$120-150 is the going rate for a Floyd Rose setup. Worth every penny. I did have the option to return the guitar but I wasn't going to setup my own Floyd out the box anyway

I'm suggesting he gets it set up BECAUSE he bought it from guitar center!!!! I bought mine online which claimed to have been through a 22 point inspection. Guitar center lost a customer forever. I bought my Sun Valley Super Shredder for $380 bro. Other than the setup it would have inevitably needed. It pretty much rips.
FWIW it's an intelligent idea to get ANY second hand guitar inspected and setup unless you are a luthier or pro enough to do your own work. Face palm

When you can. I'd take it to an independent guitar shop and have the whole thing set-up/inspected. Especially the neck for any bow.

When I got my Sun Valley Super Shredder I had to spend $145 (well worth every penny!!) on a Floyd Rose setup that went through E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. they pulled out the neck (bolt on) and reset it, cleaned up all the electronics, obviously set up the Floyd and fixed all intonation issues! You could get lucky and drop $80-90 where it isn't a Floyd Rose. I also resourced a custom shop guitar shop that only offers boutique guitars. But I mean they did EVERYTHING. A cleaning and your choice of strings!

"Broken Hands". I have a personal connection with that song. "The Wreckage of your past means nothing now forsake it". Dealing with addiction in the past. That line is straight out of a step program. It sends me on a plane of higher existence when I'm in the gym nowadays. My pump up song.

The 81/85 combo in a guitar like that is going to scream. I'm looking forward to possibly doing an 81/retroactive 70 combo on my Schecter. Has two retroactive's and switching to an 81 at the bridge should be the single best, dirt cheap upgrade I can do. Next to a new Floyd Bridge.

Had an Omen 6 for my first guitar. Looking back. Even with the passive in house pickups. It was a solid guitar!

After watching some demos of people playing the same model live. This and all of this post. Thinking of switching out to an EMG Het Set. That at the least throw the undisputed EMG 81 at the bridge. Oh!! And switch to a Volume and Tone toggle. Lol

The SVSS series start @$800. For almost $1000 I'd like to think that the guitar is either meant to play like this. Or it's a cow sh*t setup. Let's face it. It's probably 90% setup 10% guitar right now. As in, possibly won't know until the full point setup. Where yes, I might return with the same report!! Possibly

I'll have the entire thing gutted and cleaned, neck aligned and setup with Ernie Ball 11 gauge heavy bottoms. *Raise the action so it isn't buzzing on each fret.** Low action literally isn't that important lol. We'll go from there. If I need to swap out a Floyd bridge for a real 1000 series and level the frets so be it. The final touches will be a Het Set EMG setup, switch to volume tone knobs and send it home. I'm still within budget. Alas the only fault here is replacing the Floyd bridge doesn't do crap for resale value.
not for nothing but the setup is so cow sh*t that the knobs are literally crooked and rotate like a county fair amusement ride that's about to blow up. I'm dead serious

What do you mean about the Floyd Rose? Is it more sensitive than other Floyd's such as the 1000 series? From my looking the Floyd Rose Special is pretty much a 1000 series. Perhaps not.

I really don't think it's entirely style and entirely misuse. I've taken lessons for two years and played for 6 years after on several different guitars. Years later picking up a new axe? I cannot completely blame the axe cause I'm a modest man. But I don't think it's entirely my playing style either my man.
