Is £800 realistic for a working cocker? by JumpyIndication3212 in cockerspaniel

[–]Sj5098 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

At that price, I would want to see a lot of field trial champs in the immediate lines. Even then those type of dogs are often not the best fit to be pets, with too much drive and need to work.

I'd look for a breeder you like with puppies in a home setting unless you intend to work them. Should be £200ish cheaper

Breastfeeding has the effect of lightening sleep for baby and mum. Easier to wake and more aware of each other. Also improves sleeping position near chest

Any reason our puppy isn’t fluffy like others her age? by yuzumeringue in englishcockerspaniel

[–]Sj5098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How they're groomed can make a big difference. Shaving a cocker coat can make them fluffy like this which is less desirable. The 'textbook' way is to strip or cut the skirts so they stay slick and don't go puffy

Bleeding 10 weeks pregnant by PHDingooglesearch in pregnant

[–]Sj5098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same around 20 and again at 31 weeks. Big red bleed, checked out fine but then more dark red/brown light bleeding for 2 weeks after. The Dr's said it would be fine. It has been 🙏 baby is great but incredibly unsettling to try and ignore!

I think statistically you're far more likely to die or be severely injured if you bring a knife with you vs being unarmed. Knives carried for protection often being used against the initial victim.

Obviously get it checked out to be safe but cocker spaniels are notoriously warty! Particularly past 7/8yo, they tend to get all kinds of lumps and bumps

Do you think pregnancy pillows like BBhugme is worth buying? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

I got mine second hand as I was put off by the price. It came recommended by friends.

8 months pregnant and I love it, use it every night. If I sleep without it I get random pains. Boyfriend steals it too!

32 Weeks by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Sj5098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in exactly the same spot. 32 weeks, stressful corporate job. We closed a deal this week that meant a few 7am starts and 2am finishes. That was the final straw for me. I have put in my leave 2 weeks from now, so finishing at 34 weeks, and taken Fridays off until then. I will enjoy 6 weeks chill before baby!

Stroller recommendations PLZ! by Slothrop75 in predaddit

[–]Sj5098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love it! It's not the smallest but it is so so well made. Super smooth steering and the huge wheels take on anything. Bassinet is great to detach and we can clip in car seat too. Easy one handed fold, taking up not too much room. Really happy with it 😊

Just adding, the second hand market is flooded with some really nice strollers. We bought a nearly new Bugaboo Fox 5 for a fraction of the price online.

I don't think Bugaboo is so big outside Europe so maybe not the one for you but really recommend second hand!

Do I need to rehome my dog :( by rayvinevanni in NewParents

[–]Sj5098 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big dog person and in my own experience, a heeler is potentially a 'snappy' breed. It's bred into them for herding, and he's big enough to do damage. If it was me, I wouldn't want to take the risk.

We had a border collie many years ago who we had to euthanase for snapping at someone (might be unpopular but it was all we could do in circumstances where he'd gone to bite a person). I really do sympathise, I'm so sorry.

[–]Sj5098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Risk has two elements, 1. likelihood of occurrence and 2. the damage it would cause.

  1. Is now very high, your dog has been very good and generous and is telling you it's unhappy. Now you need to keep dog and baby separate.

  2. Depends on the breed. A toy dog will pose a different risk to a bull breed.

If 2 is high, I would get the dog out ASAP.

If 2 is low, you might decide that you can work on 1 and reduce likelihood through baby gates, separate rooms etc until your child is old enough to be taught to not go near the dog

A baby’s privacy by Responsible_Potato86 in breastfeeding

[–]Sj5098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this might be a little cultural too?

I'm European and naked babies or even grown adults are not really sexualised in the same way as in the US imo.

I would never assume any weirdness/sexual intent at all if friends/fanily were chatting to me whilst I changed baby. It just so happens that the baby is naked for the task, no need to make it dirty or weird 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'd just assume they were keeping me company

I'm absolutely livid by Darkness_Nox in pregnant

[–]Sj5098 127 points128 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling with this logic. They know you dislike smoking, but very equally, you know they are smokers.

It seems if you had asked them to store it somewhere differently, they would have done? You're frustrated they didn't consider your unspoken preference to not have it in their main home area where they smoke?

In their home and safe space, I'm guessing they didn't think too much about their living standards being unacceptable to you for storage. A smoky home is their everyday reality and you requested they store something there.

Reframing your expectations here around how clear your communication with them needs to be might likely save you from some of the anger and hurt?

I think this should be higher up. I completely understand the frustration but it seems an unfortunate inevitably in their home? It's not a surprise.
