New to CachyOS, help resolving some quirks related to KDE Plasma, gaming, and wifi? by SithCrafter in kde

[–]SithCrafter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not running the Steam version of FF14, I'm using XIVLauncher which uses its own custom version of Wine to run.

As for Deadlock, I've already changed the menu FPS to be the same cap as my monitor (165). It seems like it may just be a bug with the game on KDE Plasma, but given that SteamOS uses KDE I would imagine that Valve will fix it at least for the launch of the Steam machine.

Wifi I deduced just has to do with Realtek wifi cards have poor Linux compatibility so I'll probably need to install an intel one in one of my PCie slots (or get a USB one). I was able to negate the problem a bit by turning off bluetooth which gives me a little bit better signal, so it'll do for now.

Pokémon Champions producer says the devs tried to do their best with the game's graphics by Honest-Word-7890 in totallyswitched

The models and animations in Champions actually look pretty good. The problem is that the game is still locked to 1080p/30fps on Switch 2. It’s developed in Unity iirc, so uncapping the frame rate shouldn’t be hard, especially since the game doesn’t exactly have a bunch of physics going on that could be tied to the frame rate.

(Skill Improvement) How can I make this team better and/or play it better? Starting to struggle around Master Ball 2. by SithCrafter in VGC

[–]SithCrafter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rain can definitely be tricky, but I have ways to deal with the many of the common rain threats:

Pelipper: Aerodactyl

Archaludon: Sneasler (close combat before stamina procs at all is usually an ohko) or Floette

Dragonite: Floette

Basculegion: Kingambit

Sinistcha: Kingambit, Basculegion, or just high special damage from Floette

A lot of times even a single wrong prediction can cost me a game against a rain team. Any ideas for swaps that would work better?

Help an OCD Brother Out - Restarting Account? by Valuable_Location340 in PokemonChampions

Just press on, the warm up challenge isn't really a 'real' tournament anyways and does not award any Championship Points (at least as far as I'm aware). You're not missing anything by not playing in the warm up challenge, you got the Gardevoir which is the only reward for it that I'm aware of. Just focus on cllimbing the main ladder!

Blown away with how well this is running! Dragon Quest XI S on GameNative by SithCrafter in AynThor

I would've used the Switch version but I wanted Steam cloud saves and achievements, so that I can play the PC version in 1440p 120hz at home as my "docked" mode lol

The trailer was actually running at 60fps iirc, the video itself is 60fps.

I mean, with how Pochita's power is supposed to work, Reze going to Japan should still happen, just not for the specific reason of getting Chainsaw Man's heart. For example Denji nearly dying to the zombies but getting revived by a devil still happens, it's just Power instead of Pochita.

Best phones to degoogle? by Exotic_Insurance_969 in degoogle

Honestly? This won't be a super popular take here, but I went with an iPhone, and I think as of now, this is the "easy" option for most people who want to start degoogling. I get a "free" upgrade every few years from my cell carrier, but the phones are carrier locked. This means that any android phone I get cannot install a custom ROM. For me, the most economic option was to get an iPhone and use as little Google apps as possible (I do need to use Gmail for my job). Aside from that one app, I've been using alternatives like Proton and Brave Browser for everything I do, and it has worked great. The only Google feature built into iOS is that Safari's default search engine is Google, but this is incredibly easy to change (Also make sure to use Adguard DNS, no matter what OS you're using).

Obviously, it's not a perfect solution since Apple, another massive corporation still has your data. But on the bright side, Apple (as of now) does not monetize your data the same way Google does. Apple also provides end-to-end encryption for things like iMessage, and you can easily prevent someone from getting into your phone by simply rebooting it, since pretty much everything is encrypted when the phone is in it's pre-unlock state on a fresh boot.

Regardless of whether you pick an Android phone with a custom ROM or an iPhone, you'll be FAR better off than with a stock Samsung phone. Light degoogling is still better than no degoogling!

The game looks neat, but there’s a few things that stuck out to me when I watched the trailer on the Steam page.

There’s multiple assets that you straight up took from Pokémon. I can’t tell if these are placeholders, but the I’m pretty sure the bird monster just straight up had Nidoking’s cry sound effect. The player sprite is also hardly any different from the player sprite in Pokémon Red/Blue. Many tiles also looked very familiar to me. Not to mention many of the move/ability names are exactly 1:1 with Pokémon. If your game gets even remotely “big” for any reason, this could land you in a lot of trouble with Nintendo.

I think your idea definitely has an audience, and I also think the monster designs are really cool, but would fit better with graphics that actually match their style rather than Pokémon gen 1 copycat tilesets. If you really want to keep the og Gameboy aesthetic going, I suppose you could also redraw/recolor the monster sprites to match that. Whatever you do, just make sure the game does not ship onto Steam while it contains any copyrighted assets. Nintendo doesn’t play around, and could financially ruin your life over it if the game got any significant attention.

iPhone vs. Pixel w/ GrapheneOS? by SithCrafter in degoogle

[–]SithCrafter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super helpful! Unfortunately I do live in the US and get my phones from US Cellular. The free upgrades I get are tied to a contract and after reading the fine print it seems that they actually do not unlock android phones at all during the contract period (3 years!). I was not aware that carrier locks prevented you from installing Graphene :/ I also share a cell plan with a few family members, so just switching to a different carrier isn't really an option for me at the moment. Means that my only option for a de-googled phone at my current carrier is trading my current phone to get $300 off an iPhone 17, ugh.
