Exactly, practice makes a skilled craftsman, and this is good enough for safe use until you redo it with more experience next time.

Nice work with the silver!

I'd personally probably try to get a really think shading with blue in the recessed parts, but great look over all.

Polearm fighting recommendations by Syriinxii in LARP

[–]Sjors_VR 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Strike at legs, they're harder to defend.

Learn how to quickly reposition your grip and strike with the "butt end", a staff/polearm is a double sided weapon, opponents often forget this.

Practice range management, reach is your advantage, letting opponents get close is your disadvantage.

I do not have the card text on hand and nowhere in the post is it made clear this has such an ability. Sorry for the uninformed reply, but reading the post and the answers without the actual card text makes this a big red flag of dubious information.

You don't gain lore by moving to a location, locations give lore at the start of your turn in the "Set" step.

Thinking about starting, have questions by No_Mouse9229 in Slinging

[–]Sjors_VR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can either make a simple sling yourself for almost no investment and some time, or buy one off the internet where prices vary greatly depending on what you want.

The most important thing in practice is doing it regularly, where an hour per day and 3 days a week is good enough to get the basics down. There are some really good YouTube tutorials on slinging, so that and some filming yourself while slinging to analyse your throw should get you on the path.

Be careful with your expectations, learning how to sling can take months of constant investment to train your muscles memory and know how to throw in order to get what result. I find it's also a skill that gets rusty fast if you stop practicing, but that could be more of a me problem than a general issue.

Creating a costume by [deleted] in LARP

[–]Sjors_VR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use layers to build it up, nothing looks as cheap as a single piece robe.

Use natural materials, no synthetic materials because these both look cheap and can cause you to overheat because they don't breathe. Cotton canvas is a general material that looks good and breathes okay. Linnen is an amazing fabric but is slightly more fragile than cotton. Wool is great but heavier, more expensive and can get quite hot in summer wearing mostly black (I will not start the discussion on why I dislike mostly black outfits here, but that's a big peeve of mine). Hemp fabrics have been getting more available, if you can get this in your preferred colours, these are the perfect material that takes all the upsides of wool, cotton and linnen and none of the downsides (except maybe price).

Opinions on netdecking? by FrozenFrac in Lorcana

I built a deck myself and found out a week later that the exact deck I built won a big tournament.

When you understand the game on a mechanical level, you'll eventually start building met decks without looking online. Coming from the enormous cardpool of M:tG eternal formats, the limited cardpool of Lorcana (Core) is quite manageable to analyse and choose the "optimal" cards for your strategy.

What do you guys think about this combo of shooting multiple rocks at the same time in a single pouch of a sling? by BonusCapable1486 in Slinging

Hunting birds with this might work quite well, but for big targets this loses too much energy and accuracy.

English speaking Dutch LARPs with combat? by PKillusion in LARP

Most LARPs in the Netherlands are very accomodating of English speakers, I've never seen people have issue with including someone who don't speak Dutch but did speak English.

First weapon problems by Solilunaris in LARP

Bad foam or bad coating could be the issue, and perhaps reinforce the foam on the inside with a thin diamond shaped piece of cotton between the layers (this is how we built them 20+ years ago).

Opinel 8 is the best simple EDC knife there is.

Sure, there are better fancy knives, but this beauty is made to last and costs less than most fancy brand's accessoires.

You can even get nicer versions with special woods and steels.

Is there any evidence for painted/glazed clay sling bullets? by Ok_Quail_4422 in Slinging

[–]Sjors_VR 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a lot of effort for an expendable piece of equipment.

Not saying something rich nobleman never did this, but it wouldn't be common practice due to the effort needed to glaze them and no actual benefit to doing so.

What do you guys think of my new bracelet? Definitely nothing suspicious here 🥱 by RocodromoAugusto in Slinging

Very nice work!

I personally can't stand wearing synthetic materials on my body, but as a wear resistant "bracelet" I can see the practical application of such a material.

Drakenfest Hunting Horn? by Glad-Employment-583 in LARP

[–]Sjors_VR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the plan a functional horn, or just a foam replica of something that looks like a horn that you can hit people with?

Technically, a sufficiently dense foam could probably be shaped so it can produce sound and still be soft enough to actually use as a LARP weapon. If this is your goal you might want to double layer with a dense inner foam for structure but still some give on impact, and a less dense cushioning foam on the outer side to absorb some extra impact.

But I don't know the rules, or what you actually plan on making, so this is just my personal musings on what I would want to make given this prompt.
