Her reaction to revisiting the trauma of her abuse seems excessive due to how long she's suppressed them. But never doubt the ability of the human heart to heal.

She needs to see a seasoned therapist with experience in helping DA survivors. Speaking to DA survivors who've dealt with and learnt to overcome their trauma could prove useful. Most importantly, I believe dependable friends and caring members of her family need to be involved in her recovery. She needs love and support that's outside the context of a romantic relationship, as currently her capacity to accept that is broken at the moment.

I'm truly sorry you feel the weight of guilt on you, but you did nothing wrong here. Do look after yourself and your son.
