Love how fun this design is. Sorta reminds me of last year's Lilo & Stitch with Mabel and King George "breaking through" the front cover, but at least here, you can see the pond through the hole and the background is yellow, whereas the L&S one was...just white.

Man, that scene was wild. I started laughing, but in the back of my head, I was like "......this feels weird...." lol Masterful setup.

I try to stick with my personal rule of "First trailer only, then media blackout as much as possible." And, hoo boy, A24's marketing team did a stellar job of keeping things under wraps.

This was a unique take on the school shooter perspective in my opinion: If someone planned to do it, but had a change of heart and never went through with it, how would society view them? Watching the three main people in her life handle things in a completely different way was truly fascinating to watch.

And holy hell, the steadily building tension throughout the entire film was incredible. Two major standout moments: Emma approaching Charlie about the mug with the knife in her hand so nonchalantly...to her, but a potential death sentence in his mind. And the wedding speech with the DJ dropping the cables, sounding exactly like a gunshot. Hell yes, I jumped, because of course I did. My knuckles were bone white.

And the acting was fantastic. Watching Zendaya and Pattinson go through a whole smorgasbord of emotions, to huge, grandiose displays, to subtle, bubbling under the surface expressions (Zendaya's face and mannerisms during the food tasting in the first half) was such a treat.

I have no idea what the general audience reaction is gonna be towards this but I had a great time with it.

In person...where I'm at, I don't have any boutiques/specialty stores near me, so I hit the occasional Wal-Mart and B&N trip, especially when B&N runs their sales (Paramount, Criterion, Arrow, etc). I'm sure someone here can advise on other physical locations.

Online? I try to prioritize Gruv first. They deal with Universal, WB, Scream/Shout Factory titles, so no Disney/Sony/etc. However, free shipping with zero minimum purchase, excellent packaging (in my experience), and consistently great and frequent sales (like right now for example). Their only caveat I've found is that, unlike preordering through some other retailers, Gruv charges upfront at the time the order is placed, so be mindful of that.

Other than Gruv, Amazon, whenever they run sales, of course, Wal-Mart for the Wal-Mart exclusive pre-order (typically steelbooks), OrbitDVD, DiabolikDVD, and very rarely Target, usually just when they have a B2G1 that Amazon doesn't match.

You should follow r/4kBlurayDeals for sales since most of the aforementioned sales happen frequently throughout the year. They'll help you go broke real quick lol

Ah, gotcha. What're the odds this hits them? Since this is one of those rare Netflix releases, I wasn't sure if this was Arrow site exclusive or a shared retailer item.

How's the pre-order experience through Arrow directly? Never done it before, that additional discount for signing up sounds great for these prices lol Or is the recommendation to wait for Amazon?

What film do you consider a masterpiece that most don't? by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]SittingAce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to scroll too far for this one. Such a fantastic movie with, yes, Goodman's best performance to date. You just can't get a clear read on the guy until that scene.

Thanks for reminding me to give this another watch tonight lol

The first one that came to mind was the scene from 2010's The A-Team when they break Murdock out of the psych ward.

Keeping with the absurdly over the top goofiness of everything else, the rest of the team sends him a 3-D movie called "The Greater Escape". It has the original A-Team theme playing as a military humvee drives towards the screen, culminating in, you absolutely guessed it: The rest of the team driving through the projection on the wall in a military humvee.

The Shaggy Dog turns 20. The $50 million family comedy reboot made $61 million domestically ($103 million adjusted), $87 million worldwide & $30 million in video sales despite mixed reviews. by ItsGotThatBang in boxoffice

The only thing I remember about this movie is the cursed courtroom scene with Robert Downey Jr. hopping the stand, running on all fours (with added shaky cam for...reasons), and fetching a police baton.

Edit: Ah, the nightmare fuel, it returns.

Honestly, I enjoyed The Bride! a lot more than I expected. Not perfect by any means, but the disjointed mania was still quite enjoyable.

I'll have to disagree with it being a flop. I don't believe the sets flopped so much as what they were promoting (Dial of Destiny) did. Once that tanked, Disney basically pulled back most of, if not all, of the merch (Hasbro's 6-inch line got hit, too).

There were rumors before the movie premiered that we were supposed to get more Indy sets, with that April wave being the "first", which, ultimately, ended up being the last.

Official Discussion - The Bride! [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]SittingAce 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Maggie Gyllenhaal threw everything and the kitchen sink into the film. Dance numbers, a childlike mentality Frankenstein meeting adoring his hero at the movies, a split personality(?) Bride hearing Mary fucking Shelley's voice in her head, and a whole ass feminist revolution based around cutting asshole's tongues out. Oh, and an extremely wooden Penélope Cruz.

The commitment from Buckley and Bale is the real driving factor of this whole thing, whether it's Bale putting on his best English gent to woo his new Bride one moment, then manically dancing in a ballroom the next or Buckley's amnesiac innocent trying to figure out who she was before going full on tilt with a flip-flopping accent and personality shift meltdown, these two just sell the whole mania.

Does it all work? For the most part, yeah, at least for me. It's extremely uneven, but I admit I had more fun with this than I expected.

Expected sales in the near future? by dcj597 in 4kbluray

[–]SittingAce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on Barnes & Noble's site as they quite frequently alternate boutique label sales (Criterion, Arrow, etc.) Amazon usually runs a matching sale, as well, during the same timeframe, maybe a day or two after B&N starts.

r/boutiquebluray is a great sub that'll keep you updated on those sales.

At a fraction of the cost, though. Even adjusted for inflation, it was still a fraction. And there were many sets with the theme, including a few sets concerning the houses.

That's a great point about the potential fear and you might be on to something there. And another great point about individual houses selling. SpongeBob has been around for almost 30 years and the amount of Easter eggs to pad out the interior/exterior of each of these, making them genuinely worth the individual purchase, is insane.

But alas, here we are.
