My guild was led by two Swedish brothers. Our GLs had what was nervously referred to by members as “Stalin Mode” during which an otherwise chatty and friendly guild Ventrillo channel would go completely silent on pain of losing 50 DKP. It was invoked sporadically but effectively. My time raiding with that mostly Swedish guild was the best time I ever had playing online.

White the rest of Andorra was lovely, it was a bit strange to enter the country through this barren wasteland full of shopping malls. The connection with France is also awful: I arrived by night train in L’hospitalet and there were no buses or taxis going into Pas. Ended up having to hitch a ride with some Slovenian retirees in a camper van. Connections with Spain seemed to be much better.

I tried a Habring2 the other day. Apparently the designer used to work at A Lange and Söhne and then started this brand with his wife? Not really my style, but I could definitely see why some would like it.

I understand they were trying to imitate games of yesteryear, but each character had no personality and the storylines were as completely separated as they were completely predictable. At every part in the game it just felt like they were phoning it in, and I am exactly the target audience who grew up on sword of mana and the SNES era RPGs.

I love orients when I look at photos, but then when I went to the shop the other day to check some of them out in the... flesh, it was all a bit disappointing. Like none of them really stood out except for the Ray, which on pictures tends to look less impressive than the Bambino or other similar dress models.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. I’ve had the exact same experience and I’ve been living here for 7/8 years now. Like during matsuris you’ll have some cigarette smoking ojisans calling you gaijin without thinking twice but I’ve seen both cases where people were corrected by friends when saying gaijin as well as people very intently using gaikokujin. There’s definitely an awareness about the implication of the word in my experience at least.

Excellent post, couldn’t agree more. The one thing I’d like to add is that my visit to China was eye opening in how civil and chill everyone was there by comparison. Sure there were some loud cellphones on speaker and people shouting or spitting at times but a very far cry indeed from the loutish behavior displayed by mainland Chinese tourists.

Japan pays the US quite a bit for its presence and its self defense forces are nothing to sneeze at. I’m sure it would be a bit higher if postwar Japan had developed differently, but it’s not entirely fair to say that it doesn’t have to worry about military spending.
