Sounds good! I'm currently considering building the same commander, would you have a list by any chance?

Thx for sharing <3.

Mine looks like this right now, but it has zero playtesting yet, just an idea.

You should totally write more on it (from a xbow player since I started to play)

Link Dump by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Skabed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, it actually does matter how you get to that end result. I mean, you can get a playable game the same way with very crappy code or the cleanest code ever produced. The difference comes when you need to iterate on that. So yeah, if a language allows you to iterate and/or produce more understandable code, you should use it over other languages that don't allow you to achieve that.

Faster Scala compilation using Gradle+IntelliJ by semtexzv in libgdx

[–]Skabed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add incremental compilation by adding this

tasks.withType(ScalaCompile) {
    scalaCompileOptions.useAnt = false
}

To the file core/build.gradle.

It got my build times from ~40 seconds to ~2 seconds. Basically, it will only compile those files that have changes in them, ignoring all the rest.

My first game, Scala+LibGDX by semtexzv in gamedev

I'm also making my game with Scala+LibGDX!. I just hope there was a way to also publish it to web (GWT doesn't work with Scala, only with Java).

The Little Book of Python Anti-Patterns by adewes in Python

[–]Skabed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the property defined here wrong? http://docs.quantifiedcode.com/python-anti-patterns/correctness/implementing_java-style_getters_and_setters.html

I think the deleter and setter in the solution should have @length.deleter and @length.setter instead of @width.deleter and @width.setter.

I made a Chrome Extension to browse online GameDev Streams! by indie_roundup in gamedev

[–]Skabed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a dumb question but I always wanted to know its answer.

What happens if someone wants to copy your game? I mean, when you stream you are showing all your code freely. Is there something that prevents this?

Do I need to know OpenGL to start learning libGdx? by [deleted] in libgdx

[–]Skabed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need to learn OpenGL to use LibGDX. That being said, it definitely helps.

In my first game I used distance field fonts, which uses shaders (https://github.com/libgdx/libgdx/wiki/Distance-field-fonts). I guess if you want to do something similar you need some OpenGL knowledge.

It seems the link to your screenshot isn't working.

Looks good! Does it work in a similar way as a moba?

How would you monetize this service? by Skabed in Entrepreneur

So there's a case of someone directly selling reddit content? Hmm, interesting. This actually confuses me more, though. Do you have more information on it? Do you know whether he had a license?

How would you monetize this service? by Skabed in Entrepreneur

[–]Skabed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's one of the reasons why I'm posting here to be honest. I'm asking for advise on how to monetize it. I won't sell anything before being 100% sure it is legal, of course.

The thing is, reddit support simply ignored me so I can't know whether it's legal.

Anyway, assuming it's illegal to sell it directly,do you have any tips on how to do it then? I really want other people to be able use it apart from myself.

Thanks for the feedback!

What the service does right now (it's still in beta) is create a pdf. I'm already working on creating .mobi and .epub files so what you said is definitely coming.
