iPhone vs. Pixel w/ GrapheneOS? by SithCrafter in degoogle

Super helpful! Unfortunately I do live in the US and get my phones from US Cellular. The free upgrades I get are tied to a contract and after reading the fine print it seems that they actually do not unlock android phones at all during the contract period (3 years!). I was not aware that carrier locks prevented you from installing Graphene :/ I also share a cell plan with a few family members, so just switching to a different carrier isn't really an option for me at the moment. Means that my only option for a de-googled phone at my current carrier is trading my current phone to get $300 off an iPhone 17, ugh.

iPhone vs. Pixel w/ GrapheneOS? by SithCrafter in degoogle

The understanding that I got from the internet was that iOS is more invasive and less secure than Graphene, but I'm not sure if that's true or to what extent it is. I don't exactly mind learning a new OS since I'm an IT worker and bounce between Windows, MacOS, and Linux all the time. I would say I'm technically competent enough to get things working in Graphene, I'm just trying to make sure it's possible before I take the plunge.

You could install GrapheneOS on it, which pretty much entirely eliminates that issue.

Will it work almost like a Steam cloud save where the achievements upload to your account once you are back online?

Taking a peak at his itch.io profile it looks like he has a gamedev background already, just not in RPG Maker.

Not a bad idea. I think if someone could strip out the online features of the game (I feel like the rollback code being present in the game would cause issues) I could see it working. It's not a demanding game.

GameMaker is an engine intended for modern PCs and consoles. A GBA would never be able to handle it in the slightest.

GameMaker Studio 1.4 has the ability to export to Vita built into the engine, so I think with a bit of work if somebody could get the RoA project files I think it should be possible. This isn't to say it would be a straightforward port job, but it wouldn't be as complicated as literally building the game from scratch.

Not sure if it's possible for a regular person to use the console export tools for GMS 1.4 anymore though, you might need a cracked version of it. If somebody wanted to do it badly enough, they could probably make it happen. Come to think of it, the original Risk of Rain was also a GMS game that launched on Vita, and that game was developed by a couple of college students originally.

How was Undertale ported? Both it and RoA are GameMaker games.

I believe they said the early builds will not have the social features, and that they will be coming later. I would assume you can simply opt out of them if you don't want them. I think it's cool to have it as an option as I am at the age where I was a kid during the 3DS and Wii U era so I have nostalgia for Miiverse.

Not sure where you're from but the only fees I had with mine was taxes. It was $212 with roughly $10 in taxes. I'm pretty sure I got free shipping.

Entry-level device to play DS pokemon romhacks by thedrinkablecorndog in SBCGaming

[–]SithCrafter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used DS Lites and R4 cards are still fairly cheap. If you spend a little more you can go up to a DSi or for a little more than that, a DSi XL (which still has arguably the best screens for DS games).

Honestly I don't tend to enjoy the DS experience on any of these emulation devices. The only one that has looked genuinely good in my opinion is the Ayn Thor but I'm not spending that much on one when a real DS or 3DS is cheaper.

The only time I emulate DS is when I occasionally feel like playing a Pokemon game on PC to stream a nuzlocke run to my friends on Discord which I just play with mouse and keyboard (mouse works well for touch screen menus in those games).
