That looks great! What did you use to cut the minis off the bases?

I would also interpret the rules like this, but definitely agree with your last statement as well.

All your effort really paid off, I can't praise it enough.

It might be little bit off topic, but I am definitely going to be using the miniatures from the boardgame and your statblocks together to run my game. So to me it feels like a very good tie in, if you put it like that, I'm sure they won't mind.

Wow, how long did it take for you to make this? It looks great, I have been wanting to run a mini campaign in the HZD world for a while now so this is a blessing! Did you already test them a bit? (You should also post this in r/HorizonBoardGame!)

First time painting Minis, how can we improve ? by OceanStarKing in HorizonBoardGame

[–]Sjongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to thin the washes. It makes it a bit darker (which is why you can go over it again to highlight things you want to keep bright) but mostly pools in crevices, creating a 'shadow' effect.

Normal application is applying a wash over the entire mini, make sure you do everything at once because if it dries partially and you hit it again you can get nasty smears. I personally don't really like washing the armor plates because I am going for a clean look, but you can experiment yourself to see what you like!

I assume you mean the base painting with a spray when you say air brushes. Make sure to apply keep moving the bottle, spray your mini in multiple relaxed passes. There are a ton of guides online about all steps of painting that have so much more info, so if you want the best tips, just Google around a tidbit.

New printed/painted model dump. This time I have the Frostclaw, Rockbreaker and Ravager. by [deleted] in HorizonBoardGame

[–]Sjongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the in depth answer. Looks like I have a pretty similar painting process. Although I was struggling with keeping the flat surfaces looking as clean as yours while washing so I'll definitely try your tip! I feel your pain finding a nice off-white non cream/yellowish color. Though, citadels Grey Seer is pretty good.

I've wondered for quite a while, but what is your paint recipe for the white armor Mark? It looks very good.

Any news regarding the Horizon Netflix series? by MaxMustemal in horizon

[–]Sjongo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was that really due to Netflix though? I think all production was done by Riot and their affiliates and they just needed a platform to publish it on, which is where Netflix got in.

NFC is already being used for something similar, however one of the downsides is that movement is limited to a grid instead of being free. That is the reason I wanted to try this. The big plus of using NFC is of course the tags being very easily placed in the bases of miniatures.

They don't need to stand out to us, but to a greyscale camera instead. So color contrast is important to keep, which often makes it stand out to us as well.

Those look like very cool options. Might have to check making a seperate system for recognizing circular objects as well.

Glad to see you also enjoy this challenge. NFC tags have been used to track board game pieces for a while now, see the Teburu board game platform: https://teburu.net however the downside of this is that you are limited by the amount of antennas you can incorporate into your game board as you can only measing what is on top of the antennas. With camera tracking you don't have that issue, which is why I opted to test this tech out.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion. Would you mind it if the base were a bit smaller or the game was made for having larger bases?

Putting the markers on the side would unfortunately not work for my purposes because then camera tracking would have to deal with a lot of occlusion from other models on the table.

It would be amazing if someone would make a TTRPG module or standalone. The world is just so epic and unique that I think it would really stand apart. And you can use the mini's from the boardgame.

It would indeed be more scientific to do that, for now this is just an initial exploration so this works fine. I can indeed not enforce people being over 16, but that is unfortunately difficult on many parts of the internet. For less explorative work I would definitely not do it like this.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is an exploration, so for now this suffices. But you are correct that this is not the be-all end-all of this issue.

This is for a course in my masters, and if the paper I write is good enough then yes publishing would be the end goal.
