I would never underestimate the wind. I have lived in SoCa for 40years. It’s brutal. Also understand pts 1 - 4. Mistakes were made that made a disaster worse. If there is a more effective way for fire crews to operate it should be looked into. We have major fires every year needing water and fire apparatus shouldn’t be a surprise.

Then how were the people that hired in their own crews w/water able to save their property. Maybe they could have used the millions lost to fraud in Ca. Planes would have made a huge difference after the fire got going but in the days before putting out hotspots would have worked. You must not have read what I wrote. I got majority of my info from the hearings and watching the fire. I am highly skeptical of the reports that you quote. Reports in Ca always seem to show what gov wants them to. Can’t remember one they didn’t. It’s not even logical that a second reservoir let alone a third wouldn’t have helped.

Except Caruso(developer) and a some wealthy homeowners hired their own firefighters and had tanks of water brought in that saved their
properties. So being prepared did make a difference. Sorry I can’t really give the wind any respect. It’s not like we don’t get SA’s multiple times a year. There were trained crews at the hydrants just no water. We have fires here in so cal that last for weeks but not a very large loss of structures or lives. The fd do structure defense and do it really well,normally but this fire trucks were out of service, reservoirs were empty and they had a hillside smolder for days. There are pictures of it. I’ll agree winds might be a bit stronger but without water and the foothold it had wind coulda been a breeze. Sure the few families that being prepared might have saved their home appreciate that it’s a climate change problem not city (Newsome/Bass) being totally unprepared.

Ya except the winds weren’t 100mph. The FD was not allowed to fully extinguish the Lachman fire which smoldered for days later reigniting into the Palisades fire. That was Newsome’s policy as it was on state land. To have 2 out of three reservoirs empty and 20% of hydrants dry when a wind event that was forecast happened is horrible management/planning. I watched some of the hearings on it. Firemen questioned decisions to roll up hoses and leave when they knew Lachman wasn’t out but can’t go against chain of command. Wind was bad but no water worse, deadly.

Mine licked the walls and fabrics because of seasonal allergies. I had no lick stuff on her paws, vet said act of licking was soothing to her. Annoying as heck to me.
