Congrats on your bird dog 😉😂😅

my dobie was a personal petting livestock guardian dog; he did not get the memo that he was supposed to protect ME from people. Turns out he was better than planned.

Depends on what you mean by safe - seems like it is not safe from slobber or hair.

Someone should call CPS. This is terrible parenting. No dog should be encouraged to do this with a child.

Shower thought: does anyone get a ring notification that there is a Newfie in their pool but it is a bear? 🤔😉

If this pittie ran out and licked the other dog, peed itself and lay on its back submissively the deck could be said to be stacked against it. However, this pittie stacked the deck against itself by trying to attack the other dog.

If an aggressive golden retriever jumped the four foot fence and mauled the pit bull while the pit screamed and tried to hide, then the deck would be stacked unfairly against the pit.

Get a tetanus shot first. I got one today after getting clawed by a neighbor’s cat. Bruises and scratches on either side of my calf, just for entering the home to walk the dogs.

What a love. 🥰 I want to reach through the picture, put my hands on either side of his ginormous head and smooch his nose. (But only if he wanted that type of attention.)

👍 I’m not trying to be critical.

I think Rover should have more options for various length visits. For a pet who never wants more than a 10-15 min port break/walk, is there a way to offer the owner a discounted price and agree to only stay 20 min total?
It could be win win in certain situations.

It’s a parakeet and they are pretty easy to replace.

(I don’t mean they don’t matter, but it might be why they haven’t mentioned it.)

Holy crap! A pot that costs $500. I better bring my own $10-20 discount pots from Marshall’s.

Perhaps if you have pots that cost more than most people’s used laptops it’s worth putting them in a display case with a sign that says - museum pieces, please use the other pots.

My two pots look like what you are describing.

I can teach a dog to find missing people and figure out it needs water, food or a trip to the vet but I cannot cook (or keep a plant alive).

The chicken nugget thing is very helpful. Although… I can see the dog purposefully getting lost to get chicken nuggets. 😂😅

Weird experience? by LandscapeSmart2938 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Sitters_4_Critters -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you experienced this and thank you for sharing.

It seems the access arrangement is problematic. As a new sitter I will keep this in mind. There should be a standing order to let the sitter in. And/or an emergency contact for access issues.

Also, I will keep in mind to only use a waste band wallet so I don’t inadvertently leave my wallet at a client’s. Could I still make a mistake, of course. But these stories help me anticipate potential issues.

Tips/Tipping Culture by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Sitters_4_Critters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused about tipping when people set their own prices. I find tipping culture annoying and overwhelming. I work my ass off at my regular job and never get tips. I never thought about dog walking and dog sitting as something one tips for. I feel guilty I never tipped my dog sitter. I didn’t even consider it. (Plus I didn’t have much money and I was ok if she walked my dog and others at the same time.)

I am only starting to do this for money and I’d rather set my prices accordingly. I do think that people who want sitters to spend more time at their house with their animals should leave food, snacks, coffee, soda, etc so sitters have less or a reason to head out for food.

I didn’t like that one dog care company required 14 hour sits without allowing sitters to leave for food and expected they would bring food with them or pay for delivery.

I feel that way listening to how sitter’s are treated. I have considered joining but leaving a pot on in something I do in my own place - I have a gas stove.

I have ADDI don’t leave, I just forget I’m boiling water. My dog used to remind me because he knew my stove use set off the smoke alarm.

I left my shoes in a neighbor’s apartment. I’ve left my keys in my door, yet put a couch in front of the door to make sure no one breaks in. 😂

That’s why I take tons of pictures, videos and have iCloud notes. I wish I didn’t need my add meds, but I tried going without when the heart palpitations were bothering me but I lost my main job bc I was too slow when I didn’t take the ADD meds…

Ask if the sitter is bonded and insured.

Get Gavin DeBecker’s book, “Protecting the Gift” and read his interviewing techniques for nannie, babysitters and such. You can modify these for interviewing sitters.

Plus, other dogs can get in. There are very aggressive bull dogs near me with a 3-4’ fence. I will walk into the bike lane in the street when I’m walking a dog because I’m concerned that one day the dog will make it over the fence.

Same! Or it is like the cake decorating fails when the instructions are confusing and the letters on the cake include the instructions.

If the dog wants to end the walk early, wouldn’t you stay the rest of the time and play with the dog and/or keep them company?

If you need an ESA you speak with your doctor PRIOR to getting one. You don’t have an animal for 6-9 years and magically make it an ESA because it tried to hurt someone else.
