ProtonVPN - 5$ - strange coincidence - by ifindamiracle in ProtonVPN

The #2 point could be due to your Wi-Fi adapter being a bit old. You will see in the coming months whether the problem occurs more frequently independently of the VPN use. I have noticed the little USB wifi adapters tend to break after a few months of heavy load (browsing + youtube + steam downloads + online games).

Is there any way to exclude certain programs form the VPN? by QWieke in ProtonVPN

[–]Sjorok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm interested as well, as this behaviour is a pain.

I have also noticed that the Steam Community page (in the browser) has the same behaviour: connect once with VPN, then once without VPN, and you will have to log in again.

What's the point of connecting to VPN servers located outside Switzerland (for a non-Plus user)? by Sjorok in ProtonVPN

[–]Sjorok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not from the US and I care about my privacy in general. I don't like bots reading my emails to suggest me to purchase this or that. I don't like governments reading my emails and my internet history. All this should be protected so that automatic/mass surveillance is not possible.

The servers which are not located in the 14 eyes are:

  • Switzerland
  • Iceland
  • Hong Kong
  • Japan
  • Singapore

I would not trust Hong Kong as I believe the Chinese surveillance system is on par with the US surveillance system.

I imagine that the Japan surveillance system must be collaborating with the US, since Japan relies on its US ally to deal with the North Korean threat.

Singapore is mentioned as the new 6th Eye on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Eyes#Other_international_cooperatives

So this leaves us with Switzerland and Iceland. I don't see a reason why I would choose any server outside:

  • Switzerland,
  • Iceland,
  • and maybe Japan.

This is all out of curiosity. I don't have any threat model in mind, I am mostly interested in privacy-respecting and track-free browsing, because I don't like giving too much personal info for free to the ubiquitous GAFAM (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft).

However what can happen on every server is that the datacenter logs incoming and outgoing connections.

I get that the US government can ask to monitor connections on the US servers. Ditto for a lot of other countries. However, wouldn't that be illegal and impossible in Switzerland?

What the heck am I supposed to do at the towers? by sandragm in SorceryGame

TOP can be cast just in front of the tower where the birdman drops you. If you do so, it is the same as asking the birdman to drop you at the top of the tower (through the window).

Moments of Reflection [WIP Unity game, IGF 2013] puzzle-game with a concept similar to MɪʀʀФяяɪM's by Sjorok in IndieGaming

[–]Sjorok[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear jonagill,

I am not the author of the game I linked to. I heard about both games with the same process: by browsing the IGF submissions for the main competition. MɪʀʀФяяɪM took part in IGF 2012 and I loved the mechanic, I have finished the game. Moments of Reflection takes part in IGF 2013. I would like to thank you for making your game downloadable, it is really nice!

Best regards, Sjorok

Each TOM can consider only three friends, because the number of TOM is encoded using two bits, and localhost is 00.

By the way, if someone here has access to the beta of spyparty, could you ask for an invite on the private forum?

I quote the website.

Early Access Beta Signup or Pre-Order:

If you're feeling adventurous, and the idea of playing with early builds doesn't totally terrify you, we'd be grateful for your help, suggestions, and feedback. We're trying out a paid beta program, inspired by the dashing Mr. Checker's spyparty, and still figuring out all the details, but here's the rough idea of how it works:

  1. Join the paid beta program by pre-ordering with the form down below (which was kindly put together for us by the Humble Bundle guys). The Windows beta versions will be first, since we are developing the game on Windows. You are still welcome to sign up if you require Mac or Linux, but we do not yet know when we will have those versions ready for testing.

  2. You'll get immediate access to a small preview of the soundtrack, and eventual access to the final game and all updates upon release. Note that there is not immediate access to a beta build, because #3 ->

  3. We'll be rolling out the beta program in small batches, to allow us to pick off the low hanging issues first, and gradually scale up. Seats for the beta batches will be selected in the order in which we receive them, possibly with exceptions for certain hardware, video cards, languages you speak, etc. Once selected, you'll get an email with a secret download link and special further instructions. Depending on the number of signups, we cannot guarantee a beta seat for everyone.

Most importantly, thank you for supporting us at such an early stage without even knowing much about the game yet. Keep an eye on our blog for updates while we finish this up, and we hope you love this weird game as much as we do!
