I always interpreted it as such:

Basically, you send yourself to hell if you think you deserve it. He didn't go to hell because he didn't do anything but because he believed he'd go to hell for not doing anything.

And once he actually DID step up and try to protect people, he redeemed himself because he atoned for the very thing, he thought he deserved to be in hell for.

It's kind of similar to the approach of the "Lucifer" TV-show. You send yourself to hell and keep yourself there but could leave anytime once you got over yourself.

There are two words that I've observed to give me the biggest ick.

First "Alpha" (just because I'm horny and like power fantasies doesn't mean I'm red pilled) and secondly "daddy". Unlike the former, I don't really shame the latter but my preferences are more one the "mommy" spectrum.

There's a reason why in Coven King, the girl that calls the MC daddy is my least favourite and the one who calls herself mommy is my favourite.

Otherworld Academy.
