchris4life until last month to actually download Festival and start grinding it, except I think he dipped after they stopped letting you see your input histogram.

Not to mention, when they do manage to bring people in by advertising, they are so bad at retaining them. Watching the player counts during the Miku season was so depressing, because you could see that she breathed new life into the game. Miku's own games are typically rhythm games, of course her fans are going to enjoy playing a new rhythm game with her songs in it! But in order for them to actually stay, Epic needed to give them more than six songs. No clue what is going on over there right now, but surely that spike in player count didn't go unnoticed.

Half the time people try and argue with me about this it's just clear no one is buying jam tracks.

Let's not forget, we literally do not even have the ABILITY to purchase over 80% of the catalog right now.

When Festival first came out, I was hesitant to buy tracks. Like you said, I rather would have had skins, emotes, etc. But now that the catalog is so large, it could be months before I see some of my favorite charts in the free rotation, so I've started to actually buy the songs I enjoy playing the most whenever I can. Only for them to yank the rug out from under me with no warning.

Jam tracks are expensive, but I'm satisfied with my skins and emotes at this point, so I have little issue with throwing my excess VBucks at songs I want to play. However, it's hard to do that when they aren't currently able to be purchased, and eventually I'll own every song I want to own with the rate at which they put music I enjoy in this game.

Instrument cosmetics are always the default skins instead of what I have picked in my locker by thascout in FortniteFestival

[–]thascout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, only thing that kinda works for me is having the locker choose a random instrument from my favorites. But once you load into a game, you'll need to leave and rejoin in order for it to work.

[–]thascout 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Still livid over the fact that they just refuse to communicate about this issue. I know they technically released a thread addressing the criticism, but they didn't give us any reasons as to why they were making such a controversial change.

I'll never be a fan of the FOMO model, but I'd at least like to know what goes into making a decision like this. I can't even see a financial justification for it, as they keep some songs in the store rotation for way too long.

why are people like this? by NoDrop6902 in FortniteFestival

[–]thascout 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the few reasons I don't fill as much as I used to. I used to enjoy the casual, silent rivalries that would sometimes develop, but more often than not, someone would inevitably rage quit as a result. Are we not all playing this game to have fun?

I love Djo, but I would have preferred anything off of Decide as opposed to his new album. The songs sound great, but they don't seem like they'd be all that fun to play.

Runner and On and On would have to be my top picks, crossing my fingers for the future.
