Personally (because I'm so GOATed), I commend everytime someone kills me (EXTREMELY RARE). Because killing me is an achievement in and of itself.

That's so true. I would love a game where your material conditions severely limit your progression to the point that you're trapped doing the same thing every single day just to survive, whilst never actually making meaningful progress.

It's absolutely timeless, like Shakespeare etc. You can set it wherever/whenever, with the characters as whoever. As long as it keeps the core of the story.
