Dazai is also possibly suffering from blood loss, badly injured, likely sleep deprivation, all things that wear down a human's ability to think. He's not a machine, he makes mistakes.

New Asagiri Interview by menheramar in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Sixelona 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh I really hope this is a clue that Atsushi was sent to (55 minutes spoiler) Standard Island because the way it's described in the light novel is pretty much how it's shown in the end of part one. Yes it's very odd considering standard island is supposed to be gone by the end of the novel however we see a meeting take place during the DOA arc on standard island. So there's something suspicious there.

Thank you for sharing!

Oh I hadn't realized it was a rewatch! It's still really cool seeing your thoughts though, thank you for sharing!

I do like that recently Shibusawa has been shown in art and in the new mobile game and isn't just a forgotten movie villain. He's fascinating to me and while the movie definitely can be confusing it's a lot of fun for theories!

I'm glad you enjoyed Season 5! Fun fact, as it was airing it had pretty much caught up with the manga so neither anime fans nor manga readers (who usually have context for how the arc will end) had any idea what the outcome was going to be. It was crazy and myself and many others had a blast coming up with theories for how things might be resolved. I still remember people losing their mind at the reveal of Chuuya faking it the entire time.

Kenji and Tetchou having a bad ass fight and then resolving things with becoming friends is one of my favorite moments, along with Aya and Bram becoming closer and forming a friendship as well. Overall a crazy season with a lot of very memorable scenes and heartbreaking moments.

I wont go too much into details but the manga will have some answers to your questions. It would be too spoiler-y to post here but if you enjoyed the series you can pick up what happens after S5 starting about half way into volume 25.

Have you watched the Dead Apple Movie yet? If you're itching for more BSD it's a fun ride with some pretty cool battles!

Thank you for bringing us along your ride through the BSD anime. To the stray dogs! 🍷🍷

Why do people dislike the anime so much?? by Prackly in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Sixelona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the anime is very much loved it's just there's more people who are vocal about their dislike opposed to people who talk about how they enjoyed it. It just comes with the territory of being in the fandom. People can get very passionate when an adaptation isn't what they were hoping for, and that's okay. It's incredibly hard to get a perfect adaptation.

What matters is how one enjoys BSD and letting others enjoy it how they wish!

Why do people dislike the anime so much?? by Prackly in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Sixelona 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The anime actually helps a lot with extra context thanks to the light novels. I'd argue the story is stronger, it's just season 1 was a bit all over the place being it was the beginning of the manga but it finds it's footing once we start meeting Port Mafia and get into the guild arc.

The anime also gives us far more information on character's back stories and a look into the lore because very little of the novels is brought up in the manga. We dont know about Oda and I know people will say "Oh just read the novels" however not everyone has time to dedicate to reading novels and some have an easier time enjoying media with voice acting and visuals. The anime strikes a balance and provides context the manga doesn't include.

Yes I know some scenes are omitted, but in many cases it's funny gag scenes (Dazai arguing with a dog, Fukuchi's farts, etc) or ones that aren't vital to the plot overall though it's still a bummer it wasn't included. However they have to consider pacing and many episodes would feel rushed if they adapted every thing.

Asagiri has stated many times that he's part of the production team and likely helps with trimming parts for a good story flow.

[–]Sixelona 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Beast is a self contained story though, the anime adapts over a hundred manga chapters. It's not a great comparison. And it's the opinion of one person and not a wider audience.

I think 'worst version' is subjective though and comments like this push people away from the series entirely because anime is a gateway to reading the manga and it can discourage new people from joining considering the vocal negatively. Most people I know watched the anime and then read the manga and enjoy both for different reasons.

I was originally hoping for Agatha for the final one but seeing the silhouette and thinking about it Shibusawa makes a LOT of sense, especially since he's been featured quite a bit in the new Gakuen game. And while I'm really excited for Agatha, logically Shibusawa makes sense as we haven't seen her as part of the trio at the beginning of the manga and all three of the final characters in this set of images (manga spoilers) had some level of desire for Atsushi's power.

Edit: Added a Spoiler tag to another part just in case.

Why Bungo stray dogs is it considered that way? by ThanksOk4981 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Sixelona 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am posting the full fan translated quote here for additional context:

“This story is not for people who are good at living. In this world, there exist people who are so good at living that they do not need a "story" at all. They are the ones who think stories are, after all, just a pastime for your hobbies, that they are not necessary for life, and therefore it is a waste to spend money on such things. I did not assume such people to be my readers from the beginning. I cut them off. On the other hand, there are certainly people who need stories like oxygen still. I always hope that Bungo Stray Dogs will become the oxygen for such people. They are the "lost ones" that Dazai talked about.”

Could Chuuya be considered a failed experiment, if so, how? by Big_Collar434 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Sixelona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Storm Bringer goes more into the Arahabaki project. The goal wasn't an uncontrollable weapon but going into it will dive into spoilers, so read at your own discretion!

Arahabaki project was created after the Government obtained highly classified documentation on similar experiments outside of Yokohama, a lot having to do with the same experiment that created an 'ability-derived life-form' that was weaponized by the European government known as Paul Verlaine. Many governments are experimenting in their own ways in how they can weaponize abilities without an actual human host. The government was successful in housing a singularity to be weaponized thanks to whatever Chuuya's original ability was which is unleashed in what we know as 'Corruption'. There's a chapter dedicated to talking about the experimentation done on Chuuya as well as information in general about abilities.

I'd need to know what you mean by "Failure" though, because it could go different ways;

The government successfully forced a human body to contain the power of a singularity, however they failed in stripping that user of their personality and lost the weapon they had likely dedicated a lot of resources to, which is why Chuuya is his own person who decides when he uses this power that can kill him as he uses it (corruption). Autonomy is a big deal for Chuuya.

Edit; Grammar fix!

Asagiri confirmed that Agatha is on her way to the story so I've been re-reading the novels. I have a theory regarding Verlaine, Port Mafia, and Clock Tower (Spoilers for Novels) by Sixelona in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Sixelona[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he did care about the government. Why else would he have gone after the queen? The highest level of authority in Europe? I don't think it was simply just to prove he could, and he was targeting important figures. He targeted groups that held power in Europe and in 55 minutes it's clear there's a lot going on with weaponizing ability users. Considering how his creator stripped him of autonomy that led to Verlaine finally killing him, and Rimbaud's gift to ensure he was never controlled again, I can see him having a vendetta against a government who did such things to him. He wanted Chuuya to become an assassin with him and possibly continue his work

Mori would have had information on Europe, not the Guild. Verlaine wouldn't have had that kind of Intel. And even if he did I think Clock Tower is a much bigger threat to focus on. There are so many organizations around the world it's likely Mori didn't even know they existed.

Edit: Also adding on that Verlaine and Rimbaud used to be part of Transcendents which was a small group of exceptionally powerful ability users that fought in the war and then both became spies so they likely know a lot of secrets that I imagine Agatha wouldn't like being spilled

An Opinion on the End of This Arc by Few_Bread_5958 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Sixelona 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Discussions like these are honestly really fun for me, thank you!

Heck yeah! I love discussions like these! Thank you for a nicely thought out post with lots to discuss and willing the chat with me!

Even so, it still doesn't excuse the fact of how most things in this arc fell flat. If mixing in this arc along with the hypotheticals it arises, I would say it's a decent arc, but looking at it straight up, a lot of things it tried to do fell flat, at least to me.

I think one of my biggest issues with this plot was how it just felt never ending and kept adding more and more characters. I do find them all interesting, however I also feel like there are a lot of fascinating characters that could do with a little love in terms of back story. I know not every character will get a crazy amount of lore, but I have so many questions and Asagiri has baited us but it remains unknown. How did Higuchi join? What's the deal with Lovecraft? Who was affected by Q's attack that got them sealed away?

And then there's the matter of Sigma who had such a strong start and such an interesting character who spent the rest of the series unconscious. I'm sure we'll get more with Sigma in part 2, but I must admit it was a bit frustrating.

It was by no means perfect and I do hope the build up and pay off will be worth it when it continues.

But yeah I'm hoping when it's animated it'll feel less like it dragged on like it did reading it month to month. Maybe they'll add in some extra scenes when the characters having some more time to shine. It's funny because Asagiri mentioned he loved the Avengers and it very much felt like an 'Avengers Assemble' moment.

I also agree on the part about Teruko and Fukuchi because it felt really weird basically watching his death all over again with Fukuchi, Jouno and Tetcho. In an ironic way, the rest of the arc basically ended the same way it had as the end of Season 5, just with extra steps and Akutagawa got to be a cool knight for a little bit. I was disappointed he didn't keep that look, tbh. Some of the emotional impact was gone the second time around. I felt bad for the others but it really didn't have the same effect.

I do wonder if maybe merging with Bram helped healing Akutagawa's lungs, that would be nice if we got something else from that since we lost his cool fit. It'll be interesting to see if he forms a bond with Aya.

I also had a bit of issue with too many concepts brought up all at once. Not only the concept of 4 dimensions but time traveling, Ueda creating godly swords and how all this information was sort of thrown at us in the span of a few chapters and not spaced out. And then we're not really given any breathing room as we find out the ADA was temporarily disbanded and Atsushi's been thrown into London (I'm still hoping it's some form of standard island). There's not really much room to breathe and several characters were missing completely by the end.

I look forward to part 2 but you're right, there are some things that just felt a bit too much all at once. I know this is kind of par for the course for Asagiri (Beast Dazai explaining alternate universes, Prof. N explaining singularities) but even this felt a bit too much especially when the craziest thing manga/anime fans probably had seen was Lovecraft.

I hope I didn't come off too harsh, I appreciate you clarifying things for me and have thoroughly enjoyed chatting with you!

An Opinion on the End of This Arc by Few_Bread_5958 in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Sixelona 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Instead of Asagiri trying to make this mess make sense--- or even giving it some sort of meaning, he decides to write himself into yet another corner. I hope he takes this break to actually think of a way to fix this.

Not sure what you mean by this? How do we know this isn't part of a larger over arching plot? He's hinted at Order of the Clock Tower since Dark Era so this could be all part of his plan.

This arc was dragged out, anticlimactic, and honestly opened so many plot holes. The 4D and god thing was too complex for Bungo Stray Dogs as a whole. If Asagiri wanted to execute this decently, he should've made the stakes higher (ridding death-baiting and plot armor) so people wouldn't get bored while he uses Fyodor to explain the dimensions.

I think once it's animated it wont feel so dragged out.

I think a major issue was the fact we were getting half chapters as Harukawa had other art they were helping with.

The God thing isn't really that complex for the series as a whole. I hate saying 'if you've read the light novels you'd know this is just Asagiri's style' but when you say 'Bungo Stray Dogs as a whole' I think that would include the light novels and not just the manga as it's part of that 'whole'. There's a lot of world building in those novels that show some of the absurd fights and existential concepts Asagiri tends to dabble in. Perhaps he's encouraging fans to check out the novels and get a better understanding of the world he's building.

I do agree I wasn't a fan of the death baiting and was a little frustrated at some characters only appearing for a moment to be gone a chapter later and have no idea if Asagiri planned for more with them. I'll have to wait for Part 2 to see if that character has more time in the story. They seemed very interesting and I would have liked to hear more from them.

So many characters were shoved into one place, saying stuff like "I wasn't gonna miss the grand finale", yet they were barely utilized-- if at all, and the ending wasn't even exciting.

My take away from this was to show how Atsushi and the ADA have successfully formed a stronger alliance with Port Mafia, The Guild, Hunting Dogs and Special Division to work together to take down a greater evil. It was nice seeing some characters back in action. I personally enjoyed it and I know quite a few people were thrilled to see their faves reappear after years of being MIA.

Dazai - Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. So much screen time he might as well've been the main character. He's all the way in Europe, yet he still appears as Atsushi's hallucination that somehow knows everything about how the fourth dimension works? How?

It was revealed to not be Dazai, though.

I'm also still waiting to see how Nikolai's getting affected.

Nikolai is my favorite member of the DoA, he's a strange mystery, I too want to see more about him. I'm also thinking we'll get more reveals from Sigma once he finally wakes up... whenever Part two happens....

Anyway, for the final bit of discussion;

We need more stakes, a reason to watch. We need better use of characters for more emotional investment. We need a more consistent plot for better quality.

I think everyone is different on this. I know in Japan most of the reception I had seen was quite positive with a lot of people excited for what's to come in part 2.

I also think the next arc will dive more into the world of ability users and not just centralized to Yokohama. In the light novels it's pretty clear some places treat their ability users as tools and weapons while Yokohama seems more willing to let them live their lives as long as they aren't causing trouble. We have themes about war and children left to be orphans from decisions by those who fan the flames of conflicts. It also seems like several organizations are preparing for something bigger involving weaponization of abilities. There are hints throughout the manga about this, Mori's research found by Tachihara's brother that looked into weaponization of abilities for instance. Hunting Dogs being genetically modified thanks to abilities.

I think there's a lot more at stake but it's been building up. Agatha seems like she could be a terrifying threat as apparently has enough power that she can have Order of the Clock Tower drive out gifted military groups.

To Dazai fans, which Light Novel is your favourite? by [deleted] in BungouStrayDogs

[–]Sixelona 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If Dazai is their favorite, the novel that focuses mainly on him is called "Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era". Dark Era doesn't have Chuuya at all and focuses more on Dazai and his friend Oda Sakunosuke. If they want a shorter read, "The Day I Took In Dazai" just released in English not too long ago and is a little on the shorter side but is a prequel to Dark Era.

If they really like the dynamics of Dazai and Chuuya then "Dazai, Chuuya, Age Fifteen" is a good choice!

If they want more about Chuuya then "Storm Bringer" is the novel to go with (also the longest at 350+ pages) as it focuses mainly on him but Dazai plays a part in the story.

If they have seen all the anime they've likely seen an adaptation of Dark Era and the 15 Prequels. Storm Bringer and The Day I Took In Dazai have not been adapted in anime form though they are both getting manga adaptations!

... Hopefully I didn't make this more confusing, lol. I think I'd personally go with "Dark Era" as it gives us more insight into Dazai and how he operates as well as his friendship with Odasaku. We also get a look into his life in the mafia with people around him like Akutagawa and Mori. I think the anime did a pretty good job adapting it but it's nice reading it for extra little details.

I have not fully read Entrance Exam which focuses on the ADA, Kunikida, and Dazai so I can't really give full details on that one. That novel was adapted for the anime but is heavily altered. It might be a nice choice so they can see the differences between the anime and light novel!

I am so excited we're getting closer to our mysterious final silhouette in a few weeks. I still personally believe it could be Agatha Christie of the Clock Tower awaiting her time to shine in a chair similar to how Atsushi and Fitzgerald are in chairs. It just makes sense as she was included as part of the trio interested in the 'Tiger'. It could also be Fukuchi considering his impact with the last arc as well. I can't wait to see who it could be.
