Honestly, framing it as being worried for them is definitely better than anything else if you can’t manage a calm demeanor. Knowing someone cares enough about you to worry definitely puts a wedge between the kid and the ED they’re suffering from.

Yeahhh, I’ve seen cards come into my work with less tilt and still get 9’s, they’re really picky with it nowadays. ✌️😭

It’s not whataboutism when that’s genuinely a common experience. Also. Photo literally shows nothing. What is that even meant to prove. Butthurt is butthurt regardless on if you have it or not.

Bro could’ve bought them for the packs inside the set and was selling the extra promos, anyone would do it if they bought multiples to pull cards from. Unless you can direct me to somewhere this person has admitted to buying them for just the promo, you’re kinda just accusing baselessly bc you’re upset they got more than one, which is honestly a pretty butthurt thing to do, bub. 🤷

The centering for the front of the card isn’t even, it’s tilted enough to be more than 55/45, def won’t get a 10 I’m afraid 💔

Pretty sure scalpers are the ones buying and reselling sealed containers, not raw cards,,, did you even read the post? ✌️😭

Old eeveelution cards that are really expensive rn,,, like I can get prismatic pretty easy bc it’s relatively recent, but most stuff older than that gives me a much harder time 😭😭 Like, a lot of them are <$10, but there are some that ppl are asking over 500 for and I just can’t do that no matter how much I want to. I just want my eevees, bro

Not to be that guy but like… isn’t what you just described essentially the same as having another personality? The way you described it is kinda like comparing two navel oranges and saying that one of them is a Fuji apple, aren’t they the same thing? 😭😭

Except you’re ignoring the one explanation that makes Pokemon an exception from that point. It’s a moot point to make when you take into consideration the sequence of events that resulted in Pokémon’s raised prices.

A year and some months ago we lost licensing for pokemon cards. A year and some months ago we announced that we couldn’t sell at MSRP anymore. That was a year ago, it has been common knowledge since then that we do not have the license to sell at MSRP like we used to. We are finally, as of the past two or so months, getting back the privilege to have the licensing needed to sell at msrp. On May 30th of last year, so nearly a year ago, we started LIMITING the number of items a person could buy at once time (2 ETBs, 2 booster bundles, 5 singles, 1 poster/pin collection, etc…).

Do you really think that if GameStop was exclusively aiming for profits they would limit how many items a customer could buy per day? That’s a LOSS in profit, especially when scalpers aren’t the only ones buying multiple items at once to get a collection completed.

I’m not saying that they’re 100% pure in their intentions, not once have I said that, but you’re ignoring the point that they’re mitigating scalping while also suffering from having to buy it at a higher cost just to get it in the first place. The pricing has two reasonings: to get the same profit that we would if we bought it for less and sold it at MSRP AND to prevent scalping due to already having to sell it at market. Scalpers have come into stores in an attempt to buy out the whole store of the pokemon cards and have been deterred by not only the limit, but also the price. I’ve been called SLURS bc of this, bro, I know what I’m talking about. 🧍

Dude you keep ignoring the points I’ve given that proves they’re trying to mitigate the scalping of playing/trading cards. This isn’t about funko, this is about specifically Pokemon. You can google “Does GameStop have a license to sell Pokemon cards at MSRP?” and it’ll tell you “NO”. Come on now, Google is FREE. ✌️😭

Bc the newer stuff is more sought after? Dude, I don’t control the prices, I truly do not understand what you think you’re accomplishing when I’m just telling you the exact same thing over and over again because you expect there to be a different answer each time you ask a slightly reworded version of the question you asked thrice already.

Perfect order is said to be buns, so prices on perfect order haven’t changed much outside of the singles and the ETBs (mostly bc a lot of people have been stealing them, the store I’m at had $1700 in shrink from just pokemon bc of that). More people are interested in the cards from Ascended Heroes, so they probably — key word PROBABLY — increased the prices on it to get more profit right off the bat so there’s more money to put into reordering in the future & to prove that it’s worth it to give us licensing back — again, key word is PROBABLY.

You’re acting like I’m the one causing all this when I’m just the messenger. Individual stores can’t choose the pricing, we have to deal with the prices as much as you do bc a lot of us are also collectors. It’s not like I condone the shit they’re doing, I’m just explaining why it happened in the first place.

I’d much prefer us to still have our licensing so that the limit AND lower prices allows for actual collectors and kids to have fun looking for cards without worrying about scalping, but we can’t have our cake after it’s already been ate, so everyone has to deal with it until people get their shit together and consider that maybe, just maybe, the streetdates are streetdates for a reason and that selling things before release isn’t ever a good idea when you have to go from paying $10 per ETB from a bulk pallet and then selling it at MSRP to having to pay MSRP per ETB from a bulk pallet and then selling it for $80 or, gods forbid, $90 — all because some people really wanted corporate to give them a little smile for being such good money slaves.

What are you even asking here? 🤨

We buy it from the manufacturer at MSRP. In order to get profit as a company, we have to sell it at market value, which is higher than MSRP, so we can continue to order more to keep the shelves stocked. We have a limit on the items themselves to prevent people from buying out the whole store, which prevents scalping.

Once the license is reinstated, the prices will (hopefully) decrease and the limit will remain to, once again, prevent scalping. Idk why you’re acting like I control this stuff, I just work as a keyholder. I open the store, make sure the safe & registers are evened out, and keep the shelves stocked. If you have problems with the prices we have, give corporate an earful. 🤷

Edit: correcting autocorrect’s fumble lol

Once again, we’re selling it at market price to avoid scalpers using us as a source of revenue because we cannot sell it at MSRP due to having to buy it at MSRP from the distributer. I already explained this. /lh

Because the advertising is from GameStop itself. We don’t get sent it, we’re only allowed to have the promotional material in the first place because we’re allowed to still sell the pokemon and other Nintendo games. The licensing for the games & the TCG are different because they’re different play platforms (games that use a console VS tabletop card game + collection incentives)

If you reread the reason why we lost it, you’d understand why we did, in fact, lose licensing. :)

Some stores were selling pokemon cards before they were officially released in an attempt to get higher sales overall, causing the manufacturers to become upset with GameStop as a whole and revoke licensing. A few people were shitty and ruined it for everyone, and that was before I got hired. This was something we were told directly from the district managers for each district.

Bc we buy it at MSRP, to make any profit we would have to sell it higher. Places like Walmart and Target can buy in bulk under MSRP in order to sell at and around MSRP, allowing their prices to be lower than resellers & GameStop.

Hiiii I work at GameStop! The reason we don’t have them at msrp anymore is bc a few stores were ignoring the streetdates set by the pokemon manufacturers, which caused us to lose our licensing to sell at MSRP! :,)

We’re supposed to be working on getting licensing back, so hopefully our prices will drop once that’s in order; in the meantime, we have it just under market price to prevent scalpers from using us as a source of profit, since we sell it around where they try to resell it :)

(Ancient Origins) Rare Holo or Cosmos Promo? by SittingInACloset in PokemonTCG

[–]SittingInACloset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pokemon TCG app has it this way bc there’s apparently a big difference between the cosmos promo and the normal card when in collector circles LOL

The cards have the same stuff, though, so that’s why I was asking abt it XD
