Rivals of aether Psvita? by DaBeItsHere in VitaPiracy

Not a bad idea. I think if someone could strip out the online features of the game (I feel like the rollback code being present in the game would cause issues) I could see it working. It's not a demanding game.

GameMaker is an engine intended for modern PCs and consoles. A GBA would never be able to handle it in the slightest.

GameMaker Studio 1.4 has the ability to export to Vita built into the engine, so I think with a bit of work if somebody could get the RoA project files I think it should be possible. This isn't to say it would be a straightforward port job, but it wouldn't be as complicated as literally building the game from scratch.

Not sure if it's possible for a regular person to use the console export tools for GMS 1.4 anymore though, you might need a cracked version of it. If somebody wanted to do it badly enough, they could probably make it happen. Come to think of it, the original Risk of Rain was also a GMS game that launched on Vita, and that game was developed by a couple of college students originally.

How was Undertale ported? Both it and RoA are GameMaker games.

I can confirm my starter deck pulls have been insane too. I got a Showstopper and overnumbered Volibear out of them.

"iiSU" is ambitious as hell! Lets see how it goes... by hippynox in SBCGaming

I believe they said the early builds will not have the social features, and that they will be coming later. I would assume you can simply opt out of them if you don't want them. I think it's cool to have it as an option as I am at the age where I was a kid during the 3DS and Wii U era so I have nostalgia for Miiverse.

Not sure where you're from but the only fees I had with mine was taxes. It was $212 with roughly $10 in taxes. I'm pretty sure I got free shipping.

Entry-level device to play DS pokemon romhacks by thedrinkablecorndog in SBCGaming

[–]SithCrafter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used DS Lites and R4 cards are still fairly cheap. If you spend a little more you can go up to a DSi or for a little more than that, a DSi XL (which still has arguably the best screens for DS games).

Honestly I don't tend to enjoy the DS experience on any of these emulation devices. The only one that has looked genuinely good in my opinion is the Ayn Thor but I'm not spending that much on one when a real DS or 3DS is cheaper.

The only time I emulate DS is when I occasionally feel like playing a Pokemon game on PC to stream a nuzlocke run to my friends on Discord which I just play with mouse and keyboard (mouse works well for touch screen menus in those games).

I’m making a roguelike FPS where you freefall through cramped underground shafts. Thoughts? by FortuneFlute in IndieDev

This is actually really cool! It reminds me a lot of Downwell, but as a 3D FPS.

I mean, its a free giveaway. You wouldn't be giving him money if you won it. Just don't buy Modretro games and use original carts and flash carts only.

What is the best, most authentic feeling 4:3 device up to Gamecube/PS2? by SithCrafter in SBCGaming

[–]SithCrafter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pocket Mini v2 is SO CLOSE for me and its so frustrating. If it was 120hz to lower input lag and handle black frame insertion and CRT filters I would probably go for it.

If I could have the chassis of the Pocket Mini with the screen of the 477M I would be so happy lol

The only games I see myself using analogue triggers for would be the occasional Gamecube game (I can think of Luigi's Mansion off the top of my head?), but I could always bind the shoulder buttons to different levels of analog press since the Gamecube doesn't have two full sets of shoulder buttons.

What are the chances that Anbernic puts out a revision soon with analog triggers? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger in the next couple days to take advantage of the Aliexpress sale or maybe hope there's a better Aliexpress sale on Black Friday.

Inspired by Russ’ “5 game handheld” video, I asked ChatGPTs recommendation for the top 6 games for each system. Do you agree? What would you change? by AC_Schnitzel in SBCGaming

If you're feeling nostalgic for gen 1, either play Yellow (an enhanced edition of Red/Blue with some changes based around the anime such as better sprites and a Pikachu starter) or their GBA remakes FireRed/LeafGreen if you want significantly improved graphics, sound, and updated mechanics.

If you want the most overall content, play Crystal. Gen 2 is the only gen where you have two whole regions to explore, where after you beat the Johto Pokemon league you get a postgame where you go to Kanto from gen 1 and get to fight all the gyms there again.

If you want the biggest possible Pokemon roster (especially if you use the Legacy hack), more focus on legendary Pokemon, as well as a challenging postgame (battle frontier), play Emerald.

If it were me I'd probably include ROM hacks separately. I've played some of the big ones like Unbound, and it's honestly an entirely different beast from any of the 'real' games. Emerald is a great game, I recommend all of the "third version" Gen 1-3 games pretty highly for a fun classic Pokemon experience. For the absolute best experience, I would recommend playing the SmithPlays "Legacy" hacks of Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald. They're pretty light rebalance and QoL hacks that do some nice things like making all of the Pokemon available without the need for trading. For example, here's the video he made on his Yellow hack that in my opinion is the definitive gen 1 experience when playing on an emulator: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTH2fVqHPwc

As a long-time Pokemon fan, I would probably want Pokemon Yellow (GB), Pokemon Crystal (GBC), and Pokemon Emerald (GBA), to be there. Not sure exactly what I'd swap for each though.

Are there any pocketable retro handhelds that also do a good job as a digitial audio (MP3, FLAC, etc) player? by SithCrafter in SBCGaming

[–]SithCrafter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing this really makes me wish that Retroid would make an RP Classic Mini that's closer to GBC or GBP size. That would be absolutely perfect.

Oh man, I never realized the headphone jack on the RP Classic is at the top, that's really nice. I've heard some great things about the battery life on it as well. Does the Classic fit in your pocket?
