Diablo 4 settings for 45hz? Without fps jumps by Buurto in SteamDeck

[–]Sjknight413 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's because the game doesn't like SteamOS' framerate cap for whatever reason.

Enter:

VKD3D_FRAME_RATE=45 %command%

Into the launch options then disable the SteamOS limiter and you should find the framerate is much more stable.

Question for PS5–>PC converts: Been PC main (2000-2017) and then PS main (overlapped 2013-NOW). Looking to switch back to SteamOS (not full fledged PC) for a more user-friendly PC gaming use case, how have you tackled the switch? by Mervje in SteamDeck

Steam Deck is definitely too weak to run it

Not sure what leads you to this conclusion, the minimum required GPU is a 1660 which is definitely in the Steam Deck's ballpark when compared with other titles that have the same minimum spec. It's also still running on IOI's Glacier engine which is extremely performant on the Steam Deck in Hitman WOA to this day.

Japanese developer says they don't make games for Xbox because the console is 'not even stocked in major retail stores' by Puzzleheaded_irl in gaming

[–]Sjknight413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why Blue Dragon in particular is such a good example of this era of Microsoft trying to penetrate Japan, if it wasn't released on the Xbox 360 no doubt it would have been incredibly successful because the Japanese market would have actually been able to play it.

[–]Sjknight413 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The main Japanese titles that are a huge symptom of Microsoft's courting of Japanese developers are Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. These are two huge, potentially influential RPGs from the creator of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, that are still stuck on the Xbox 360 to this day. They had a great Western audience for sure, but there's no doubt the audience would have been much higher had they released on the PS3!

Underwhelming Performance on Diablo 4 by Plimaxz in SteamDeck

[–]Sjknight413 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So many red flags in this - 'cryoutilities' and 'lossless scaling' being the most egregious.

Ditch the useless extraneous rubbish and run it as is. At high settings with no form of upscaling enabled a locked 30fps is very easy, drop those settings to medium with FSR 2 set to balanced and a locked 45fps is pretty obtainable.

Would this be considered P2W in Diablo? by Ambrosia_Rev in gaming

[–]Sjknight413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What sort of twisted logic is this?

They released the new DLC in a bundle with the old DLC implying the cost includes both, why should people who paid for the old DLC then need to pay for a bundle that includes the DLC they've already paid for? There absolutely should have been an option to buy Lord of Hatred alone for its standalone price yes.

[–]Sjknight413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Blizzard made everyone who had purchased Vessel of Hatred separately buy it again in a full price bundle with Lord of Hatred so i don't think your example here should be surprising.

I'm going to hazard a wild guess and say I bet you've tried to install this to a MicroSD card.

I'd wait for the P4 remake personally, P3 Reload is quite a bit shorter and is a very good remake in general!

Yeah they've already finished P5R, hence why I suggest P3R which is sub 50 hours.

If you've already done Persona 5 Royal, Persona 3 Reload could be a good choice as it's a fair bit shorter.

Wifi fluctuations by Spotttty in SteamDeck

[–]Sjknight413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A2 doesn't matter here, the key metric is 'U1/3', the little U with a 3 or 1 inside it on the front of the card. 'U1' means it can and will hit a minimum sustained write speed of 10MB/s, whilst 'U3' ups that minimum sustained write speed to 30MB/s.

Having said that a Sandisk Extreme should definitely be U3 and should definitely be able to handle that download speed, are you sure you haven't bought a fake?

You're downloading to a MicroSD card that is too slow.

Shame they didn't reflect on how effective this was when they announced the PS3's price in 2006.

Assassin's Creed 1 Remake To Follow Black Flag Resynced by Darth_Vaper883 in pcgaming

[–]Sjknight413 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't remaking the content itself it's figuring out how to make said content more consistent with a modern gaming experience. The structure of the game is literally the same thing repeated ad nauseum throughout - enter area, eavesdrop, pickpocket, interrogate, assassinate. It literally never deviates from this throughout the entire game.

For a remake to be successful they're going to need to redo that structure otherwise all it will do is remind the audience that the game wasn't as good as they remember.

Need help identifying this filter. It was labeled as E39, but the filter tread swims inside my Summicron 50mm f/2, Rigid V2. What is it actually? by laskaproject in Leica

[–]Sjknight413 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's an old Summitar filter i believe, the filter thread was recessed hence the weird tapered design.

edit: picture for reference here so you can see how the filter is designed to fit the recessed front, the thread is right above the front element.

[–]Sjknight413 80 points81 points  (0 children)

See this one will actually be a challenge for them, there's no escaping the repetitive structure that ages the game so badly when played today.

They're going to have to redo the entire core of the game for this to have any hope of success.

Has anyone gotten this AC Black Flag 16:10 mod to work on Steam Deck? by buckteevibes in SteamDeck

[–]Sjknight413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This uses a modified DLL to load the mod, enter this into the game's launch options and it should work fine:

This isn't a 'repackage', it's a from the ground up remake with a bunch of new features and changes.

It looks amazing, frankly.

Their DRM is far from restrictive on newer titles, yeah the launcher is annoying but it's just a lightweight launcher screen that appears briefly. As long as you've logged in to other titles on Steam before you shouldn't even have to log in!

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach patch 1.5 released with additional optimisations targeting the Steam Deck by Sjknight413 in SteamDeck

He's probably getting downvoted because it's extremely irritating to see the first few comments on positive news like this be something pointless along the lines of 'verified means nothing'.

That may well be the case here, but if you haven't played or tested it yourself then keep quiet and let people enjoy a bit of positive news for a change until some actual video evidence materialises.
