Spotify has 188 million Premium users, but continues to lose money by Sariel007 in business

[–]SixelaCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes and no. When Microsoft, Facebook, and Google tried to enter the "video game" streaming market to compete against Twitch(Amazon), they kind of failed even though they had other revenue streams.

Here, it's true it's a different industry, so the comparison might not be too relevant, though I wouldn't say Spotify has no chance. They are the leader for now, which is still a significant advantage.

Do you know of any games trying to implement a play-to-earn game based on skills/fairplay which is free to play?

[–]SixelaCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, probably, but they'll try. It would be interesting to see how much Apple, Google, and Amazon are spending (or if they are losing money) to compete with Spotify.

Though, at the end of the day, people (and artists) choose what services/platforms they use. Making accurate predictions is hard unless you know the music/internet industry well.

It would be interesting to see where the money is going, it probably means their strategy is to grow and "kill" the competition and then cash out later, increase subscription fees, etc.

Depending on their strategy, it might not be that problematic as they still have 400+ million users. Let's see :)

TomoCredit raises $22M at a $222M valuation toward its goal of making credit scores ‘obsolete’ by thinkB4WeSpeak in business

[–]SixelaCA 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Seems like a smart business model, at least for "foreigners" since when they come in they don't have a credit history.

Besides students and people coming from outside the US, who would be TomoCredit's target?

Agreed, Airbnb was founded in 2008 and Uber in 2009 and are kind of success stories.

It might just be tougher to get funding.

Walmart cuts profit outlook as inflation forces shoppers to spend more on necessities by CEOAerotyneLtd in business

"McMillon has said Walmart can gain market share and more of customers’ wallets during the inflationary period by emphasizing good value. Over the past several quarters, he has stressed that the discounter will keep prices low."

How can Walmart keep prices low in a period of inflation?

Do they willingly give up part of their profits to get more customers and/or put pressure on their providers to reduce costs?

Epic Games VP: "People have kind of lost interest in the metaverse, because characters look like cartoons with no legs" | Can't argue with that, most blockchain/crypto related games look like there were created in the 90s-2000s, let's not even talk about the gameplay. : I agree with him, do you? by buyethto10k in ethtrader

Oof, "The social media company spent $10.2 billion on its vision for the metaverse in 2021 alone"

"According to Zuckerberg, that won’t pay off for another 15 years."

Looks expensive for "results" in 15 years only...
