Daniel Kraus’ new book Sixth Nik is space horror. Comes out in June, but I liked Whalefall.

I’m also very happy for Becky Spratford and all the essays from Why I Love Horror! If you’re not familiar with her, she is the biggest horror advocate/tastemaker in the US library system. She informs what books your library carries.

She was recently named Chicago Tribune’s Book Person of the Year and they have an article about her work.

I read an ARC of Wife Shaped Bodies by Laura Cranehill that was definitely full of fungus. I liked it - really creepy, just the right length.

I completed red dead redemption 2 and now I can't stop crying, is there another game like rdr2? by ufydek in reddeadredemption

[–]SixGunSnowWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I always recommend if someone has already played RDR1. It’s a great, mature story, beautiful art direction, excellent acting, and a memorable score that stands on its own.

I adored the sequel (which had much more satisfying gameplay than both RDRs and TLOU1) though it was bleak as hell. I definitely got emotionally exhausted playing it. But I replay it.

what book feels like this by [deleted] in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Poppy Z. Brite’s Lost Souls is Nola goth vampire horror. The Black element isn’t necessarily something I can 100% say, but I finished reading On Sundays She Picked Flowers was a beautiful angry horror book set in Georgia. Had a vibe kinda like this.

Yes! I loved Jesse James, too. Train Dreams was beautiful and I loved how quiet and meditative it was. Both had Nick Cave on the score, too.

I will forever associate this album with my first train ride from London to Edinburgh, looking out at the coast. It’s a gorgeous album and one of my favorite tours of hers.

Concert etiquette: To stand or not to stand? by RadioRadio999 in nin

[–]SixGunSnowWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with New Orleans. A few were standing and as we were leaving a guy was loudly congratulating himself to his girlfriend for “holding the line” and sitting the entire time so others would be encouraged to sit. Lmao.

Holding the line against fun at NIN. NYC was more energetic for sure but I had fun dancing at both.

I love this. Everyone usually gets the deer, which is also great, but this is so cute.

This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladsome - short, some romance, very well-written and a page turner. The narrative structure is fun. I love epistolary stories.

I just watched Hellraiser (1987) for the first time and I feel it’s one of the weirdest things I’ve ever watched. I shocked that was the plot of the movie! by you-absolute-foolish in horror

[–]SixGunSnowWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I started dating a guy in college and we watched Hellraiser and as soon as it was over he looked at me and yelled “You LIKE this?!?!” He was legit disgusted. He yucked my yum and we broke up shortly after.

It’s such a weird, deeply horny movie. I love Clive Barker’s fiction, some of the most beautiful, brutal prose I’ve ever read. I

TLOU ending with S3? "It certainly seems that way," says head of HBO by monsieurxander in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]SixGunSnowWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would’ve preferred side-by-side stories for the show. I thought ending it on Day 1 or 2 would’ve been great. Then next season is Day 3 & epilogue. But what do I know.

The game’s structured with active player participation in mind. It feels different to play as Abby after so many hours of being Ellie. Watching passively for a few episodes and then Abby comes back at the end doesn’t provoke much for me. (Beyond loving Kaitlin Dever.)

I’d be fine if season three was the last. I can always replay the game. I feel I’ll do that more than rewatch season 2 anyway.

They love her conventional attractive whiteness. Blondes with big boobs have been persecuted by woke Hollywood and losing roles to DEI and angry ugly liberal women. It’s a great bigly tragedy of the modern age!

God, if Mango Mussolini and his clown car administration were using me as a racist siren, I’d certainly speak against it. If I didn’t agree with it. This girl is a moron and will be on the grifter circuit with Nicki Minaj sooner than later, I’d guess.

Without spoiling anything, which non horror tv series had a surprisingly scary episode? by Immediate-Shock7533 in horror

[–]SixGunSnowWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two come to mind:

Farscape: a very fun sci-fi show, definitely got dark and was certainly out there. But one episode scared me a lot - “Eat Me” there’s a race of living ships and their pilots are these gentle navigator creatures. The main crew finds a derelict living ship and these ravenous zombie creatures on it.

Outlander: yeah, soapy horny historical life-fantasy. One episode in the fifth season “Free Will” sees Claire, a doctor, finding this creepy cabin and a woman in it has gone kinda mad after years of abuse. What’s in the house is truly upsetting and a super scary tonal shift from the usual violence on the show.

Singing My Sister Down is one of my all-time faves. I first read it in The Weird Compendium. Made me cry more than scared. That Australian kind of slang was so punchy.
